Closed my eyes for an hour, didn't sleep. A couple of cups of java to keep awake till a decient bed time hour. I want to put in 8 eggs, would like to end up with 4-6 poults. Found that TSC has the turner for the LG I've borrowed. $42!!!! Don't know if I want to spend the ching on a borrowed unit. Thinking now of talking to the guy down the road to see if he has a roo for his SLW's. Think he said he had half a doz. birds. Thanks for the offer H&R, that was nice of you. And BL4 will take a look maybe someone is looking to unload one. Thanks to you too! Ya L is still coming along. Think if I get some babies she'll make some more headway. She loved holding the girls when they were little. The kids used to come running when just I got home now they come when she does but she spoils them with treats.

Fordmommy, your Norwegian Jausfbloominleiderhausin sound very intriguing... or atleast a good opportunity to amuse oneself when trying to pronounce or type their name. LOL. Do you have a pic of what they look like?

All is well here. Cleaning out the top barn. I'm currently hiding in the house.

It's cold and wet out there. Murry is doing great and is being a really good mom. She hatched out 5 chicks and already they are getting big. Well I better get back out there. Have a good night everyone!

Fordmommy, I want some Norwegian Jaerhons too!! They seem like a neat little breed. And Gray Ghost, I'm very very tempted. My first ever chicks are due to arrive from Sandhill May 19

The timing might be just right, huh? I do want some EE's or true Ameraucanas, but I know Sandhill is sold out. I jsut ordered the assorted mix of 25. Will be very curious to see what I get. Better stay away from these swaps, I have no self control!

Got my seeds from Sandhill this year too. Bigz, I'm glad I went with them, good prices and selection and amounts of seed. Now to see if my seed-starting is up to par. It better be, I told the parents, inlaws, and neighbors I'd share. Uh-oh. Got lots of tomatoes and peppers, plus some huckleberries and husk cherries in cups, now crossing the fingers. Planted lettuce, kale, carrots, spinach, and chard on Tues. Hope to see some sprouting after this rain. Happy planting, DrH. The garden is never big enough, 'eh?! Mine is ~ 30x70, and I need more ground

One big man and one little man to feed, plus one soon. And grocery produce can be such a drag. All the tomatoes are from Mexico, sheesh.

Becky you cant have the good DrH! I do believe that I have already laid claim! And your hubby is way too young to retire; mine, on the other hand, is already acting the part of the "old man"

Wow a 70x30 garden for 3 people? That is a bunch of garden! I made mine smaller a few years back and made it bigger again last year...cant decide if I want the work or the produce. It is like the story of the hen making bread all over again here though. They seem to think that gardening is MY work and eating it all up is THEIR work! I tell ya, as soon as kids get big enough to help, they wont! If I ever get any grandkids I am going to work on them...they say that stuff skips a generation...sure has been true in my fam so far.

My dh is trying to find a good place for me to meet the tortoise lady. He says you cant get off of 20 to a gas station...what do I know of that area? Guess it's a good thing I asked hey? Well, I cant remember all the stuff I was going to type...Oh yeah BBCB I think I know just what you are trying to build. I did a thing like that for my cats to get to an outdoor enclosure at my other house. what I ended up using was one of those covered coily things kids crawl though! It worked great for cats...probably not so good for chickens though. But maybe you could do something similar?

Thanks for the well-wishes for my parents. They were so surprised! It was great to see my brother from Florida and his fam too. We got a nice pic of us--I will post it but my camera is not in here right now. The restaurant was delicious! So much MEAT!!! They just kept bringing it and bringing it. My Dad was in heaven! He wouldnt even try the baked bananas or the black beans though. THe salad bar was beautiful to behold...so many colorful and different things to try--I would have liked to go back to it but they kept bringing meat...then I was just too full! It sure was good though!

Good afternoon good people! I spent a lot of time searching and researching the bator dilema. My latest thought is to build one. Saw one made from a styro cooler. Got to thinking. There's a thick walled meat shipping styro cooler upstairs in the garage also have the perfect piece of plexiglass for a window. And I know there's some light fixtures plus there's a heating element out there but don't know the heat range on it. Saw the egg turning motor is $20 but don't remember the price on the wafer thermostat. I have enough "good stuff" fabricate the egg rack. And a reostat for amperage adjustment. See I told ya I was savin all this "good stuff" for something someday. I love it when I find a use for it. Makes me feel that I dun good! We braved the wind and the rain for a trip to Fleet. Didn't get the musky or fly line but I did get a new pair of dress pants. [New jeans] and a pair of slip on wading shoes. [Dress shoes] Great for dry weather around the yard or fishin, very compfy and easy on and off! I also got the minnow trap I've always wanted. It's starting to feel like I'm retired. Oh ya. Now girls don't fight over me. L says to tell ya Too bad So sad! I'm taken. But then she said but your gonna do what ever you want anyway. You always do. And so does she. And that's what it's all about. Being happy! I'm so glad we found each other! Going to get a couple lbs of real bacon fried up and some sausage and dice some onions and grn pepper and make a bunch of breakfast burrito's and freeze them. I tend to get too busy to eat so it needs to be easy and fast. The kids are finally coming out to play. Gotta go!

What a day! And I am not even finished!!! Ripping down the kids wooden swingset to give to another family with little kids; trying the get the shower stall ripped out of the bathroom so we can get the tub framing done tomorrow; and have to get the incubator set up for the duck eggs! I can't seem to get the wiring for the thermostat/light bulb heater thing to work right and since those eggs are going to be here VERY soon I'll stick with old reliable and use the giant cooler as the Hatcher.....

So, since I have about 2 minutes I am going to grab a bite to eat! Later!!!!!

What a perfect JP afternoon! Cooking and dancing the kitchen. There wouldn't be any dancing on my part w/o the beer. THANKS BBCB! Gotta go sing and dance with the one I love! Then we'll be cookin! It's a big ol goofey world! Come on just grab her or him and give em a spin from outta no where. You'll be pleasantly surprised at the reaction.

Good evening all! We had a nice trip down to Rockford to get the tortoise. It is a "he" and is slightly bigger than my Stuart. I hope they get along after the quarantine period is over! His beak needs trimming and he looks too fat to me...gotta put him on the turtle treadmill!

Other than that he looks pretty healthy except for a bit of shell rot that I will work on this week.
I am done with riding in the car for a while now...to milwaukee yesterday and rockford today was enough! Gives me a headache and makes me sick to my stomach--I took a nap when we got home. AHHH...that was nice!

I was very sad this morning...my hen hatched 2 chicks and was out of the nest with them so I took the remaining 4 out to toss them. One was clearly rotten, 2 had arrested development and were dead and the 4th was ALIVE with about a week remaining!

I just HATE when that happens...I feel like such a murderer and I always say "why didnt you just put it under the other broodie???!"

Then I realize that that makes another problem of her hatching that one and getting off the nest because there are the rest not caught up!

It is a no win situation as far as I can see. I guess that is the only reason I would have an incubator...to save those that their Moms give up on!

Dr H you crack me up! I read your post to my DH--he said "no dancing!" Guess he hasnt had enough beer yet? Great that your "good stuff" collection will make something useful for you! I have a bunch of good stuff that I collect too...it is amazing what you can make hey?

I am trying to do the invitation for my dd18s graduation party and it is all turning to crap! I got the thing done on EVITE but when I emported my addresses I realized that I have not updated them in a long time so they are all wrong! I swear, sometimes computers just make it harder...maybe I will just settle for having the family and my dd's friends!
