Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Happy Fish Fry Friday All... Yep it worked mag. Nice pics thanks for sharing.

Tonight it's home made salmon pattys with ho made fries. I'm gonna serve those on some big garlic hard rolls with lettuce and home made tarter sauce. The fries are so good that I'll prolly skip desert tonight.

Only a few of the hybrid birds are running around outside today. Seems like the cozy coop is the space of choice today for most of the flock. Sure is nice that the shortest day of the year is behind us and we are gaining a little light every day again now.

Hope you enjoy the northern Jim....that's fish as good as it gets, in my opinion.

Later... bigz

babylady- Thanks, Bandit is a really good dog. He's 3. We have a Lab too, Boomer.

Thanks for tellin me how to post pictures.

I got a little carried away

Ahhhhh, I sure wish I was closer to you, BBP. I would definitely love to buy some of your lav, or black, orp chicks.

Magnolia, just so you know, Tyler at Purely Poultry doesn't have any chicks/chickens at his location. As Bigz said, he's just a middleman who orders from hatcheries and then just ships them on his customers.
As for getting carried away with posting pics, we say "nonsense". We love to see pics that everyone shares here. You have some very cute puppies.

And congrats on ordering your chicks. Chicken math awaits!

Thanks for who ever was saying to try perch and bluegill like shrimp, I was just tell DH so we are looking forward to trying that out. One thing we did a couple weeks ago was shrimp cakes ( instead of crab), we did them as a little appertizer when we had some friend over, they were good.

Cleaned the coop and put a couple bales of shavings down, so it is a about 8 inches deep this time. So do you just throw a couple hand fulls of cracked corn down everyday to keep the chicken pecking around?

A few day ago I bought one of those scratch blocks from FF. They don't seem to be hitting it very hard yet, but I will keep you posted.

We are headed out tonight to hear a band in LaX, hopefully miss the crowds since most people will go out tomorrow.

Evening all!
Just got caught up on the reading!
Everyone here is fine/ I got 9 eggs today! Not to bad.
I forgot to tell you guys that after I got done with the chickens yesterday morning, I went into the kitchen to wash up the dishes and DH was yammering about something. In mid yammer, he stopped and asked me what was wrong. My reply was" There is a calf eating the Elder Berry bush." Yep, The dairy had an escapee and she was pruning my elder berry. Just as I was going to dash outside to let them know at the dairy, the Township truck comes along. They guys slow down and get out to try shew her back over to the dairy. All I can say is:

LOL!!!

My neighbor came over last night to ask me what happened to Zeeva when she got hit. Apparently he know something was wrong when she ran into the milking barn with her ears down and was spooked. He took her home and she just went into her crate and looked shocky. I told him what I knew and mentioned if she is shocky it might be a good idea to get her to the vet. He left to go call them. I saw him briefly today with no Zeeva (or his other dog Dusty) but I did not get the chance to ask about her. Dusty might have either been home or with the cows, but Zeevie is usually with him. I'm hoping to be able to talk wit him tomorrow for an update.

Cind- I'm sorry for your loss of Duke. I'm glad he is finally at peace.

TO-Did the ever find that guy that fell into the river?

DrH-How are your hands holding up? Are there nose prints on your bator window yet?

If anyone is interested, I'll be ordering chicks from either Welp, Ideal, or Privett (probably Ideal) sometime in April or May. Depending on the weather. If any one wants to go in on the order just let me know. I'm in Southern WI near Janesville, but DH is a sales rep and drives over a good portion of the state. Wausau is about the farthest North he goes but he also gets over Milwaukee way and over to Richland Center and we can always set up a meeting spot. I also don't mind meeting up with people either.

Good evening! Took me quite a while to read everything to catch up! Glad everyone is doing well at this year end! I had a long day of cooking with stuff turning out less than perfectly...oh well. I didnt get any complaints from the people but I like to have things a bit more organized when serving...I totally forgot to put the beans in to cook so they had to wait for the entree. Most of the people arent bad but there is the usual table of the b*tches to deal with! The men's table stayed for quite a while...I think they were waiting for me to bring out the champagne!!!

SO Cheryl, you said
if you pair the wheaten girl with a blue or black rooster you would end up hatching chicks whose colors are not a recognized approved color and would be considered EE's.

Would it work the same way pairing black or blue Am hens with the Wheaten guy? Just wondering what kind of mess I would get if I put all my Am's together!

Jim that method for the perch sounds great! We used to have poor man's shrimp all the time. What we did was take slices or cubes of mozzarella cheese and dip it into shrimp sauce. If you used your imagination it tasted pretty much like shrimp! How is the dog doing? Did you figure out a new name yet? I kind of liked Nora...

No guineas sleeping in the trees now! I think the worst offenders all got eaten and the only one that doesnt go into the coop took up residence with the blue Ams. Even all the turkeys are inside tonight...maybe we are getting a lot more snow? It was nice with the 2" or so we got this afternoon...I was able to use the ice fishing sled to take the feed down! It is not hard to do that way even though I had 3 trips down and one to the house! I can put about #300 on it at a time and move it easily down the hill. (dont get in front!) All the birds know what the bags mean...it is hard to get around them sometimes!

Kristip--your solo looks like a pullet to me too! YEah! She is very pretty!
Mag--I liked the pics of your dogs! Bandit is adorable! I hadnt ever heard of that breed. It looks kind of like one that I see in town...a shortlegged border collie!

You can post as many pics as you want! We all love them here! Speaking of pics...I FOUND my camera!!! Yup--all it took was mopping the floor! It had fallen down between the counter and the cabinet. I am so glad! I was really missing it.

Today when I went to the mill to get feed Elliot (my dog) put her feet up on the counter and looked like she wanted to make an order!. The woman at the desk whipped her camera out and got her picture. It turned out cute! Just her head and one paw were on the edge. I think she was listening to the printer doing my receipt....

Well, I think I am going to make myself some popcorn and go upstairs and read...I am positively beat! My eyes are closing as I am typing....not as bad as FT with her dddddddddddddddd repeaters she types but nearly!

Everyone have a good night...these cowbell sounds on the football game DH is watching are giving me a headache! DrH...did the table show up right? When I tried to send it as an attachment my computer got all screwed up so I sent it that way. Mine was cut on the left side...I will change it to a PDF tomorrow and try again...

(PS) Mags--I have a LF fav roo and one of his sons...I think it is a son anyhow...odd looking birds! I dont know what the females look like.

Happy Almost-New Year's Eve. I can't believe it is practically Jan and we have NO SNOW here. Sure makes things easier taking care of the flock.

I did pick up some Tylan50, the EE got her last dose tonight (3 days, right?) and she is looking better. Yay! There are 2 more with just a little sniffle, so I got them too so it doesn't turn into that full-blown respiratory explosion. So thanks for the tips guys!

I was going to chime in HR, that furnace price was exactly what we paid to upgrade our old house in 2008. We did all new gutters while we were at it, tack on another grand.

Real sorry about Duke, Cind, but it was his time.

I think it might be best that he went at home; they are always more mentally comfortable on their own turf. i never had any dogs that actually liked going to the vet, anyways.

Just finished making a double batch of candy cane fudge...

An old boss of mine used to say 'A moment on the lips, forever on the hips.' Yup, that's about right.

yes TO- my understanding is that you have to keep like colors with like colors to produce pure recognized and accepted colors- all other colors are considered EE. Hope this helps!
