Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

10:05 PM and the power just came back on.. It went off at 1:40PM this afternoon..

all the incubators dropped to 73F. Had a turkey pipped, I think it died.. Have over 100 eggs in the hatcher due tomorrow,, Now it is just wait and see..???

I'm just not in the mood to write tonight..

Ahhh Jim--sorry about that sequence of events! Why does the power always seem to go out at the critical time? I have heard this more than once. I am sending good vibes and prayers for the rest to survive!
The aprons can be ordered from a fellow BYCer...I actually thing more than one makes them. There were just some on the auctin thingy at the top of the page today...DrH was looking for some too. I got mine on here too (but cant remember her name) she does parrot and chicken diapers too! Now THAT I would like to see!
No ideas for you on your questions Susie J...I guess I would say to go ahead and hang the feeder if you can. I have one hanging and two ground ones in my coop. For the chicks I use a glass pie pan...they poop in it though; but they cant tip it! I am thinking that your Jungle Jane wants satin sheets in her nest box? I have a few birds that lay right by the door too--new development here...
Well, time for me to hit the rack...sleep tight everyone! Terri O

oh Jim, I am sorry, the power went out the same time here didn't get back on till 1am. Chicks are fine. Good luck on the hatch tomorrow. fingers crossed.
gonna be a long day.

Terri, I really like your coop. If I didn't live in suburbia, mine would look the same. I had to blend mine in with the house and shed.

Is it open to the public? I would maybe want to come to listen and learn if there will be other general public there and I can make it. I assume this is Milwaukee.

Good Morning Everyone! Rai I would have gotten the garden in sooner if I owned a set of swim goggles, it was under water until about a week and a half ago. Jim that really sucks about the power and your losses was worrying about you and otonoh with those high winds. Maybe you should have snuck those eggs under your mom.

Was windy here but not bad. Going to have to order some aprons too. Took a good look a Btwo just feathers missing no skin broken. Called around no one had them. When I called The Feed Store in Rapids the guy said he had never heard of them and had been there 20 years.

Told him about diapers too but don't think he believed me.

The slw hens are a little upset they didn't hear from their children on mothers day.

Their hoping that today they will get B'day wishes. Their 1 yr old today turns out that it's mine too. CAKE and BEER for everyone!

TO think the kids will like their new digs! Good Job! bl4 good luck with your batin! All the plants loved the rain yesterday now it's dry today that should give them a good start! I'm going to look into heirloom seeds that will take me to the next level. Thanks for the info MLH! kee glad to hear things are headed in the right direction! Should hit the woods again but there seems to be some loose ends that need tending to.

Gonna start my coop today. Planning on doing it real slow and calmly. A carpenter i am not. Basically doing the purina shed with some modifications. I will take pictures as i go, today i am picking up the lumber for the base and a couple sheets of lattice to screen area from roving eyes. Plan to use that to plant some kind of vine plants, do berries climb lattice? I picked up the corner concrete blocks yesterday. The area is sloped so i have to till it and remove some soil, then bury the corner posts. Plan is to get base built, vinyl on, and corner posts cot and drilled. Then the front wall, which will have two windows. Wife wants shutters and flower boxes on the front. Wish me luck!

Let's not give 'em up for dead just yet.. The pipped turkey did not die, as a matter of fact she; #13, is all hatched and happy..

All the chicks I moved out to the coop brooders came through ok,
and the young chickens ; 5 & 6 weeks old; in the outside pen just prooved to me that they don't need extra heat..
I counted them this morning.. 16 white first generation from red stars, and 21 barred rocks.. Looks to be about 1/3 roosters..

TO I was answering your ? about nest plans when the power went out.. exactly how detailed do you need? I could make up a cutting diagram.. or verbally describe what to do.. do you have access to a table saw? will your nests be accessable from both sides or just the front?

Dooner, good luck on the coop building. I too want flower boxes and shutters... but once it comes time to actually build then thing I'll see how I feel about that! I'm on my own w/the coop building, DH says he doesn't want ANYTHING to do with the chickens... right... but I'll bet he'll be more than happy to eat the eggs! Also plan on building a play house for the grandkids and even though I've waited years to be able to have chickens I'll end up doing that first

Thinking I can get the playhouse done in a matter of days, gonna use pallets so it should go together fairly easy.

well, movers should be here shortly to prepare a quote... so I better get moving.

Have a fantastic day everyone!

Dooner, it is open to the public! If youŕe on Facebook you can get updates on our page there - Cream City Hens (the one with the green logo). Otherwise, weŕe on the docket, #19 of 20, the meeting starts at 9am at the Milwaukee County Courthouse in room 301-B. Iḿ still trying to get in touch with someone to see what time weŕe actually going to be up.

Climbing vines? Try grapes or hops...they grow relatively quickly and the chickens love both. Actually, hops are a good choice because theyŕe really healthy for chickens: http://www.grit.com/Daily-Commute/Keep-Your-Chickens-Healthy-with-Hops.aspx. When I get better established Iḿ going to be all over the hops.
