Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

BL4 don't know about being a great mind everytime I do something right and think to myself that I was smart to do it like that it I do something that bites me in the butt. Ying/Yang. TO the dark clouds passed and have a beautiful sky but the wind picked up even more. The slw's are 4 months old today and are a lot more stocky than the reds. Keep forgeting to mention that Peatwo has a comb and Btwo doesn't pretty early to tell for me but think I got lucky on the names. Don't know how old the glass eggs are that I scored but found some for sale for $20 a piece. Hand blown milk glass they look just like the pic I saw. My conscience will make me tell the guy that gave them to me about it and will gladly pay him for them if he wants or trade for eggs if I ever get back on track. Speaking of which got a super jumbo this AM so far and 2 hens are in the boxes.

UW Colleges Online - just the basics to fulfill my 2 year Associate of Arts and Science degree right now. I wanted to do Oregon State's online Natural Resources or Wildlife Ecology program, but I tested too low in mathematics on my ACT (which is crap - I got a top score in every other area, and placed in the 94th percentile overall, and I only studied for a week and took the test once!), so I'll do two years with the UW and see if Oregon State wants me then.

The Mottled Cochin eggs from Frizzledhen arrived this afternoon - they went to Portage again instead of the Dells (the Dells post office is 10 minutes away from me, the Portage post office is 40 minutes away from me - what gives?), but I went and collected them and they're in perfect condition - all 17 of them!

Anyways, I have a big Composition II essay to finish and get in by midnight!

Friday Evening All....Waiting for the outside cookers to get hot enough for another Fish Fry ...lots of krincle cut home made frys for sure. Picked a huge bouquet of french breakfast radishes today. The fall harvest of them is always the best. Plucked another 20 some green and purple sweet peppers from the plants, with more to pick in a few days. Good to see the Vikes get beat last night!

Doc, I'm thinkin of getting the chain saw fired up too. I have a few to cut...some for winter heat, and some dead pines for the fire pit. It burns nice and smells good too.

Enjoy the week end...Stay Safe... ~ bigzio

Hello everyone,

So I had to take my puppy to the vet for his first set of shots on Tuesday and they did a fecal sample and he has Coccidia. I'm not sure what animals can all get it or of it's strictly canine but I know its very contagious. The vet said that adult animals aren't normally affected so I'm hoping the rest of the animals will be ok.

The chickens are doing well but I noticed that they have been fighting a lot lately. Is this normal for their age? They are exactly 3 weeks old today, so I'm not sure if they are just trying to assert dominance or if they are actually fighting. I was always told that Orpingtons are super friendly so it's odd to see them fighting so much. Could their current cage be too small? I have 4 of them in a cage that is about 4 feet long and 3 feet wide and about 2 feet tall. They seem tiny compared to the cage but I thought that might be the issue. Any suggestions or is this just normal?

Also do you ever notice how it seems like there is nothing going on and then everything all happens at once. This Saturday there are a ton of things going on all at the same time. My daughter has a party thing going on at the hospital from 10am-12. Basically its a way for the doctors and nurses to see the children now that they are all 1 year or older, so we are certainly going to that. Then we also have a local event called "Sputnik Fest" going on and I wanted to enter the cake decorating contest they have but its also on the same day that the Food and Energy Fair is going on in Chilton. I was planning on going to the fair because BuckCreekChickens is suppose to be running a booth there talking about raising chickens and is selling some chicks. So I really wanted to check it out and buy some chicks. She was going to let me know what breeds she was selling but I haven't heard anything back from her. So I'm debating if I should just say forget it and stay in town for "Sputnik Fest" because I don't want to waste time driving out to Chilton if there isn't anything I want. URGH! Way too many things on the same day.

Kool Aid Queen- Thanks for the links! I decided to try to find my daughter a white silkie because she loves them. She saw them at the county fair here and wouldn't leave them alone. I tried e-mailing them so hopefully they will get back to me

Speaking of Silkies, can they "adopt" standard size eggs? I want to try hatching some eggs but I'm not sure if I want to actually buy an incubator yet. I heard the silkies are great mothers and thought I could get a silkie hen and let her incubate the eggs. Is that possible? Or should I just suck it up and spend the money on an incubator?

GC--if you get a silkie and she goes broody by all means set her on some eggs! She will do great! I think when you use natural mothers you get better chicks...
wink.png
Well, that is the way I do it anyhow! It seems that if they sit the whole time you get a pretty decent hatch rate! I keep looking at my incubator that is still in the box and wondering IF I will ever even use it?

See BL4--I just KNEW you could do better!!!

DrH I sure hope you get L's g-daughter over! You really seem to enjoy the little ones! I love seeing them discover stuff. I took puppies to the after school program today and the kids were hilarious! I will post pics tomorrow...they are on my daughter's camera.

Thinking about making some popcorn and going to bed...I am really tired again--too much driving! Speaking of driving...guess who got a "new" car??? Going to pick her up tomorrow so I guess I will get a pic of me in it for ya too!

Have a nice night everyone! Terri O

(ps) Sheep and Wool festival tomorrow at Jefferson Fair Grounds...I am going to attend the "beginning shepherd" class I think...ought to be a riot!

Good Morning Everyone! Looks like everyone is sleeping in today! DS(5) woke me up at 5:30 am when he came into our room! Decided to make a Broccoli-chedder Casserole for breakfast this am-uses 12 eggs so it helps depleat the numbers! We also add cubed ham to it and it makes a 3 qt dish full.

moved the 6 baby Welsummer chicks to a bigger crate in our other garage-had to wait for DH to finish painting the doors we took out of the one house we were working on- they wanted them white-they came out good so once the rain stops we will take them back and put them in.

Hopefully will have time to watch the Badgers play today-should be a good game. GO BADGERS!

Off to do chores, have a good one!

Good Morning All! Woke up alive this morning. Kind of surprising after yesterday. BFF and I did an extended session at the kitchen table yesterday aft and well into the evening. Glad that doesn't happen too often. Think it's going to be a lazy day today. Maybe another cup of coffee. Yup TO just love watching kids learning and exploring it puts a smile on my face!
