Didn't do much on the coop today, just dug around it and put hardware cloth so no critters can get underneath. I am a bit worried about Bianca, She is a slw and had pasty butt. She doesn't seem to be that strong and sleeps alot. I am making sure she gets food and water but she isn't growing

Amy, hope Cartman sees a better day tomorrow...for both of you! If he likes ponies, in a week or two ours should be shedded out --- Smokey gives great little kid rides.

Yeah, Brent, I forgot about that batch of pullets.. I take it all back..

as a matter of fact,tomorrow, Annie wants to butcher some of those roosters we traded the pullets for.. I need their pen for a breeding pen.. If it goes well, we might just do about 14 roos tomorrow.. that would free up two pens..

Well I had my panic day earlier when the new silkie that had 2 days go really well in the coop with the other birds, got attacked a little this morning and got alot of feathers on her back pulled out and one little sore... grabbed her out, put some blue kote on her- she seems to be fine. went through the "where to put her phase" and then remembered that I have a wooden rabbit cage ... so cleaned that up as best i can do without a hose hooked up in the backyard right now, lined it with hay and for a little bantam... there is tons of room.

I know my main instigator of problems is my big 1 year old white rock, but 2 of my 9 month olds were following the white rocks lead... I am hoping if i can get rid of her, it might solve the problem and the "teenagers" might calm down. I still have 2 babies to add to the coop in a few weeks. \\

Yup- have to laugh... promised Dh we would not succum to chicken math when we acquired them... We are technically zoned for 6 birds here. Well we have 5 big birds in the coop right now, the silkie in the rabbit coop and 2 babies in the basement. if I have my wish, we will leave the silkie in the kennel, add another bantam friend for it and then have 7 in the other coop. At least we are selling all the eggs left adn right and DH likes to see that.

Evening all,

Just checked on Bianca and the girls, I had to separate them this morning, The golden Comets were picking on the slw. They are about 5 days apart in age. Bianca a bit more poo on her butt, Cleaned it off and also put some olive oil on her, It was less than before so hopefully she will be fine. She has a splayed foot, she can walk but hobbles, she is also the smallest of the slws. I am not sure if I should try the bandaid treatment, if it is too late or, if she is too fragile. Any thoughts?

BBP--I would try a bit harder to contact the owner. I got a racing homer by default too...the owner did not want him back...I guess they fly off sometimes or just get too tired to make it to where they need to go. (or are not conditioned enough) Good luck!

Good for you BigZ amking all those eggs for people! So can you put an egg in each hand and crack them? I used to be able to do that when I was working at McD's...many moons ago! I had a boss that could do two in each hand! That was impressive...now that I think about it, maybe I am remembering it wrong?

If you can get it to work David you can try. I have made "chicken shoes" for quite a few and they seem to really help with splay and other stuff too. Good luck! Just dont make it too tight. Oh yeah...I was also going to tell you that they really shouldnt have any treats for a while; dont want to mess up their fragile little digestive system!

Well my bator is quiet. Not sure if I am done or not...will take a better look tomorrow. I have 5 light chicks and 16 dark chicks in the brooder right now. They are all sound asleep! I though I didnt have a single feather footed baby but now that they are drier I see that I have several! WHoo--hoo! I love the feather footers! I guess that Abe (the salmon fav) and Rusty (the cuckoo Marans) must be doing their jobs. I wonder what they will look like when they grow up? Man, first I cant wait until they are out of the egg then I cant wait until they are grown up. WHat is up with that? I guess I just like to hatch chicks and see what comes of it!
Well, off to close up...spring peepers are singing again tonight...longest season for them EVER! Perhaps this is the looongest spring ever? I sure hope to plant something soon! Sweet dreams all! Terri O

Congrats on Hunter, he's a cutie! My oldest was born at the exact same weight. Now he's 2, geez, time flies. Seems like he was just a little peanut.


Got a late start working on my brooder today, had to stare at chicks, go get supplies, stare at chicks, do chores, stare at chicks, gather people to judge the stinkeye contest, stare at chicks, you get the idea.

After a little start and stop and reworking, I finally settled on a process for making the doors...man those suckers are more work than the rest of the hutch.

Just about done, just need to put a few more hinges on, attach the latches, and cut a hole in the top for a heat lamp. Oh, and put some linoleum on the floor...seal it...move it...almost done.
