Well we moved our foster dog today to hopefully a less stressful foster home, took a road trip to Springfield Ill to drop her off so she could catch her ride towards MO, where she will hang out and see how things go. Stopped for lunch at a resturant called D'Arcy's Pint and tried the pizza-very good, got back later this afternoon.

After 5 years we have only 1 dog in our house, it will seem strange as our Irish Setter hasn't ever been an only dog!

Grilled a couple of chuck steaks after marinading them over night-turned out yummy! DH found the receipe on line that we tried. Made s'mores browines for dessert and will have some in a bit after they've cooled some!

Off to try the dessert!

Oh Annarie you are positively evil! The first time I read your post there werent any pics and now...OMG that Cochin is adorable! Ya know how you have a weakness for ducks? Well, I have that weakness for Roos! NO NO NO!

I started cleaning out my stalls that I had kept baby ducks in...then I went to the fairgrounds to watch th eFlyball competition...when I got home DH had finished the stalls! Yeah! Now I have a clean place to put my new Mom and puppies! That flyball sure is LOUD! I think I need to get my dogs into that...they would be exhausted! I feel so tired after watching the dogs run!

I set my trap again tonight to see if I can catch any other cats or ? I heard baby raccoons out in the corn last night...just a matter of time before they are trying to eat my chickens! Got the goat buried so it wont stink and the isle cleaned out in the barn too...man, I will be started on my chicken coop soon at this rate! (not that it doesnt need it!)

Well--I am off to bed...big day! Good night all...Terri O

Good Morning All! Sorry to hear about you goat TO! That sure seems to happen a lot. Don't know anything about em except that they have the weirdest eyes of any animal I've ever seen. BL4 I too had a joint thing going on yesterday. Both my knees felt weird kinda like they were sun burned. Then I figured it out. The feeling came from wearing long pants the knees weren't used to that.

Wanted to go into the woods today but should do my domestic chores. Laura comes home today and would like to have all that out of the way before she arrives. She'll be tired from spending time down there and the drive. Sure hope those fake eggs do the trick. Think I'll try to seperate them and lock them in till mid day.

Was just down at my trap...thought I had gotten a skunk last night 'cause I smelled him bad! Nope--TG! I have another cat this morning! This one seems REALLY wild so I guess I will have to keep it in the trap or put it in another portable carrier. Dont know if it would get along with the one I already have in my holding cage...
Anyone have any use for green and yellow feathers? My parrots are molting right now and I throw out a ton of them when I do their cage. A lot are the super tiny ones like for tying flies. Anybody do that? I dont know if fish like green or yellow any better than regular chicken feathers like we all have...any idea if they have a preference? (hellooooo...any fish out there?

Pretty quiet around here today...no kids! And DH is outside reading his book. The mosquitoes must be not bad! Have a great day! Terri O

Well, a really nice family came and took the two Calls today - they saw some Calls at the fair the other night, thought they were cute, and then they saw my CL posting last night - impulse buyers like me.
smile.png
They have a trio of Mallards right now, and an nice, big enclosure for them all. I mentioned BYC to them a couple of times, so I hope they'll turn up here! I liked them - they asked all the right questions - like what kind of food the ducks are used to eating, if they'll be okay being separated from their sister that I'm keeping - AND they actually brought a carrier to take them home in. You wouldn't BELIEVE the number of people who came to buy ducklings from me this year and didn't bring a carrier or a box or anything to transport them in!
roll.png

Their sister is fine - doesn't notice they're missing. I took the opportunity to introduce my lonely White Call drake, Sunday, to her - and they're getting along great (also - he's HUMONGOUS compared to her - not so much that I think he'll hurt her at all if he tries to mate with her or anything though)! That was the whole point of getting those Calls in the first place - to get Sunday a female companion!
big_smile.png
Plus, I have those three new Call ducklings down in the brooder to introduce to them in a month or two. I can't wait to see how those turn out! EDIT: Oh yeah, and when I got Sunday at the Beaver Dam swap back in March, his one wing looked really strange, the feathers were all cut up, and he was in rough shape. He just finished molting and I looked at his wing today and figured out why - someone pinioned him - it looks like as an adult, because it's not a neat cut at all, he still has a funky little nubbin of the joint where it should have been cut if he'd been properly pinioned as a duckling - that's what all the chopped up feathers were hanging off of when I got him. I hate pinioning. Some people...

Oh - and the very last egg from that nest that my broody Khaki Campbell was sitting on is hatching right now!
smile.png
I thought that one might have been an egg from my Jumbo Pekin, because it's more oblong than all the other Campbell eggs in the nest, but so far (all I can see is the wee one's little bill) it looks the same as all the other ducklings that hatched from that clutch.
hmm.png
I really was hoping to see a Hookbill/Pekin cross. My poor old Pekin doesn't have any babies (I didn't want to breed her because of her MAJOR arthritis issues), and it would just be sort of a neat, sentimental thing to have one little duckling from her, you know?

Terri O - Which roo, this one?

...or his brother?

Yes Annarie....you have escalated into the category of MAJORLY EVIL now! And I only reserve that title for the most evil of persons! Yes those are the roos you sassy girl!

Hi everyone! I was just wondering if anyone knows what the limits and rules are for having chickens in Manitowoc, WI? I have been trying to find out as much as possible and so far all I have for sure found out is that chickens are allowed, they must all be hens, and they have to stay on your property. I can't seem to find any more information like specific rules of number of hens allowed. My sister works at the humane society in town and hasn't been able to find out much more either. If anyone knows anymore information at would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Welcome GothChick! Just west of you in Wayside

Don't know about the rules in Manitowoc, maybe the least specific the better.

Why why why must you people keep tempting me with ducks before I am ready?

I do want some WH, next year, blast it. Poor DH of mine, we'll be overrun before he knows what happened, lol!

BL4, we share the typing hinderance, I just have a different cause; ever try typing with a squirming, hungry 3-wk-old comadeering 1 & 1/2 hands?

Right now he's sleeping, woohoo! Type away...

Hope you're all having a fabulous Labor Day weekend. Gonna take a drive tomorrow and scout for some wild apples, yum!

eta: Julie found one of her Pekin hens sitting on 13 eggs today! Maybe some babies soon

AND she gave me my first duck eggs to try, they definitely have an 'eggier' flavor but they're tasty. Can't wait to try them in some baked goods...
