Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Good morning! It rained for a lot of the night here--we sure needed it-maybe my stuff will start coming up now! Now it is cloudy but not raining...maybe get something done outside today. We are going into Milwaukee later this after noon for a surprise dinner for my parents' 50th anniversary. We are going to some steak joint that serves like 9 kinds and you can have as much as you want...but it is supposed to be "upscale" according to my brother. I will report tomorrow.
Well it is raining outside now...I had to wear my hat to show off my new baby goat to the folks from Marshall that came over. They are the ones with the Phoenix roo. I am going to their place to pick him ho next weekend. It iwll be fun to visit there for a change...this is getting to be an every weekend thing!

Tomorrow I am going to Rockford to get the new tortoise. His name is Manny. I hope my Stuart likes him! So what are you guys looking for at the swap today? I think I cant go to any more of them for fear I will bring home more stuff! I have geese on eggs (lots) and the ducks are probably hiding somewhere with eggs too. I only know where one is and she has a bunch and usually hatches all she sits on. (she's a good one!) I must have 10 geese on nests...I have only 3 little ones hatched so far though...time will tell.
Stay warm and dry everyone! I will try to get s pic of the 2 cutest chicks that hatched yesterday...one big and one little! Terri O

I don't mind the rain, it's been so dry around here, good to get a couple of soaker days in. Next week when the sun shines everything will be greener and more colorful. Hopefully warmer, too. My goal this week is to get the run to the pen setup and get those birds outside for some fresh air.

Terri O you've got a real menagerie going on there, with a phoenix and another tortoise on the way!

I hope everyone stayed relatively dry and warm at the swap. Me, I'm sitting at my part time job watching the rain fall and scheming up ideas on how to get this run done as cheaply as possible!
Have fun!

Well it was wet and chilly at the swap I'll let fm tell her side. She is so MEAN! Made both Laura and I hold some chicks. MEAN I tell ya! I was looking for some SLW but none to be found. Going to incubate some eggs and see what happens. Having second thoughts about it. Turning them 3 times a day would mean having to be here for 21 days. No up north time. Don't want to burden my neighbor to come over 3 times a day. Looked at McMurray day olds for $2.72. The neighbor would stop in once a day no problem. Have to think on it. Lazy day, minimal effort so far. Garden seeds are sorted and ready to put in. Maybe tomorrow. Raining off and on wish it was a steady rain.

I'm going to have a few extra Easter Egger pullet chicks from my order from Meyer Hatchery. Had to order a few more than my coop capacity in order to hit the price break! Arriving around May 12 or so. If anyone is looking for 5 or 6 Easter Egger chicks, let me know. I'll sell them for what I invested in them ($3 each including shipping). I'm in Bailey's Harbor. email me jaylott01 - at - gmail.com thanks!

I AM mean! I DID make them hold babies! It was kinda funny watching L though. The baby flaps it's wings a little and she freaks out! Good thing she held on!

Dr Ha Ha, It would be cheaper for you to just go buy a egg turner from Fleet Farm. If you concider in the chicks from the hatchery AND shipping and handling....it's cheaper. AND you already have the eggs. I'm just saying....

I did good today. I went with 2 pullets and 10 babies and by 7:45am I had sold out!

I paid the price with the rain though. We were sopping wet. Even with the umbrellas and poncho and the hatch of my Expedition.

I didn't come home empty handed though. I ended up buying 2 Norwegian Jærhøn week olds and 1 Salmon Favorolle week old. All sexed females!

Some of you may remember MY favorite was killed by the dog and BCC was able to tell me her breed. That's the Norwegian Jærhøns. And I got the Salmon Fav. girl for the male I got.

And then I stopped at Menards and bought some more Rose Bushes. They are on sale with a mail in rebate. It makes them $1.99 a bush. Limit 6.

I am glad for the rain though. We sure need it. I've been watering the lawn and flower beds, it's been so dry here.

Have a good one every one!

See now Dr. H, I was thinking craigslist for a turner.....

Since I am going to be hatching these duck eggs along with some Mallards, I am thinking of doing up a new incubator. I have a styrafoam cooler/chest from work that is about the size of the biggest Colman cooler you can get. My thoughts were to rip apart the old LG bator and put the guts into the "new" bator.....

Any thoughts or suggestions on this?

babylady4-that might work, check out the home made incubator section found in the homemade coop section. One thing we did was line the bottom of the incubator with foil for ease of clean up after each hatch.

Dr H-how many eggs are you thinking to hatch-we are planning to run another hatch at the end of this month with about a dozen or so eggs and ours can hold 18 eggs total. If you're interested and can get them to us we can put them in with ours. Let us know, it's fun to watch bator TV and we're always around.

Chilly and wet today-we decided to go and work on another one of the rental units we needed to paint for mid-May. Finished painting it so now just some cleaning left!
