Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Hi all!

DrH...
"And I used up some of my good stuff! "

Were you thinking of good little pieces of wood? Like the kind I was forced to condemn to the burn pile?

I was thinking the next time I need 10" of 1x6 I should go and buy an 8' board and cut 10" off and tell DH that just cost $$$ to do something I could have used my "scrap" for!!! Hope you get eggs soon!

SusJ.... Even if the eggs freeze (though unlikely) they would still be OK to use, they just might be a little "runny". Many of the eggs from the stores have froze at one point or another.

It's one of the ways they have lots of eggs at Easter time.

Easter Season is the very last time of year to buy store eggs!

Jim...
"what you have to do to get them to lay, is give them the impression that a trip to the deep freezer is eminent if things don't improve."

Almost every time I put 'em to bed I tell them what the quota is and if they don't do their share it's the stew pot! I'm thinking of putting up posters of chicken dishes to make 'em think about it!!!

Cool you got the electric don in the coop! DS2 has to come and finish mine!
I made pancakes this morning,, I used 1 turkey egg and 8 quail eggs.. 2 of the quail eggs were double yolkers.. the pancakes were nice and light.. I had to put a sausage pattie on top of the stack to keep them from floating up to the ceiling..

Was it the turkey or the quail eggs made them so light?

TO... like the leaves idea for the coop.... problem is I can't rake!.

I know what you mean about not wanting to sell to some people... when I had the Pet Shop there were people I talked out of what they came for because it was obvious that they couldn't handle it. Not good for business, but much better for the pet! You ate 10 eggs in 1 day!!!

kee... cool pics! Love it! Evening gowns, and chickens! A caption for the 2nd pic.... "Don't eat me! Don't eat me! Please don't eat me!"

CC... Glad you got so much done! I seem to be so far behind!

FT... All in all sounds like the farrier went well.

Not much to say... youngest son came over and helped DH finish hauling in wood for the week and stacking up the rest of the pile that wasn't stacked yet.... AFTER I hauled 2 loads in myself!

The neighbor came over to say that this was the last day for our K-mart and stuff was 85% off! I didn't want to go when young son was here so I went when he left... got there just in time for them to lock the door in front of me!

The neighbor got a dryer for $65!!!!

Oh well.... night!

Good Morning Everybody! Thanks for all the help with the naughties! Oh I've done all kinds of mind games with them. FT wrote down the worm drug and dosage heading to FF on Friday. TO Going to try eliminating the treats. Laura thought of that too, she brings leftovers home from work daily. They certainly are not skinny chickens Jim maybe that's the whole problem. Too fat! Layer feed and cracked corn on the menu from now on. Paula I've given them the finger many times but will try it your way.

I've read about measuring if memory serves it's the distance between the vent and their pelvis. I'll PM you after I see if all these suggestions help or not. Thanks! Never did rain yesterday but in anticipation of it decided to fix the right side brake on the Ford. Turned out to be just oil soaked, took it down to the car wash and pressure washed it then used carb cleaner on the pads and washed out the drum. Having brakes is a real bonus around buildings, vehicles, and highways! Both of the adjusters were froze up but had been spraying them with WD40 for 2 days and now they both work. Hoping to get back in the woods today would really like to get that pile finished. BFF wants to come out today to shoot guns so don't know how far I'll get. Pack is predicted to put another one in the win column tonight!

Another nice day!

Good morning! I am having a late start today...slept until 8:20! I was having a dream about butchering chickens (imagine that!) This weird guy kept coming onto the farm (I lived somewhere else) trying to buy two different flocks of birds that I was raising for my neighbor. I finally got my gun and threatened him with it...then one of my rams started attacking him and so did a cat
hmm.png
All this while kids were catching chickens to butcher. Even that sassy Ancona was in the dream (and I killed him) The health department guy came then to chick something...man it was a weird dream! Funny how your mind works things out when you are asleep! I connected everything in the dream to something except the health department part...maybe that is to come?

The sky looks pretty heavy today...kinda like snow! It is 41 though...says it will be getting sunny? Rain tomorrow...HMMM.
Glad to see some "long lost friends" pop in! Good to hear from you! (AACKK! Thought my post went POOF! but I got it back using the back button
celebrate.gif
) You can keep the snow BL4! I would just like the mud to freeze here!
Good work on the brakes DrH...glad you could fix without replacing! Always good.
Bummer on missing out on the K-mart sale Cind! I didnt know that they even sold dryers! Why is it closing? They build a Wal-mart nearby? I never really liked going to K-mart...I like Shopko much better! Seems a little higher quality.

I cant believe your bill was so cheap for the farrier FT! 11 Animals? That would have been about $400 for me! I am glad I only have to trim 5...which reminds me; I need to call mine to come out too...except I dont have any money to pay him right now...and he doesnt accept eggs for payment!

Speaking of trading eggs...the lady in town that makes curtains said she would barter for eggs and she could sew me some winter shades! I have the insulating curtains that I was going to make into shades to keep the heat in...never got around to it so I think I may take some measurements and find out if it is doable! Gotta conserve where we can!

Guess I'd better get to it! Getting chilly sitting here! Have a fantastic day! Terri O

Good morning folks.

once again time got away from me and I've had no chance to get on and get caught up on what everyone is up to
sad.png

After the birth of the baby my client went into decline and I've been working my regular day shifts with her as well as overnights. Today I'm a bit of a zombie as I can't fall asleep.... overtired and emotionally drained. I was up at 5am on Saturday and ended up working with her from 4pm to 8 am Sunday and managed to get 3 hours sleep before returning at 10 pm last night (filling in for another girl). She passed away at 3:24 this morning and I'm thankful now I took the shift despite how I feel at the moment.

I've decide 3 or 4 days off are now in order before I accept any more assignments and that will give me time to try to get caught up and see how everyone is. I just wanted to take a minute before I try for the second time today to get some sleep.

Hope everyone is well.

Deb

Oooh, my hands hurt so much from all of the winterizing the last few days. They're peeling and cracking and...owowowowowow. On the plus side, everything's coming together really really well. I've got the feeder and waterer made, the window on, the corrugated roof on the nest boxes, the roof put together (it's waiting for the liner to dry before I staple it on), and the new dust bath done. Feels good emotionally but he!! on my hands!

Afternoon Everyone...busy day here too. Cut the pines up today that the snow knocked over. Got it piled in two place, some to dry and some to split brfore adding to the drying pile.

Doc the Fords are known for lousy axle seals. You will need to replace the seal to keep the oil from leaking onto the breaks. Here is a link for some help.... http://www.ntractorclub.com/howtos/pdfs/Servicing-9N-2N-Rear-Axles.pdf

Hope
this helps you out.

More to finish outside...my break is over. Maybe you had a sherry dream TO?

good early afternoon,

Deb, sorry about your client..

Annie and my daughter do homecare.. Annie has a scrapbook of all the people that she was with that died.. Obit clippings.. I call it her "Book of Death".. after 30 years, it is quite thick..

Dr H, I have been thinking about adjusting the brakes on the Oliver.. I just never think about it unless I am driving it.. then I can't do it, and after I am done driving , I usually forget about it until the next time I drive it..

I went to the dentist this morning.. He adjusted my teeth.. I had a couple of high tips on the bottom tooth that was putting excess pressure on my upper tooth.. He basically "floated" those two teeth.. said the pain should go away by Thursday.. I am supposed to call him with a report..

I took my grandson to a job interview..I dropped him off and he just called.. Annie went to pick him up.. I asked her if he got the job.. she didn't know, but said he sounded happy.. that could be either yes or no, depending on if he wants to work or not,.. eh?

I told him he would have to take a cab to work.. he said that would be expensive.. I told him that it is still cheaper than owning a car..

nope that's not the right check, what you need to do is check the space between the pubic bones, just under the vent on either side. also check for lice, not just in the vent area, look under the wings and under the chin. and do your hens look peek-id (spelling) what about mites those are a bummer to find, they hind in the cracks in the coop during the day and suck blood at night and infestation of those would stop laying, little teeny red dots the size of a pin head
