Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Sounds like it's going to be a mighty yucky weekend weather wise. All of you going out to celebrate the new year, please drive safe. I'm staying home (typical for a hermit) so one wont find me anywhere but probably here on the forum.

I agree anyone who is going out please be careful!! We will be home as well just hanging out with our kids and watching movies and watching our incubator- they are due to hatch Jan 1st but some always come early. DH and my brother are just finishing up the snow route- wet heavy sloppy and with the temp dropping it would freeze into a mess. Hopefully we won't get more snow over the weekend.

From my weather reports (have a weather station here in my office), looks like it will be rain first, then some snow, then very strong winds (up to 50 mph gusts) and then its all suppose to freeze creating glare ice under what snow has fallen. The wind will drift the snow and out here where I live, that means zero visibility (lots of farm fields).

wow that does sound nasty, they are talking about some rain and windy here but we'll see what tomorrow morning brings. Sounds like the guys just made it back and are putting equipment away. DH watches the radar very closely and has gotten quite good at determing when to head out!

I was watching the radar this morning. Decided to haul in some fire wood, then ran over to the parents and filled their wood bin as well, just in case things get nasty. I then double checked their generator so if the power goes out, they wont be in the dark, nor freezing to death. I guess some extremely cold weather is suppose to surface come the beginning of next week...ah January, where Eskimos thrive and Chihuahuas freeze

Hi all!

Jim... I got my motors mixed up... step motor is a small motor used in electronics...it's also called a stepper I guess. I'm thinking of the one that has a" trani" or something to get get 2 speeds at 2 strengths....grrrr! I know what I mean... can't think of the words!

I do remember one thing.... I officially have way too many roos for my hens! One of the young roos ( one I got from you Jim) was trying to get himself "some" and after either being rejected by the hens or run off by other roosters.... he "nailed" a young cockerel! You should have seen the look on the poor little guys face!

He just sat there stunned so long I thought he may have killed him!!!!

Ok...sorry I'm not responding.... hand kinda tender.... Night all!

good late evening, went and played cards.. got home about an hour ago and have been reading ever since ..

I kept hearing peeping and noises in this room.. I checked in the hatcher and did not see anything.. then I checked in the bator.. yup, there is a pipped goose egg.. but that did not explain the noise I heard.. checked in the bottom of the bator and there is a gosling running around down there..

His parents are still not comfortable with the new dog , yet.. the guineas have settled down pretty well,, the peacocks just don't give a d@mn one way or t'other..

I have a hen turkey with a lump below her eye, sort of more in the area of her ear.. Annie wants to lance it.. I am not too in a hurry to do that.. It doesn't seem to bother it..

Yes CC, someone on the OF thread seems to like making outlandish statements.. the only problem is he believes he is always right.. and we all know that he can't be ,, because I am..
at first I thought he was a young man,, now I am beginning to think it is a smart A$$ kid..

tomorrow I think I have to thaw out that Northern pike and clean it.. I would much rather have pan fish..

I have not heard any weather reports, but when I just came home it was clam and not too cold out.. we have had no snow or rain for awhile..

we are going to stay at home for amiture night.. got to rest up for Packer Sunday anyway..

Good Last Morning of the Year Everyone! Yup jim if there ever was a night not to go out this is it.

selling roos this morning! AAACK--I wanted to sleep in and DH came up and said that a guy was in the driveway....it was the man from LM who I owed a roo to. I was wondering when he was going to come back. I didnt have any change the last time he was here and he said he would come and get him in a week...that was almost a month ago. In the meantime I had thrown another roo in that pen that was being not so nice to the hens and fighting...I had been planning on keeping him but now he will grace someone's New Year's table! I was surprised how heavy he was when I caught him up!

We are meeting friends for dinner down the street at a bar that has great food. The special is steak and lobster for tonight and I am really looking forward to it! Then we go to their house and have Margaritas and watch the ball fall on TV. Her daughter will be there with some friends and maybe her son and his wife and baby...we play games and get goofy. The college kids are fun to play games with--they have such a different perspective! We have been going there for New Year's for LOTS of years now! I remember we missed one when her daughter had chicken pox and I was pregnant with dd19! My doctor advised me not to go. Man, that seems like just yesterday and it was 20 years ago...where does the time go?

DrH--DH says you are an "eternal optimist" thinking that it will be warming up "soon." I think we will be paying for this really loooong fall and have snow falling at the end of may when I am trying to get my garden in! You know I put a cloche over my cilantro and it is still growing? I picked some the other day to add to a tomato dish. It is still good but didnt have quite the flavor that the hot sun gives it. The kale is still OK too and it isnt covered. I have been picking it for Rita and Clarence the tortoises. Trying to give them some variety...store lettuce is so boring tasting!

I am going to make a Cocoa Cheesecake to bring along for desert tonight. I wont be able to eat it but I am going to try and make a crustless one in a ramekin for me...it might work! At least I will be able to have something for desert!

I guess I will go and check out the OF thread to see what you guys are talking about...I havent been on there since the day it was reinstated. I think you are right...some of the oomph has gone out of it for sure! Everyone have a great day and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
Be safe! Terri O

ETA: Thanks for the info Cheryl...I was hoping to free up another pen! I guess not, at least until I get some hatching eggs!

BBP, what do your black splits look like? I don't know if I've ever seen one.
Do you have any idea what your hatch % is of hens to roos on the lavs? I honestly don't mean to sound picky or petty, but I'm only looking for 4-6 chicks, and with my luck, I'd wind up with mostly roos.

And since I'm a woosie (not the butchering type) and don't have the luxury of letting my birds free range, I'm a little "chicken" when it comes to straight run. But I am really interested in your offer. The pics you've posted of your orps are just stunning.
love.gif

Would anyone else down here be interested in any extra orp roos if I get them? TO? I could throw Moose in the deal.

How about you, FT? You just love your roos, don'tcha?
