Happy birthday, Jim! And you definitely must post pics of you wearing your hat band made out of guineas.

Although I don't think the guineas will like it too much.

Wow! Sorry I said anything.

Can't remember if I already posted this but . . .
Only in WI would you stop at a stop sign and see this! I tried to help shoo them back home but they ran around me and took off down the road. At least they're staying in their own lane lol!

OMG is that cute !!! Wish my horses would stay in their own lane !!! Although I live on a back gravel road really is only one lane !! They got out a couple of times on us or should I say on DH !!! and do you think they would stay in our yard and eat or ???? No they had to hit the road. Then hit our 20 acres. Then got them almost home, they ran past the driveway all the way up about a half mile. Turned around, back to the 20 !! Finally when they were all done playing games they (all 9 of them) ran and turned up the driveway !! They knew there way home, the little stinkers. The one time the three amigo donkeys hit the neighbors field. I took my ATV looking for them and of course it it pitch black outside !! I heard something, and thought I saw something and I sure hoped it was my donkeys cause I would have had the sh!t scarred out of me if it was anything else. Luckily it was them. That was hard rounding them back up. But once you get one donkey going the others follow suite.

BigZ !!!!!! So glad your back.

Now we can quit talking about you !!!

Jim you are a rascal tonight !!! There is a full moon out there tonight I saw.

WCC and TO, I agree about letting them out for only short periods of time. Unfortuneately all of my horses are prime candidates for founder. All of the horses are drafts or draft crosses and of course I have the pony and donkeys. The one male donkey has foundered in the past according to the farrier. It was before I got him. He is not tender and he does not have the elf slipper feet. So I'm thinking they will be staying in the dry lot with the pony.
I remember when I boarded they let the horses out for just a half hour at a time at first. How many days for the half hour and when can you increase it? Then is it for an hour ??? Then what???
I know it will all depend on the weather. This is not the ideal time to put them on pasture. Just happens to be when it was done.
barnie.gif

If I need to wait until late spring I will. I don't want to take the chance.
The small pasture that we just fenced was not cut at all this year (we have cut in in previous years). We had the neighbor cut it with our brush hog (our tractor was not working) about a month ago.
Then about 4 days before we let them out on Sunday I cut it with the mower which really didn't cut much off. Just evened it out. I was actually looking for holes. I knew there was one a couple of years ago and I wanted to make sure there weren't any new ones. So there was not any fresh cut grass.
It is not plush pasture by any means. It has thin grass and of course dandelions and some other weeds but none that I think are toxic. The dogbane is on the outskirts of our fields as are the choke cherry trees. The vet said Horray Alysum (sp) is a very toxic plant and has seen alot of poisoning up here with it.
When we let them out on sunday they mostly were eating along the fence line of course. DH ET had mowed it long before the neighbor cut so he could put in the fence posts. That grass was shorter and greener.
So today we didn't let them out because we don't have a gate from their paddock directly into the pasture and it was a real pain trying to catch them all and lead them one by one into the pasture.
This morning I heard alot of pounding and banging. I thought he was putting on the gate to the pasture. When I went out to tell him we are going to wait until the mornings to let them out I see he had not even touched the gate !!! He was ripping apart my dads pontoon boat. He had the railings and deck boards off and was removing the pontoons from the deck frame. He said the deck frame was still good and was going to use it to make a chicken coop !!!
ep.gif
Think he has got chicken math !!!
thumbsup.gif

Tomorrow is pen cleaning day for the silkies and if I have time I'm going to try to make the zuchinni soup !! I finally have all of the ingredients but if I don't hurry up I won't have zuchinni !!
he.gif

And if I don't pick my pumpkins the deer will have eaten them all !!!
barnie.gif

As far as the slaughter plants go I have mixed feelings. I understand there needs to be a place that is close to home where older or lame horses can be put down humanely but for breeders to use it as a form of birth control so to speak to use it as a dumping ground is wrong. But how do you change it ???? I never see any vets offering free or low cost gelding clinics !!! What is anyone doing to stop the breeders from overpopulating ? It is a vicious cycle ! Unfortuneately the horses suffer the consequences. Just like the dogs & cats do. Very sad indeed. I have mares and do not plan on breeding either. My spotted draft mare was PG with the Fresian when we bought her. Someone wanted to buy her just for the fresian baby. Then who knows what would have happened to my Dottie? So by buying mares and not breeding them, I'm doing my part, or at least not contributing to the problem. I love it, you see so many ads for mares that are advertised as buddies or brood mares because they are lame or have an old injury and good only for light riding if any riding at all !!
somad.gif
Those are the last horses that should be bred and have the excess weight to carry. Talk about a high risk of founder !!!
I wish I would have gotten my horses for free or $40 !!!
ep.gif
I thought paying $300 for the pony was a good deal !!! Oh well, there is no more room for any more and no more money for any others , even if they're free !!!
th.gif
Well maybe a haflinger !!!

Deb, did you tell us about your greeting card business? If so I seem to have forgotten.

Well, the company thing was OK... I got the kitchen clean at least and had shush-k-bobs for supper... that way they could make them themselves and put on what they wanted. Showed them the nice clean coop and new roosts! They even took a pic of all the birds sitting on the roost! It is kinda' cool... I feel like giving lectures to them now!
lau.gif

Jim!!! Guess what? I'm a 9/11 baby too!
thumbsup.gif
(another reason I got stressed over the unexpected company

) Hope you had a good one!

BigZ... Glad your back!!! Thanks Suzie for helpin' the ol' guy out!
gig.gif

The horse thing... as with all animals over breeding is a big problem. Yes, I hate to see them slaughtered, I hate to see many animals slaughtered, but I would rather have them go for food rather than be starving to death themselves. Guess the rest has all been said.

Feathers...It looks like the most "in demand" feathers are from "Grizzly" roosters. If we want to sell feathers we'll have to change that! LOL I think the guinea feathers are very cool and even some of my hens have dropped some pretty ones.

Well, tomorrow I do more canning... better get to bed.

Night!

Good Morning Everyone! Was laying in bed about 4:30 this morning laughing at Peatwo, he was crowing at the moon!

Bigz sounds as if the surgery was a success. Man I sure hope so! Hope you have a speedy recovery!!!!!! Happy Birthday Jim and Cind! TO I had kind of a lazy day yesterday too. Just didn't have any ambition. But I did have the urge to go fishin.
lau.gif
But it was way too windy. But I did manage to get the garden pump pulled and put away and take a walk in the garden to get the last of the maters. Gonna pick the last of the beans today. Talked to Donny yesterday he doesn't like the 9N not enough power for him. Might become it's new owner if he finds one that suits him better.
roll.png
So many more things I could do with that and all the attachments. Would make my life a lot less physical. It has a snow bucket, dirt bucket, an extended back blade, a root hook, single bottom plow, disk, tire chains, and a brush hog. Man just think of the trouble I could get into with that! Was thinkin that I'd sell my Case to offset the cost but think I might keep it just because of the narrow front end, it's a lot easier to navigate in the woods. Gonna be an odds and ends day today then back slingin the saw tomorrow. Have a good one!

Morning peoples!

Happy b-day Jim!

BigZ, sooooo glad to hear the surgery went well and so sweet of Suzie to read you 10 pages and type for you. I could use someone like that!

FT, I may not have mentioned the greeting card biz, I haven't been talking about it much, trying not to jinx anything
lau.gif
Many folks lately have told me some of my shots would make great greeting cards and it got me thinking... and I talked with my DDs and they think it's a great idea, so I decided to take a chance since it won't cost me much to test the waters. Hopefully within the next 4-8 weeks I'll be able to launch it and see what happens.

Well, since my early shift got canceled this morning I'm off to take care of a long list of things that need attention. Hope everyone has a great day!

Deb

good morning, I did not find a pile of feathers yet.. maybe the owl is on a mice diet..

DrH, just what does your neighbor do that a 9N is not enough power ? I think a 9N is just about equal to my Oliver 55.. There is not much I can't do with my 55.. maybe it is really a 8N ?? then I could see the problem,, I had one of those.. even an 8N can pull a double bottom plow.. nice selection of attachments, anyhow..

Happy shared birthday Cind.. we are New Years Eve party babies.. I had 2 cousins, and one of their cousins, and another friend of the family, all 5 of us were born on the 11th(3) 12th and 13th.. coincidence??

,,,,,,,,,jiminwisc,,,,,,,,,,

Morning everone! I decided to wait until Jim got his post in before writing.
hugs.gif
So happy birthday to you and Cind!!! Funny about the New Year's babies.
DD25 is trying to make her lunch...cnat find "anything good" to make a sandwich with...oh brother I went grocery shopping YESTERDAY!
I am trying to drink a cuppa and get motivated for canning...not in the mood this morning I guess. There is another pigeon missing this morning. Hoping he is just on a fly around.
fl.gif

SHe ended up with a tomato, cheese and pepperoni sandy...sounds good to me!

Well, I guess I am just procrastinating...I am sooo good at that! DrH--I would LOVE to have all those attachments to play with! I could do so much...yeah yeah, like I have the time to play with anything else!
lau.gif
The Fam wants me to ask you Carol if you can feed the critters Saturday morning. IT is the state horse show...the people have rented a room to stay in the area...trying to find out what time her class is. She says the first one...that could mean anything! Now it is a bit clearer...after the first break....probably not until noon!

Alright--cuppa is done and so am I--have a fantastic day everyone! Hope you have more ambition than me! Terri O
