Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Oh my god my eggplants are CRAZY! I have over a dozen fairytale eggplants going right now, with 2 due to be picked tomorrow! And I checked on my cukes, and they EASILY grew 4-5 inches over the night. How does that happen?!

Not much else to post. We had a yummy farm fresh chicken for dinner. Was good. Had a lot of flavor, and was ever so tender as hubberz nuked it in the crock pot all day

Fell apart!

Oh, and me and DH had a great convo over dinner:

Me: "Man, this bread box mix is a lot sweeter than my bread!"
DH: "Yeah, and it's falling apart more than your bread too!"
Me: "Yeah, it's really airy and good. But not good for sandwiches."
DH: "Hey, maybe you can make this box mix bread the way you made bread before we got the bread machine. Then it would be denser!"
Me: *GGGLLLAAAARRRREEEE*
DH: *looks back into his bowl and eats silently*

Haha! I used to try and bake bread by hand kneading, and due to carpal tunnel I was never able to knead it enough to make it elasticly. Soo, my bread tasted good, but was SUPER dense. Well now I have a machine to do the kneading for me, and I still take it out, man handle it and shove it in a loaf pan. And it turns out fantastic! IN YOUR FACE DH!

H&R, congrats to your kids on all the ribbons! Very cool.

The news just said Appleton got over 4" of rain last night

So glad we don't live in the city anymore and have to be at the mercy of storm drains. I heard the manhole covers were lifting off, yowsers. Now I just have a squishy yard and a happy garden. Terri, I've got a great heirloom pod pea, remind me to send you some seeds. It's called Mammoth Melting Sugar Pod, and boy is that true. HUGE pods, usually 4-5 inches, and nice and tender. I got mine planted in April, so my plants are almost done, and they really grew great for me this year. The vines are 5+ feet tall, and loaded with pods. Put up about 6 qt bags in the freezer, now will let the rest mature and give me seeds for next year.

Raiquee, you and me and DrH will have to form a bread club or something. I've been trying to work out a good ratio of wheat to white, have had many flops in the attempt. Now what I'd really like is a stand mixer to knead my dough...

So I stuck my new older pullets in the coop tonight...had to shove them in one by one while DH opened and shut the pop-door. (I'd had them in the run this week, and opened the coop for them to explore the last few days while keeping the rest of the flock out.) Then watched as they tried to find the way out for about 5 minutes, carrying on to beat the band. Finally they settled down in a corner, all piled up. Is this common? I'm going to let them out nice and early tomorrow, hopefully no major scuffles. How long do ya think before they realize the coop is home and integrate into the larger flock?

Good morning all! I feel as though I owe you all an apology. Have been only wrapped up in my problems and not paying attention to yours. I'm Sorry! You all know I'm very self centered to begin with. Trying to improve but it's a hard thing to break. So now more about me.

H&R glad to hear about the kids success at the fair bet their just beaming! And rightfully so. Amy our peas never amount to much so we eat the pods in salads as soon as they are and inch or two long. Will look into a different type next year but wanted to use up the seeds we had. Good luck with the white/wheat bread that's a tricky one. Raiquee it's the lightning it puts nitrogen in the ground, good for the plants! I have an old Oster kitchen center that has dough hooks for the mixer but have never tried to use it. Don't trust that new fangled thingy. Might have to some day. TO hope your feeling better after your fall. And I haven't given up hope for the return of Stuart and Monty! BL4 I'm thinking it might be a good idea to bring the emergency plan short comings up to someone of importance. Might save some lives in the future. Hope you all have a god day! Headin to the woods before it gets hotter.

Get a Kitchenaid stand mixer!!!!! It is TOTALLY worth the $$!!!!!!

I say this because the Kithenaid stand mixer my grandfather bought my grandmother still works like a champ!!!! It has fallen off the counter while operating a few times and never misses a beat.

Tossed the babies in with the bigger ducks yesterday; a few scuffles but by the end of the day they were all behaving nicely.

Off to IL today to visit the relatives and the homeland.

See yo later folks!

TO) It's good to put up a fence I think, or go and tell that farmer you get all that corn!! (if it's sweet corn that is!)

Amyable) I think thats a fine idea. "The Door Stopper Bread Club" or "Rock or Bread?"

Those peas sound WONDERFUL. I'm assuming due to the name they are like a sugar snap pea? Just bigger?

BL4) I begged and begged and finally got myself a stand mixer, but i'm indifferent about it kneading dough. I think the bread machine does a better job, but I also may have just had a too big batch in the mixer. I DO however, love it to itty bitty pieces. I can not WAIT until we can afford the meat grinder attachment (hopefully before deer season) and the pasta attachment. I can not wait to have that puppy going all the month of December for Xmas cookies!

Hens and Roos) I don't know a single thing about showing in the fair, but I think thats a lot of projects!! I'm glad she did so well and it has boosted her ego a bit

Yes Raiquee, they are basically sugar snaps, and not only bigger but the best I've ever eaten. I vote for Door Stopper Bread Club, that's great!

I've wanted a Kitchenaid stand mixer for ages. Maybe I'll have to ask for one for birthday, Christmas, Mother's day combined. My fam has an annual Christmas cookie baking weekend, and all the women bring their mixers to grandma's house and away we go

And it is a beeeeaaauuutttiiifffuuullll day, get out and enjoy it folks!

FYI...I just got off the phone with Bigzio's wife and all is well. They have been very busy with the chickens, gardening and mowing. And with the storms, had a problem with the phone box and lightening (you know they don't mix

) but it's all up and running now. But they've been so pooped, they haven't been on. So...all is well.

Oh! And Mythbusters proved that you CAN be struck by lightening through the phone.

BL4, Have a SAFE trip.

All is well here too. I was so busy yesterday. I weeded the garden, mowed the lawn, pitted cherries, picked up my kids, cleaned the dog-room carpeting...AGAIN! (sick dog) did the dishes, cooked, not to mention feeding and watering all the animals, and moved the medium birds to a temperary pen next to the big birds, in the morning, and then back to their regular pen for night. AND...cleaned the pool and then played in it.

Today I have a ton of running to do. Hopefully I get it all done. I know I will MAKE time to spend in the pool with my boys. But maybe I'll take them to the park after the library.

Hope your day is as adventure-filled as mine.

Good morning! GREAT job Erin and brothers!!!! Wont it be fun to say that you have the CHAMPION bird! Good for you, you must know how to pick 'em!

I too love my Kitchenaide! I dont use it as much as I should; but with my low client list perhaps I will get back into cooking again! I does mix up meat really well for meatloaf I must admit! Mine never had great variable speed control until I took it to the small appliance repair guy in town. He fixed it somehow and now it works like it was supposed to all along! I have a bunch of attachments too and LOVE the grater one for cheese! Never did bread in mie either....bread machine all the way for me!

I will definitely take you up on your offer of pea seeds! These were small but very tasty. I hate when they get long and curly...just dont look as good in a salad or stirfry!

My farrier called and he is going to be late...I hope not too late as I have a dentist and a vet appt this afternoon. He is not the speediest guy in the world either...talks too much!

Thanks for the well-wishes DrH. I have not given up on the torts either. I made some steps into their garden in case they wish to come home on their own. My back is bruising nicely today...I am using the liniment and IB to ease swelling and pain. I did walk this morning--slowly; but that was ok since DH was with me and he had bad knees. Man--we sure sound like old people!

OK--out to do come weeding and I need to pick a new arrangement for the table...maybe I could even clear it off?

Terri O--have a fantastic day!

That's what it is a Kitchenaid. Think I have all the attachments pain in the butt to clean by hand. Have made sausages with casings and found it was a lot faster to just make patties. The grinder works but it's pretty slow going. But for a small family it's fine. Ditto on the safe trip BL4 always try to time our trips in that direction to get through Madtown at the right time. Always like to head that way on a Friday and home on Sunday just to watch all the traffic goin the other way. Kitchenaid falling off the counter. Hmmm sounds like too many margarita's. With that many huge gardens it's understandable B&S have been busy just glad to hear their OK! Amyable and Raiquee my vote is for The Door Stopper Bread Club I'll be a member. I've already paid my dues. That's hilarious! Had to go in and chop brush before dropping that tree this AM pretty thick in there but I wanted that one because I needed to fill in the kindling row so I could add more to the regular stuff. That tree had a lot of top to it. Got the tops pretty well done and the rest of the tree drug out back for bucking and splitting. Might do that in the morning but we have to be in Westfield for a wedding right after lunch tomorrow. It's garbage day better get it out there.

Now I feel guilty because I have 2 kitchenaids...

I want the big whopper pro mixer though....

And I have the meat grinder attachment and the food slicing attachment...... I refuse to spend the 180 for the pasta roller though; apparently there are plates for extruding pasta using the meat grinder attachment. I think I'll look into getting those......

Ok, I really am leaving now. After the oldest DD get her stuff packed that is......
