Hi folks! Hope everyone is well and good. Just spent a bit o time skimming the last 20 pages or so. I find I have to limit my computer time or things get neglected around here. Still have to get some roos processed, the coops readier for snow, and garden put to bed. Don't make me think about the inside of the house.

I think I saw that dkvart just got her woodstove installed? We are next! All the parts just got delivered, will be starting up that first fire hopefully within the week. I can't hardly wait!

I have a cast iron Dutch oven just begging to make some stew. DrH, you made a crack about 100 posts back about a chimney hanging outta the car window...would you believe my dad had an old cargo van retrofitted with a woodstove?? With a chimney and everything! Honest! Can you imagine seeing that going down a snowy road?

Oh, the stories he has...

We had a good Halloween, trick R treated twice, the boys had a good time. It was a ghoul and pony show.

See ya later folks!

Going to make some blocks and treats that are high protein. The question is... How much per day should I give these 8 birds? I am going to treat BOSS or Striped SS, depending how cheap they are. Right now they are $0.89/lbs.

Drinking a cup of chai tea and enjoying a quiet evening. Nice to meet some folks that are catching back up again.

Right now I am draining pumpkin puree, watching TV and working on my sermon/searching FB/BYC.

Thinking about getting some candy from my kids and opening up a book. I do have an extra hour of sleep tonight. I am so excited for the time!!!

Have a great night, time to go shut the coop.

KEN

Your new mini coop sounds awesome, BTW. Oh, that is absolutely terrible about your son. I sure hope he will be ok. Oh, good. I'm glad he wasn't as bad as you thought. Sorry, reading as I post.

Thank you for posting the links on the chicken feed.
Raiq, so sorry to hear about your furnace sitch! That must be really tough with 2 little ones.

At least it wasn't colder out.
Cind, I'm glad your guinea showed up too. And that's one wonderful DH you've got there. But I'm certain you already knew that.

Amy, congrats to you & Deb for the new woodburners! Mmmmm, stew sounds divine on a chilly eve. Cute pic of the boys!
Wow, nice bird cage, Jim. I can't guess why the birds aren't fighting. Can they even find each other?

DH & I were planting a few trees & bushes today, and doing some last-minute winterizing of the chicken "area". What a nice sunny day today. I'll be cleaning out the coop tomorrow, before the game starts, of course.
One of my PRs, Myrtle, seems to be feeling under the weather the past few days. Those hybrids just are not bred for anything other than utility. They are 2 1/2 & are already past their laying capabilities. What a bummer. Oh well. Live & learn.

Hope everyone gets to enjoy the beautiful day tomorrow!

Not going to post much... MUST get to sleep so I have daylight to work!

The guinea is back but I didn't get a good look at him at roost time. Today I saw his right eye is VERY swollen! I brought him in and put some antibiotic on it and put him in the hospital cage. He's got treated water and I'll look at it tomorrow. Didn't see any blood or other marks, at least yet. Well, back to finish wood then bed!

Night all!

Morning! Cant believe I am the first to post....nice to be up this "early" I went to bed at 8 last night I was so exhausted from the day...never did get back on to post. Carol and I decided to ride today...looks a bit more cloudy but it is certainly still warm from yesterday...puter says 48 but the porch says 42.

Must be all that cement in town making the heat rise.

So yesterday I got the coops stapled together for winter. I put feed bags over the chicken wire parts to keep out the drafts and plastic over the windows. I havent stuffed insulation in the cracks yet...that can wait a bit. Got the door redone on the barn and some of the coop's wet parts shoveled out, the garden is half torn up--hoses and tomato cages out, and I finished the duck fence! My "to do before winter" list is getting down there! The next thing is a door for the top of the steps, finish the garden and then on to the house stuff!

Thanks for the links to the mash recipes and stuff...I might try making one of those treat blocks with the gelatin. I bet they would devour it! Ken I believe that you arent supposed to use grey striped sunflower...dont remember why but it is the BOSS that is recommended even for wild bird feeding. I know there is something in it that makes parrots get addicted to it (the striped variety) dont know if that is why for chickens or not. (Crack for chickens?)

I wonder if I could freeze the brussels sprouts right on the stalk? That would be pretty much the same thing is having them outside right? Just a more controlled temperature...maybe I will try with one. Until then I guess we eat them every night!

Suppose I oughta get to it...have a great day! Terri O
