good evening, It is not too late to hatch chicks.. The broody will take care of them.. I had chicks with a broody when it was less than 5oF during the daytime.. One year I raised about 80 chicks outside (under the lean-to roof)...under a brooder hood when it was minus 20F.. I agree with BigZ "go for it".....

FT, sorry, no peacocks for sale , here.. guess who..

I caught a rat in the live trap today. Annie told me she saw one this morning.. How is that for quick ??

My brother came out and showed me how to prune tomato plants.. really easy to do.. I really have to get in there and tie them to the stakes.. He spotted coon tracks in the garden.. I sort of knew they were around,, but denial, you know ??

I kicked the "inside dwelling" dog outside for the night.. maybe he will ward off whatever is after the chickens..
Annie left the back gate open and ALL the young guineas and young chickens were out all day.. I closed the fence gate so they would at least stay inside the fence.. Tonight at lock-up the lean-to looked kind of empty.. I looked behind the chicken coop and ALL of the young guineas were bunched up in a corner.
I herded them around the chicken coop and toward their door.. It was awesome.. they stayed in a tight bunch all the way and went right in.. what luck !!

I had to lift the fence and let a turkey hen into the chicken yard. I don't know why she was in the blackberry patch.. speaking of blackberries.. the plants are reaching over the chicken fence and it is almost imposible to get within 3 feet of the fence from the inside of the yard..

The new red rooster did not show up for meals today.. I think the fox got him .. didn't last one night.. He hid out after I broke up the fight yesterday.. should have not gone into the blackberry patch to hide..

Morning all!

Waiting for a load of laundry to get done from the washer.....dh is leaving for Game Feast today so I need to make sure he has some clean clothes to take! I Actually washed them yeserday but kept getting side tracked and forgot to take them from the dryer...to many wrinkles later and I decided that I didn't want to iron, so I'd start over!! All well.....

For those of you who are interested and can use some duck, goose, turkey, or chicken eggs cartons, EggCartons.com has some really neat clear plastic 6 egg count cartons for sale. With free shipping! It a great deal just on the free shipping! I ordered some of the "seconds" paper cartons and they came yesterday. They are those snap apart ones for 6 eggs so I'm all set if I have some one who wants 6 or 12....Here is the like in case some one wants to have a looksee...

I was out feeding the rabbits last night and after collecting Valerie's egg (she is a afternoon/early evening layer), I decided to give the Girls some bread. I checked their little pen for any stray eggs and saw none. I ran in the house to get the bread and came out to find an Orloff eating what I thought was a leaf. I realized that it was an egg shell!! Apparently some one laid a paper thin shelled pullet egg in their little pen and it must have broke when it hit the ground. All the Girls were eating the egg. Argh! Now we wait and see if they decide to eat eggs....I'm really hoping that this was a fluke and that they won't but 2 and 2 together....While I'm not holding my breath, dh is a little more optimistic. Man, they are just starting to lay! I don't want to get rid of my Girls because they eat eggs....*sigh* so frustrating....

Well, the washer got done and I've got to go see if my morning layers eggs are still intact!

No wonder I'm running late! Too much to address again. Sooo Got the fridge out of the camper after a 2 hour delay. Seems it's not a good idea to accidently puncture the system with a pry bar. The refridgerant smelled like a cross between amonia and clorine. Had to air it out before continuing. While I was waiting I started cleaning out the machine shed. So now I have 2 unfinished major jobs going, oh wait make that around 27. Gotta get the garbage to the curb, haul a load crap out back to my dump, get the pressure washer and my tractor back to Donny, make a couple of picking trips to the garden and...... Anyone need a a roll up awning for a 25' camper? The canvas is almost brand new, comes with all the mounting brackets and arms. $100. I gotta go!
