Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

THat seems kind of early to me in mid-may. We still have some frost at night towards the end of May here near Madison. I know that I dont put my tender plants out until the first week of June. I suppose if you have a 250W light in the sheltered end you might be OK. Be careful of fire though! Terri O

I must have chickens on the brain! Last night I dreamed that my 4 broodies all hatched 15 chicks each and Hens and Roos turned up with 40(!) chicks she was incubating for me. Then I put them all in my living room in a kiddie pool! I had chicken dust EVERYWHERE!!! Maybe I had everyone's chicks here...it was crazy!

Now if I could just sell some EGGS! I keep putting an ad on Craig's list and it keeps getting flagged for removal. Anybody have this problem? I cant see how my ad is any different than all the other ones on there! Ticks me off--

Well, I think I am going to make some popcorn! The kids went to town to get a movie so...gotta have popcorn!

Terri, I've had a couple chicken dreams lately too. The one I remember was being on a pontoon in my hometown after a flood and seeing an orange rooster swimming (can chickens swim???) Well I just had to save him so scooped him up, to the dismay of the other people on the boat, but the rooster loved me for saving him and we became buds. Very very odd. Will this yet worse when I actually have chickens?

amyable, yes chickens can swim. Not for long periods, but just enough to swim to save themselves.

I have seen them in a video.

And I've been having those dreams too. Mine is about the eggs hatching and one were I had to bring the eggs into our bed to keep them warm because broody hen gave up.

That one was before the bator was bought.

The first video is the one I saw before. The second is a new one.

I wouldn't toss my chicken that way.

with the meat chicks, it will depend on what you put them in, building or ?. I had 16 in a round calf hutch in mid may I had them in the house only long enough to make sure they where eating, the hutch was in the sun during the day and a door at night to keep the heat in plus I had a smaller box in side so they could go in at night to keep warm, does that help. if you put a heat lamp in you could put them in earlier

I will be putting them in a pvc tractor with a tarp covering 1 end and another covering the other side at night. I do have a light for some heat at night. you think they can go outside mid May at 2 weeks? The first 2 weeks there out on the sun porch. So smell isn't bad.

I'm near Appleton

even with the heat lamp you will need a 4 sided and floored, roofed 'box' for them to go into to stay out of the wind and cold draft, a smaller space will use body heat to keep them warm too

You will see many wonderous things on your journey. You will see a cow on a barn roof, you will see an orange rooster in a pontoon boat....." O Brother Where Art Thou". Only Clooney movie I like.

Amy Yup! There's a guy at work that's almost as warped as I am and I'll walk past him and he'll say something like "Well I'll only be 82". Then it's on. Just a line from so many movies. My instant response to that might be "I'm small but I'm old". Dill from To Kill a Mockingbird. My all time hands down favorite! We have a lot of fun with it. I'll be on one end of the shop and I'll hear him whistling "Always Look on the Bright side of Life" from Life of Brian, Monty Python. Then he'll stop midway and I have to finish it then it's a duet. When you look at it. Lifes a piece of sh*t. Always look on the bright side of life. See what you started! Always look on the bright side of life!
