Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

We just came back from a little road trip to New London to check out the Wolf River...... WOW, the water is right up to the backs of the buildings along Main Street. Dr.H I see what you went through!!!! If we get too much rain over the next few days that water will have noplace else to go but into the streets.

I am going to see if my calls will go broody. I have been leaving the eggs in the shelter for the last 2 days and I have been trying to coax them into keeping their nest in the back of the shelter in the deep hay instead of trying to have their nest in the front of the shelter where the hay is 1/2 and inch deep!

All of your visiting the Horse Fair, have fun!!!! I WISH I could be there!!!!! (And I wish it was warmer....)

Ok, off the 'puter. Family time!!!!

Wet Evening to all. We have 33 degrees here and just rain so far. Hope everyone does well with the water levels.
BigZ congrats on the hunt. Had a good Fish Fry Friday

TO, OUCH!!!!!!! The aspirin sounds like a good idea to me. Sure hope it's not to painful anymore.
Dr.H keep an eye or two on those chickies

MLH,I hear you on the gas prices, they sure do suck. Makes you think twice about going places unless you have to. We drive to work together now and try to do our shopping etc. while in town during the week. My DD 29 wanted to come and see the chicks with GS 9 but the gas $$$$ are keeping them home.

Good luck to all with the hatches, get some sleep if you can.

Good night all, Sue

Got a call this evening from my frantic 12-year-old sister that one of the Call ducks got loose and they couldn't catch it! Apparently, the lid of the house part of their pen got left open, and my Black Call drake, Jet, popped right out! He stayed close by - he was frantic to get back to his girls, just couldn't figure out HOW!

Anyways, I asked if they could handle catching him themselves and they COULDN'T, so Will and I had to drive a half-hour to go catch a duck for them. They had him penned in with some scrap fencing underneath the pen - it took literally 2 seconds to grab him and get him back in his cage where he belonged. Got to watch the happy reunion once he was back with his girls (they were all quacking up a storm and doing their ducky-head-bob - too cute!

), and then we had to make the half hour drive back home.

I cannot wait until this darned house in Baraboo sells and we can get back on some acreage!

On a happier note, the next Call duckling (one of Jet's babies!) is due to hatch tomorrow - it's internally pipped and peeping!

Good Morning All! Yup up at 4:30 otonoh. Should see and hear something today I think. Gonna be a long day! Have bator neck already, it's gonna get worse. Gotta go look again!

morning all, Just got back from walking the dogs, we got hail and freezing rain last night, now it is just raining, gotta get the interior of the coop done this weekend for sure.
Decided to use corn cob bedding for the chicks and had a friend pick me up a bag at ts, since i live over an hour away from one. Need to set up the Brooder so it is ready when I get the call.

have a good day everyone, Dr. Ha Ha. hope the neck survives

Good morning friends! Hey David, you're not using it right away are you? It is not very good footing for them--too wobbly I guess. I always use newspapers or paper towel at first. Then it is easier for them to stand and also easy for them to see the feed I sprinkle down to get them to eat. I add handfuls of pine shavings after a week or so until they are on pure pine (with newspaper underneath (in the tank)) By then they are 3 or 4 weeks old. Just wanted to point this out if you didnt already know.

So it's plenty gray out there this morning...I saw a great day for bator watching DrH! I am picking up my daughter to go to the Horse Fair around 11 now I guess. Not really looking forward to it...my legs just want to stay home propped up I think. I have to get all my scrapbooking stuff out of the car before I can go anywhere! I cant fit another thing in it!

I stopped at the bait store and got some minnows for the call ducks and the turtle that made it over winter in my pond. I thought I had caught them all out and released them but I must have missed one! I am glad she made it; but she was looking mighty hungry the past few days...prolly she is back in the mud now sleeping thinking that summer has passed already and it is time for another hibernation!

I didnt think there was that much water this year BL4! If the Wolf is flooding then I would imagine that we will have it here in the Crawfish and the Rock too. Great, it will be time for my client to come home and she wont be able to because her road will be under water! Must be because of all that additional snow you got up there.

Good hatching vibes to everyone! Only a few more days until I will candle mine and go into lockdown. My cats will sure miss the incubator when I put it away! They think it is a special vibrating heated box just for them to lay on...heck, I guess I save on electricity then right? I have had up to three nestled on top of that thing! I should get a pick and send it to the incubation contest..."strangest thing incubating eggs!"

Have a fantastic day and take your umbrellas along if you go out! Terri O

Terri, I didn't thanks, I was just about to pour them in, I figured tsc used them, I thought it was ok. Guess someone is wrong. . I will uses towels until they are older then switch them to chips and when the get to the coop, I will use the pellets till they are out. Still gray and cold here, gotta get off my butt and finish the coop.

Good cold, dreary morning to all. I'm actually happy with the weather, the dogs are out growing coat, the lighting is great for snake photos (gotta get pics of 10 clutches today so I can get them registered and ship out the non-keepers. I register them all, more for record keeping and having the ability to go back and analyze colors/patterns in the future on past clutches.) Glad I only have 12 clutches this year instead of last year's 35! I'm putting more time into my chickies, cutting back the snakes to just my favorite projects.

The laying pen is all out and reveling in the rain, mowing down the fresh grass and running around like...well...chickens with their heads cut off.

Better get to my photos. Have a good day all.

Good morning all!

Sounds terrible up there... cold, rain, floods, wow. Hope nature settles her butt down soon!

TO yeah, aspirin for sure! I hope it's not anywhere near as painful as it looks!

Hurley, what kind of snakes?? Would love to see some pics of 'em.

Okay, enough playing on this dang computer this morning. Have to get to the grocery store as I have put it off so long (I HATE to shop for anything!) that there's nothing left to eat other than toaster waffles and 2 eggs, 3 pieces of bacon and some soup! And then I need to get some packing done... only 37 more days until closing... not that I'm counting or anything!

Hope everyone has a great day!

Deb
