Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

It sure has been nice-got some cleaning of rabbit cages and chicks done yesterday. Moved the 2 rabbit hutches outdoors for the warm months. Due to a field trip with my DD on tuesday to the UW-Madison CALS kids day-we have to stay away from our chickens until after Tuesday. I guess it's part of the UW's policy so DH and the older DS have to do those chores.

BTW what does it take to ship day old chicks or even older birds as far as what paper work is required if coming from a different state? I read over the sticky in the buy-sell aution forum but it was clear as mud to me. Thanks

I have been trying to enjoy my weekend off as much as possible. Had my soaping class yesterday and it really went well. The soap turned out beautifully and smells soooooooooo good! I can't wait until I have my own place and I can go into mass production!!!!!

Helping a friend move today, I am hoping it does not take too long but moving the junk of 5 kids I think will take some time.....

Enjoy the rest of the day people!

What a beautiful day it is!

I was able to let the 5-day-old ducklings outside for about an hour while I was having lunch - the neighbor's 11-year-old was having a birthday party and the yard was quickly filled with 10 and 11-year-old girls who wanted to pet the duckies.
So, I was telling them all about the ducks, and how they're rare breeds, and after a good 10 minutes or so one of the little girls suddenly goes, "What!? These are DUCKS? I thought they were chickens!"

I hope everyone else is enjoying the day!

WOW BBCB THAT SUCKS! I've been in that boat many times with layoffs and plant closings. The only good thing about it is all the extentions on the unemp. Well and then there's being able to play with chickens all day. Hope you get some time off before starting a new job. The day I recieve the Prine a check will be in the mail. You don't have to worry about that. Well as much as I hate to admit it Laura got the nickle and I got skunked. She caught the first and only fish, a nice fat perch. Could have used about a dozen of them. I told her I needed to practice and added a wicked laugh. Everything wintered well up north. Did have a freak out moment. The pilot on the furnace lit but wouldn't fire the burner. Went to the our favorite watering hole for supper came back and it fired, must have been some frozen condensation in the valve and the pilot thawed it. Even if we didn't catch any fish "speaking for myself" we had a great time! We always do. I already have it planned that tomorrow morning I'm going to tell L. Well I'm going to put it on! She'll say put what on? The last uniform I'll ever wear at work. MIB. Man In Backyard.

I hear you Dr. H...too bad that there will be no unemployment, as I got wooed away from my last job to this one only 4 months ago, with big promises, only to come in and find out that they couldn't make payroll and had to cut salespeople. This for a job that 32 hours per week but by spring, so they said, it will be fulltime and I'll make twice what I did at the last job. So they said. Keep trucking is what I say. John Prine got put in the mail last night, so he'll see you soon, but no money I told you, man you are a terrible listener. I don't need it not yet and besides a little more John Prine in the world can only help.

Sorry about the fishing but getting skunked means you're closer to catching a fish, eventually. Good to have you back. You want a good looking little rooster for your posse?

BBCB it really does suck losing a job and not having unemployment to help out. My brother and I have our buisness doing poured basement walls and foundations and in the last few years we are only really only putting in 80 hours of work a month. We did start doing landscape curbing three years ago as a filler to fill out a week of work in the summer for our guys that work with us. I know what it is like to be broke. Hope things turn around for you. Mike

Ha! True nuff...me too, brother, me too.

Hey it looks like out of the 22 chicks we have, at least three and more like five are roosters. We can keep one, but that's it. We're going to have an Australorp, probably both our RIRs, the Ameraucauna (which we will probably keep), and maybe a SLW. If anyone wants one for free, or knows of anyone who wants one, please let me know. I'll make the drive to re-home the roos, but if no one wants them, then I have to cull.

Terri O, aka St. Francine, are you out there? What about Becky???

Evening All.... Thanks for all the coop tips from everyone.

Congrats on your paycheck from the guy with the dog fordmommy. Sometimes it never seems to show up. Glad you got payed for your losses.

BBCB good to hear the birds are moving into their home. It does make life with chickens more fun for you and them!

Welcome back Dr H glad to hear you had a good time up North. The fish will be bigger next trip.

Sure was a dandy day outside today.
