Had fun at the dog show today. Charlie took reserve today (watched the judge give breed to a handler then gave her breed in another couple breeds...surely not politically driven...not going to say anything about the quality of that aussie, as Thumper's dad told him to say "if you can't say anything nice, don't say nuthin' at all"), showed nicely and he is looking like a show dog now in personality and coat.
Gorgeous coops! Puts my little coop and the juvenile shed to shame, but they're functional.
Never saw a pip in the relocated eggs, haven't thrown them out of the incubator yet, but should before something asplodes. The 7 chicks, however, are doing well, fat and growing.
Wanted to share a video of Thomas. He's doing pretty well with his counting. Hubby threw together a little java program for him to practice on the old laptop.
(Especially like the reaching hands of little brother trying to smidge the keyboard.)
Baby boys had fun in the kiddie pool this afternoon.
Gotta run in tomorrow and pick up a package from FedEx hopefully containing my future puppies to be.
They're flying in from the east coast in a chilled vial. Wish us luck for a successful litter!
Moved the 4 black ameraucanas (split to lav) up to the big coup tonight. The 5 lavenders from that hatch are a little smaller, didn't want to risk them in the "big boy" pen yet, so they'll hang out with the youngsters and the silkies for a while longer. Having a devil of a time deciding what sex the black ones are. They pretty much all look the same...spose I could have 4 cockerels, but I hope not. Had little trouble telling the bantams Ams, but the LF are giving me some fits.
got gramma to bed. now I have a little time for myself before I turn in..
tonight for the first time in a long time, we have NO birds in the house.. I put 5 turkeys out, then mixed a few of the youngest chickens and all of the guineas together in a double wide brooder in the chicken coop.. 39 guineas plus chicks = 62 of them..
I am going to try to sell my Blue laced red Wyandotte rooster.. we do not need him anymore and Annie suggested we butcher him when we do the extra roosters..
I think I will sell the trio of Ukokkei also.. One hen is not a true breed..
good night..
D. If you want to find out if there is an owl around, let one of your chickens sleep in the willow tree.. LOL
Good evening. Nice number of posts to catch up on tonight! Nothing much new here...had an extra 4H meeting tonight to catch up on our stuff for the fair. Our stall decorations are shaping up--most of the kids show horses and our theme for this year is RODEO. We have silhouettes of the different things you might see in a rodeo and the kids are writing a small article about how that event had to do with sportsmanship (which is the special emphasis theme for the year) My daughter picked the role of the clown!
Actually they werent at the meeting and they picked it for her--she loved the idea! Since she is one of the few English riders in our club and there really isnt any rodeo event that features that discipline it was a good fit. (in more ways than one I might add!) It should be fun.
Kids are camping this weekend and we will meet them at Devil's Lake State Park for our Father's Day traditional cookout. At least the camping stuff will be out and newly washed for the bash! Maybe they will realize what is missing too and save us from a last minute run to Wally's!
OK I am shutting down and going to bed...did I post the link to the trade, sell, give list last time? If not, here it is again. Nighty night! Terri O
I sooooo have to go to bed. Did way too much weeding today & have even more to do tomorrow. But I just had to say.....
WELCOME TO WISCONSIN, DEB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So happy to hear you made it safe & sound.
Dornes, yes, it is hackberry trees that I am interested in. The berries are edible, but I am more interested in them to feed the birds. I have quite a number of trees & shrubs that I have planted specifically for food sources for birds. In fact, it has to provide a seed, nut, berry or shelter for birds, or provide food for us, or it doesn't get planted around here. And I really try to stick to native species if I can also. That is just a part of my twisted idea of my "perfect" yard. Yeah, that and that stupid river that I just had to have........
Speaking of perfect yards, Dooner, that is awesome! Beautiful coop & yard!
Love the job you did on your coop, Dornes. That must have been a ton of work you did rebuilding that entire thing. You should be proud.
And Shanti, what have you been feeding those birds? Yeouch! I think you'd better put an icepack in her nest this evening.
Sorry to all I missed. Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!
Good Wet Morning Everyone! Welcome home dk!!! Glad you had a safe trip! If I ever move again I'm only taking socks and underware.
CC I actually don't mind weeding
you get sit out outside and watch and listen to the world. TO you are active in so many great causes you get an atta girl!
ODrH hope your shipment is still viable and you have the pups your looking for! Will have to check out your vid in a bit. Geez Dooner I thought I had a pretty nice coop, now I want to burn mine down a start over.
bl4 I think we should move the Bash to Dooners place next year think there's plenty of room in that pool for all of us.
might be a little tight in the bunkhouse though. Dornes that's a shame about having to rebuild but it gives you the chance to make changes if needed. But it looks like it's coming along nicely! Bigz FFF was yummie had to buy Haddock, like crappies more better. A fella would have to go fishin more often for that
As you may have guessed I've never been one to follow the rules.
Glad I checked out the tent yesterday too small for the mattress. Gonna go get a bigger tent from the BFF and see if he has a pump for the mattess. It has a large opening for inflation/deflation my little cigarette lighter pump won't work. AND IT'S REALLY LOUD! Planning my preBash schedule for next week for the Q's and noodles. Looked at the long range forecast. Not gonna say a word and jinx it! I know I sound like a broken record but there's 2 nice trees laying by the splitter one is bucked up and the top is in the shed and the other is waiting for the next dry day. Sure was sticky yesterday didn't take but 5 seconds to break a sweat. But there was a nice breeze. It's not raining just might have to go weed the big garden. Enjoy your day!
Good morning everyone (that's up already that is...) I got up at 7
which is amazing for me on a Saturday! I have so much to do again...mostly to do with getting this place ready to be left for a weekend! I hope Carol doesnt mind house sitting in a MESS! (heck, maybe she will even be in a cleaning mood!) I stayed up way too late last night too...but once I am awake...my mind starts flying with the stuff I need to do! I really need to move sheep and birds today but think I will need some help with that.
Our coffee pot is so darned slow lately! Gonna try the vinegar treatment and if that doesnt work I will go and get another one...what ever happened to a coffee pot that lasts for 5 or 6 years (or maybe 10?) Oh yeah...that's the one that sits on the campfire!
Deb--I wonder what that dog from MI is thinking? Some nice couple comes and gets him, they go on a really long ride, and them BAM! Back in a kennel again!
I bet he wont believe it when he is finally able to sleep on the couch! I hope your drive went as well as expected and the shock of movers showing up early didnt take too many years off your life. THat had to throw you for a loop! I hope for their sake that you were kinda ready...
Welcome to WI!
This coffee is giving me a gut-ache--must be too strong. That is quite the coop and pool! WOW is all I can say! I could just see that around here...there would be geese and ducks in there all the time! I am so glad the neighbors have a pond and it's on the same side of the road as us! Which reminds me...I was going to bake a pie for said neighbors...they just bought the place and I have yet to meet them. The other neighbor that sold the house to them says that they havent officially moved in yet...might have to take a walk over (or maybe ride my horse) Hmmm----I wonder if I could ride my horse AND carry a pie?
Carol says that the auction that they are going to today has a chariot for sale! I wonder if it is guilded with gold? I am thinking Roman type...is there another kind? I dont think I have ever seen a chariot except for in the movies and at the Renaissance Fair! THat was cool though, We watched jousting too--what a thrill!
Cant help ya here with the bunnies Jim...I bet Carol has a lead though!
Well, I think I am going to eat some eggs...maybe that will calm my tummy down a bit! Then I need to make coleslaw and fried chicken for our Father's Day picnic tomorrow. Maybe I will just skip out on that and have DD grill it...so much simpler!
Have a fantastic day all--and if I dont get back here before tomorrow...Happy Father's Day to all Dad's out there too! Terri O
so far it looks to be nice today. Been busy the past 2 weeks- working on getting a unit ready and had to paint all the walls including the ceilings-just about done- should finish by mid week and then onto the next 3 that will need to be ready to go.
Picked up the tiller from my parents and worked in the garden between the rows, now just to start cleaning out by the plants- half the garden looks good. Does anyone pile up the bedding from the chickens to turn into compost? If so do you add anything to it- we started piling up the used shavings in one corner of the garden to break down.
Will be working at home this weekend finally instead of at our units. DH has to change out our house garage door as 2 panels are pulling apart and making the door in danger of coming down. The door is probably as old as the house(14 years) and isn't as good of quality as we are replacing it with.
