Rocket isn't alone anymore. Little Dipper has come home with us. It (hopefully she) is a 2 wk old brown leghorn bantam. There's a lot of introductions going on downstairs. Who knew chick intros were so LOUD?!

I will get a pic of Little Dipper tomorrow I think. Let her be this evening. She sure is cute though! I got to see some very pretty Marans at HR place too. Now I hope some do hatch out of the classroom projects!

Hey CC... Have some more Sangria, why don't you? I really wanted cake though...

Wow, Beautiful !! I don't see to many of those. I see more sunsets !! Right Cind !!!
I see everyone is catching hatching fever !!!
To bad everyone lives so far apart or you could all go in on an order !!! I've been PM'n someone that has spoke very highly of Cackle hatchery's chicks. Says they get their eggs from some top of the line breeders ?? Don't know if it's true or not ?

Oh I am SORE! I fell on the ice AGAIN today! It is so weird cause I will be walking very carefully and then WHOOP! Down I go...fell on my knee and hip this time, of course it was wet and full of sh!t where I fell...now I am in my jammies! The clothes and my jacket are in the washing machine! I sure am glad I got the contractor's model of cell phone! It was face down in the wet!
I got all the feed moved and the hay unloaded and straw put down in all the coops...WHEW! Now I am trying to decide what to make for supper..I think I vote omelets!
I got the hen and her chicks penned up for Bigfam to pick out a chick tomorrow. That hen sure was hard to catch! Finally I just put the babies in the cage and was going to catch her when she came down from the loft...well those babies called her down all right and then they slipped right through the bars of the cage! The went under the pallet I just put 1500 pounds of feed on!!! It was sunk into the hay on the floor so I couldnt reach them. I opened the door and the hen went in...then she called the chicks back! Sure am glad they listened. I had to refill the water and the food cause she FREAKED when I locked her in a cage! Yeah...I dont have tame chickens! (only a few)

Here is what I found when I came in the house:

See, I dont have to heat my incubator...it is cat powered! I brought up another thermometer today; thought I could calibrate it and then see if the other one was off...yeah right, it only goes up to 120*! How in the world would I calibrate that? Seems kinds silly...it is a laboratory thermometer!

Well I guess I should get the mushrooms going for the omelets...I think I will do potatoes too...Later! Terri O

Ha! I laughed out loud three times while reading this post and my hubby says "you know that's just rude... Laugh out loud about stuff when I don't know what it is..."

Poor TO... Sopping wet and covered in sh*t! No fun at all. And the chicken story... Babies in then out... Momma in... The whole story was great! Now I get to use my feather sexing powers tomorrow! Well see if I'm right...

I absolutely LOVE the kitty incubator!!! They have even caught hatching fever...

I saw a gorgeous sunrise the other day on the way to work... too bad I was driving and could not take a picture! It was during that cold snap, the sun was making a sun column and the ice crystals in the atmosphere were creating little arcs of rainbows exactly 90* on either side of the sun column..... beautiful!

TO, you can calibrate that thermometer. Take a glass thermometer and stick it in a glass with a LOT of ice and a LITTLE water. Stick the thermometer to be calibrated in the water and adjust the reading to match the glass thermometer. This is how we would calibrate the Milk hauler's thermometers.

Let the ducks out to play in the puddles out in the yard...... goofballs hung out by their pen and played in the micro puddle by the back steps instead of splashing about int he giant pond in the middle of the yard! Weirdos.......

Only news to report here is that I possibly have my job back at the UW. Long story with that one but I loved working there and have no problems helping out.

That's all folks! Say goodnight Gracie!

Evening All!
Happy Birthday CC!!! Hope you have a great one!

bf4-congrats on the new addition!

TO-Love that hen! She sure is a nice looking girl!

Elaine-Good to see you again!!

FT- Can't say anything about the lines Cackle gets, but they are a great hatchery. I've used them for years and have never had problems with them. They have nice healthy chicks and they are easy to deal with.

Well, we got a new microwave tonight. A white Kenmore 1200 watter with turn table and a popcorn sound sensor thingy. DH wanted that feature.
Looked at Refers and got a change to look at the Whirlpool I liked. Should not have done that! It was sure a nice one. I'll have to read reviews on it.

Well, I'm going to go harvest my virtual crops and livestock on Farmville. At least there I can grow crops in winter! LOL!!

good evening, not much to report here. found the pin holes in the bottom of my old metal water can. patched the holes with JB Weld. It is better than super glue.
I have an egg eating chicken, one of the Thai hens. she ate at least 4 eggs yesterday.. I did not catch her today. but there was one empty shell. As soon as I single her out, we are having chicken soup..

I spent a long time today putting all of my photos into folders. Now when I go looking for a photo,it is narrowed down to a few instead of hundreds.

There was a feature on "How It's Made" last night about hatchery chicks. I taped it. It showed how they feather sex the couple hour old chicks. I have to watch it a few times to see exactly which feathers they use..

Tom,I was going to send you a photo of the table type plucker, but I must have deleted it..

I have my pages narrowed to fit the screen. makes reading a lot more pleasant.. and makes typing a reply nicer too..

who knows , if I live to be ninety or more, I might get this computer thingy all figured out.

there was a funny thing on tv last night on Jimmy Fallon. He gave a list of books to not read.. One of them was "You can build a chicken plucker" .. he had a funny remark about not ever having the urge to do so,, or something like that.. I am published in that particular book with a tool I invented to help assemble it .. ..
