Thank You Annarie! That's what I thought too. fm called me as she usually does when I step into unknown territory and said the same thing. So thanks to both of you!!!!! I'm always steppin in sumpthin. Now rjripp Welcome to the flock! You'll find many many goodhearted people here to help you become an addict. I think their called pushers on the street. If it wasn't for the joy that chickens bring into your life I'd tell you to run away as fast as you can. There are several people near you that I'm sure will chime in the next couple of days that will either be able to set you up or point you in the right direction. Come sit a spell and let your illness flourish. Just came in from workin on the boat motor same story starts but won't keep running after about a minute. Choking, half choking helps but checking the plugs it's starving out. Going to research for a gas filter or screen. While re- searching the fridge for another beverage of my choice. In other words I'm takin the afternoon off! Could put the other motor I have on it but really want to get this one going. Gotta go have things not to do! Been to the bator a few times thinking I heard something.

I think that's the duck I want. Now I need to decide how MANY I want. Or should I get a smaller group of two different ducks? ARGH. I won't be ordering them until after my birthday (Did I mention I turn 25 in less than a week? UGH!) , and until hubby can get the materials to build a cute little coop and run. I have a hovabator (me and hubby used to breed reptiles) for eggs, as I know Cayugas aren't great broodies, but they seem to be a good dual purpose. I also love the idea of Dark Camps laying green eggs though lol! I know I don't like little ducks (Sorry, calls are cute and everything but I like big fat squishy ducks!), and I'm not a fan of pekins just cause I don't really like white birds. If I get another breed, it may be scovies, but they'd have to be blue/choco pied or something. Can't be all white that's for sure. Wild scovies are gorgeous tho!

I think me and DH has decided to try them at our house first. Now, we aren't allowed to have any livestock, so we are going to place them on the side of the house. If they ask us to remove them, well we always have the sitters as a back up plan. Although we are over at the sitters a lot,, it would be more trips more often, and I'd perfer to have them on our own lot. We have more than enough room for them, it's just the stupid laws. However, the guy down the road has a hawk?!? So, what gives?

Game plan is have them, and if we are asked to remove them, fight for an "exception" or whatever, and if still not allowed, move them to sitters. At least I got a back up plan!

Well, I'm off to work on some cards. I don't know what i'm doing but I have to get my mind off ducklings for a moment!

Raiquee - Oh gosh, I can't add another breed! My family's all vegetarian, so I'm staying away from dual-purpose; we only want fancy Bantams and the small egg-types. You ought to check out some of the local poultry swaps though - you may have to drive 2 or 3 hours, but I've seen lots of duck hatching eggs for sale this year - Silver Appleyards, Cayugas, and Welsh Harlequins - for $1/egg! A much better deal than forking over $12 to the USPS for shipped eggs. Most hatcheries are winding down for the year - you're going to have a hard time finding someplace that isn't sold out already! I bought 4 Welsh Harlequin eggs in Beaver Dam earlier this year and hatched 3 ducklings.

All boys though - they ended up going to a nice pet home with a family that had just lost their 4 pet ducks of old age.

EDIT: Nevermind - it looks like Purely Poultry has Cayugas hatching through November! I've never ordered from any of the big, commercial places - goes to show what I know!

Cayugas are popular - I know someone else who chose Cayugas for her suburban home where she's not technically allowed to have ducks. They're supposed to be relatively quiet, and they lay dark gray, nearly black eggs that slowly lighten to white throughout the laying season.

We delivered all the foster kittens to the shelter this afternoon - they're getting spayed/neutered tomorrow. I can't be there because my sister's performing at the State Fair all day tomorrow.

It looks like they have another, bigger litter that'll be ready for us by early next week though!

It does seem like everyone took the day off! Well, I had a late morning. Had a rough night sleeping, and in turn my neck and side is stiff. Ugh, where did the days go of sleeping folded in half and being able to roll out of bed in the morning at a full leap!

Today is going to be a cleaning day for me. Put the midget in daycare, and i'm going to wash my floors, vaccum the rugs, do some laundry, and run a few errands so I can take the weekend off! Me and hubby are going to run to the garden store to pick up some tomato cages, as my volunteer toms in the weed garden are getting so big they are falling over! I have so many green tomatoes, I'm contemplating making a green tomato sauce

They all will ripe one day, I know it!

Annarie) I am thinking of getting them from McMurray hatchery, as they have them through november as well, and I'd perfer to get ducklings rather than mess with eggs. Hatching reptile eggs vs bird eggs are completely different! You turn reptile eggs, and you drown them.

lol. If I was buying them to breed them, I would probably get them from a smaller breeder. But since i'm using them for my own purposes (meat and eggs) I'm probably fine with hatchery birds.

Me and DH have changed our minds again, and decided to just have them at the sitters. We don't want to get fined or in trouble, and although I would love to have them at our house I don't want to risk it. We are going to decide for sure what we want after the fair. Going to look at the poultry barn and get some thoughts together. We are going to the fair tomorrow! Yeehaw!
