Supposed to rain tomorrow think it'll be a good day to make up a bunch of giardinara to can. Good neighbor Donny stopped over yesterday and told me he just bought a small Ford tractor with a bunch of attachments.

He calls it our tractor. Gonna help him go get it this morning. He told me I could drive it back I told him that I might just keep going past his place and end up at mine.

I am offering some chickens to my friends here.
2 pairs of silkies, a blue splash roo w/ a black hen who still lays and went broody last year, and a low quality pair of white, 1 white that came back from Kristi as it turned out to be a roo.
2 ameracauna hen and pullet, this years hatch, the adult isn't laying colored eggs, just boring light brown/tan eggs.
And an unknown/unsexed chick a few months old, blue/slate colored. ( I got it as a straight run).
Also I will offer 2 english Cuckoo Maran pullets, clean legged but GORGEOUS, fairly friendly. I got 3, then got a call from the person who hatched them offering me a 4th for free.
LARGE pullets !!
Free.

Im so glad you are not close to me because I know DD would love to have those!

WcC, what are you asking for the Cuckoo Marans? I may be interested........

No baby ducks yet, but I am thinking pretty soon. Sorted out who has what eggs yesterday but I bet that will change again and I'll have to put them back into the 'proper' nest.

I have gotten a few tomatoes off my plants now. That duck poop sure made them grow and produce! I also managed to accidently plant some hot house tomatoes (the ducks had eaten them and the seeds were mixed in with the composted manure/dirt under their pen.)

Did some weeding yesterday and sritted up something I am allergic to. I hate spending the rest of the day popping pills and fighting off a headache!

Going back to Great America next week!

A last blast of summer before school starts!

good morning all, was a nice cool night for sleeping..

today is my frustrating shopping day.. have to locate a set of bearings for the mower deck.. I don't know if these are metric or not.. we have a supper good bearing shop near me that usually can fix me up..

then I have to take the hub assembly to my friends machine shop and press the old bearings out and the new ones in..

Annie couldn't wait for morning to check on her clucks with the turkey eggs.. she found two more poults this morning.. 3 in the CTV,now.. I counted down,, at Christmas they will first be old enough to sell.. and that date will stretch out to Jan 20 of 2012..
I hold onto them for 12 weeks..

Dr H.. about 10 years ago I built one of those garage kits from Menards for a guy.. They sent all kinds of extra material that we didn't need.. 1x4's 3 extra sheets of plywood (OSB) etc.. It amounted to about $200.oo worth.. I hauled it all back to them and the guy got a refund on the excess.. You are farther ahead to make your own cut list and take it to the lumber yard..

for those of you thinking of building coops.. consider steel siding and roofs.. like a miniature to moderate sized pole building..
steel siding, insulation, osb or plywood sheathing on the inside.. this type of building will last a life time with no maintenance..

I just got a call through to SWAP SHOP on the Merrill radio station.. I usually get a callback or two from that..

I have to make up a price list for my birds.. I tend to quote different prices at different places and then I forget..

HI otonoh dave.. I would guess that your production reds did not lay the white egg

Yeah Dr H.. Marlene will sure be surprised.. but it will take about two months before you can tell at a casual glance the difference between the RP turkeys and guineas.. I am not going to warn her,, I want to see how she handles this one.. LOL

I turned the incubator back on this morning.. quail eggs.. I have to modify a hatching tray for these tiny eggs.. If I keep going with the quail, I will order some quail trays....

Good morning Everyone! Had a great visit with Amy, Julie. "Cartman" and Madeleine yesterday! They brought their boots! Thank God...we were slip-slidin' away in all my mud! Nothing like taking folks on a tour and realizing that "you just have too much!" Yeah....my DD25 was really upset when she heard I was going to start butchering again. She hated the thought of it...yeah so do I but I think I need to get this "hobby" under control! At least I need to try anyhow!

Jim--I have quail trays for my LG turner....if you would like some of them I can share. I only put one tray in the turner and I have a bunch. I cant see loading the whole thing up.....(I dont thinks so anyway...)
lau.gif
We were watching Iron Chef last night and they had a roasted quail on the plate. Well, it looked kinda sick--like a little baby chicken. I am going to try it though. Amy said there was someone on here that gave a great tutorial on butchering them...I am just glad that they all look the same!

Carol--I have your Jaerhon chicks from Amy...or was it Julie? The guineas in the ChickTV are way more accommodating than when I had chicks in there and tried to add something new! I popped the chicks in and they were fine and then later in the day I popped in a just hatched guinea from the bator and they accepted it right away too! I like that....

Julie--little Roo is fine today. He found the high roost in the kennel and is pleased as punch with himself. He has made friends with the production black that is in there...I think he will stay there until his GF gets better.

Anyone have an idea if I can hobble a young pullet? (D'uccle) I think she has a pulled tendon or broken pelvis or something. Her one leg keeps going out to the side or the back. She can move it but cant seem to keep it in the right place.

When I go back to Fort I will take some pics of the sheds the guy makes on hwy 89. I stopped to take a look and they are gorgeous! cedar siding and metal 2-hip roofs. I imagine he could make it to your specs...he delivers too! I will stop, take pics and get his info. The shed as he had sitting there was just over $1000 including delivery. I am wondering if he would just make me a REALLY nice coop and they I could burn down what I have. I am jealous of H&R's set up...man, that is a nice coop!...To be able to actually CLEAN in there sure is a plus! I didnt think of that when I put my chickens where they are (22 years ago)...cant even get a wheelbarrow close enough...I am thinking I will let it get full so I cant stand up in there and then push the whole thing down and start over. Might actually be the best thing for it!

OK--that is just depressing talk...guess I better get outside and run water and make more MUD! I think the one call baby that survived is a hen! Yeah!
Hey Jim---your blue Americanas start laying yet? I think mine are stuck! What about the Buckeyes left Brent? Anything?...Nothing here yet. I am anxious to see eggs from them!

Later all...as usual, have a fantastic day--it is gorgeous out there! Terri O

(PS) One pick for you this morning...an update on Turk's Baby...(thanks for the complements BTW!) This little birdie is sure camera shy! All the sibs were running up to me and he just kept hiding behind Mama!

I think he is looking like a little roo...what do you think?

Morning all. Just killing time waiting for things to dry out so I can put the second coat on the trim that needs it and waiting for the phone guy. It was so nice that they could narrow it down to a 12 hour time frame! Just hope he shows this time!!

Of course I couldn't pass up the opportunity to take the camera out for a couple of minutes... this is what I found... I LOVE sparkly stuff! Thankfully nature provides a lot of it, cuz lord knows DH don't

10 years is a long time nowadays, Jim. Now you're lucky if you get all the materials that should be included, & I'd be suprised if they even gave you one extra screw.

Deb, how in the heck do you get those shots????????????? That must surely be one sweet camera you own. Your pics are breathtaking.

Hi again,
I just got back from my parts quest I did pretty well, I found the bearings.. Now I just have to figure out how to press out the old ones.. I went.to two different friend's places and neither of them had a press.. I will go up to the neighborhood steel place and get a couple of bars of steel and make one, I guess.

another turkey hatched while I was to town.. #4 ...

I have 44 quaail eggs to get into the incubator..

TO,thank you for the offer... I have some of those quail holders for the LG also.. the trays in the GQF are 12 " x 12" It won't take much to convert them for quail.. then I can set 60 in each of 2 trays I have..
Then if push comes to shove, I can use the chicken egg holders and I have stacks of them..

I suppose I could make a frame to hold the LG holders in the GQF, too..

I don't see any evidence of eggs from my americaunas.. they seem much slower to mature..

TO your chick sounds like it has spraddle leg.. I just posted a remedy for that about a week ago.. I have it on file and can PM it or email it to you if you want.. the sooner you try to rectify it the better are your chance of good results.........

I don't think it is too difficult to get a screw from Menards..
