Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

My roos crop went down and he is eating well. Still a little weak. All the chickens are on their regiment of ACV, garlic, ginger, and probiotics. Yesterday when I went to open the coop up there was a pretty strong smell of garlic in there. I think it seems to be working. Or could be dumb luck. ( but I did get the info off of BYC)

My son DS29 and my DIL went for supper and drinking with some friends on October 30. Seems more like drinking than dinner. They closed up the bar a block from their house(so they could walk home). So what I have heard is that some people attacked them which started a fight. This is second hand info so who knows what happened. Anyway, the other people ended up in jail. But, my DS29 could not walk when he woke up the next day and needed his friends and wife to carry him to the car and go to the emergency ward. He has a couple of bulging? disks? and upon further doctors visits he now has found out he has 2 degenerated disks.

good afternoon, taking a break.. didn't get things cleaned up totally yet,.. but I did get a new tarp over the oe pen and got the hay stacked all around it to form the shelter underneath.. the birds have already found it and they are laying on the fresh hay, in the sun and out of the wind..It is open only to the south..

it took 16 bales of hay to do it.. I have 4 bale left, I think I will just top off what is there and If I need a bale later on I can snatch one..

that couponing is a good habit, just remember, don't buy anything that you would not buy without a coupon..

Annie went after the male cockatiel.. she will be home after 3PM.

The young turkeys and the young peacock have blended in with the flock very well.. I noticed that this young peacock is not at all spooky around me.. I was afraid she would be skittish..

today I just realized that I have no place to store the big trailer for the winter.. I think I will back in onto the lawn just west of the house..

Now that I am done ranting and making a fool of myself I am really worried about DS29 Nate. I was outside a bit working on the coop but couldnt keep my mind to task. So I am off to take a shower and visit DS29 Nate.

Project day is underway. I have 3 pumpkins left to cook, and KEN jr is covering pinecones with PB and bird seed.

The chickens continue to eat feathers, well just the wyandotte does and others will eat them if they fall to the ground. I am thinking either soup or moving her on. The feed I have is 16% protein so I may supplement with cat food if I have to, but I don't know what else to do. They have hay on the ground with seed to scratch, a cabbage and pumpkin pieces left to eat. They have free choice feed and water.

I am thinking of adding either oats or rye...

It may be time for a nap.

More than just a little frustrated with this one bird. It is getting too expensive to keep her if she isn't producing an egg every day.

What would you do?

KEN

give them animal fat..you need it to digest all that protein. any kind of meat scraps..

and it is not uncommon for a chicken to pick up a feather and eat it.. don't worry about that..

Annie came home with the cockatiels.. yes ,, cockatielS.. she bought one and the lady gave her the brother of the one she bought.. It was a riot here for a few minutes.. I did not know about the 2nd one in the box and he flew out and all around the house.. Of course, the first one was out already too..

Annie caught one and it commenced to biting her finger long and hard.. sorry , I laughed.. remember a couple of weeks ago when I was bitten? who laughed then ? yeah yeah, what goes around comes around..

anyhow we brought the big cage into the house and all 3 birds are in it.. they did not fight or anything.. the big cage is BIG !! 37 inches in diameter and over 6 feet tall.. to say it takes up a large area in the room is an understatement..

Alright I will throw another ball of suet in there and see what happens in a few days.

Thanks Jim, I guess my stewardship of these animals is kicking in.

Hope your new birds enjoy their new digs.

Evening, just leaving from my parents house. Had a nice visit and the boys completed a couple of projects that needed to be done. Helped fill in a big hole- 7 ft deep by 7 ft x 7ft only had enough dirt to fill about half full, the neighbor will be bringing more to help finish filling. Also loaded the skid steer trailer with some scrap to get rid of- it's to big for my dad to handle and they don't want it sitting around.

Jim- I do have Cuckoo Marans, I'll keep you posted when the girls start laying eggs come spring or so. We use a red heat bulb in the coop only if it gets cold for a long period of time. We do have extra lights on so that the kids can have eggs to incubate for 4-H projects.

Waving at you CC as we head onto Hwy 20!!!

Nice evening To Everyone... I'm like most here and wish you could reply to everyone's post. i'm just starting to read again...truly a blessing.

I think you have the blue book TO? I use the dilled sprouts receipe for wonderful canning sprouts. I always add extra red pepper.
If you don't. I'll post it!
I can't remember who said they planted in july? Sprouts take 100+ days, so planting in july was prolly way late. I like to get nice plants in early....middle of may for sure. Just a thought.

Thanks for the kind words sent our way...

everyone here is simply just the best there is!

Kinda funny that one neighbor a couple miles down the road asks premium prices for his garden produce. I see he took prolly a pick-up of load of pumpkins back out to the garden to rot. If i stopped and asked for some for the chickens.....again they would have value....so I'm stubborn and they can lay there....just another thought.

Hope everything works out well tiki...nothing but the best wishes for your family!

Glad other folks are enjoying fresh venzun! It truly is the best red meat.

Hope the Pack can get another win tomorrow. The lions have a bye this week, If the pack can win another it would be huge if they can get a couple games ahead of the dreaded lions. Go Pack! I don't like the Lions!

Be Safe... bigz

I watched the Badgers game with DS29. Had a quiet afternoon. I brought ice cream and root beer and we had root beer floats. Yumm. After all the frenzy I went through in my head , I now dont think things are nearly as bad as I made them out to be. Thanks for your kind thoughts Bigz.
