THat is crap about those eggs CC! I guess I will just have to candle mine today to see what I have now...;thanks a lot! Sounds like the roo was shooting blanks where Bigfam got those eggs! I hope the Marans are better. No sense in incubating infertile eggs is there? Although my cats sure do like it! THere were 4 of them laying on it yesterday afternoon! I dont get how they can make themselves so small!

Not my fault! Antsy-pantsy Bf4 & FT made me do it (candling).

Don't be silly. They are your eggs, your chicks. You did me the completely selfless favor of letting me have some, and for that I will be eternally grateful.

I just hope they both hatch out & survive. Having a single chick in a brooder is gonna suck. I even put one of Mooses eggs in there with the lavs but that one was a clear too. What a time for him to miss.

I saw someone on CL was selling some lav eggs a while back up in West Bend. Maybe I can get some from her & give you some or hatch them out for you? We'll both get our lavenders, sooner or later. Then you, me & FT can have our own little WI lav club.

Speaking of which, FT, when are you hatching out some of your lavs? Inquiring minds want to know.

OH CC... YOU POOR GIRL. You didn't know this, but I am VERY bossy. Quite annoying actually. And I get my way. So you WILL be getting some chicks. I will not have a singleton at your house. No Way!

Hi Cheesies! Haven't checked in for a while, and I do miss this thread. Been spending a lot of time on Etsy now. Will try to pop in more often, the hours just speed by and before I know what happened it's midnight...

Chilly this morn, until today haven't had to thaw the waterers for a while. We're so spoiled this winter aren't we? The broodies are starting back up, goofy girls.

Terri, or anyone else, do you know the typical lifespan of Coturnix quail? My two little hens started laying, molted, layed good again, now seem to be taking another break (all in 3 months time.) Wondering if they're getting 'old' already!

Ya know CC--We can just trade for a while and then you can have him back! I just want to get a few Doms to compliment my B&W theme! It certainly does not need to be for ever. I figure I will end up with a few roos so I wont "need" his services any longer. Lord knows I have enough roos around here anyway!

It's ok Terri. I told you that you could have him & I meant it. I never really planned on getting into breeding, but between getting my first broody & then catching the hatching bug, I'm now hopelessly addicted. Now I would really like to concentrate on Aussies & orps, so Moose doesn't quite fit into that picture. Besides, I now have 7 of his striped offspring, so I really don't need him. I would like to see him bred with other Doms anyway. He has such a wonderful temperament, I think his genes should be passed on to other Doms. The only reason I got him in the first place was because my sis received him in her order of bantam chicks. Whoops!

And if I wind up having a bunch of roos in these chicks, you can have them for your B&W theme too!

We are going to candle the eggs tonight when it gets dark. I will keep you posted.
It wasnt too bad doing chores today. The sun actually felt nice and warm! So Amyable, do you have your quail outside still? I think we got ours pretty much the same time. Mine are inside and have layed all winter. The girls are starting to get a bit beat up from the boys though...After I get more eggs for the girl to hatch at the Sunday school I will have to eat them I guess....I hope they are good cause I think it is going to be a lot of work! So, Your question of how long they live...I think about 3-4 years is what I heard.

I am so hungry for something but no idea what...dont you hate that feeling? I think I have to take a look in the cupboard. Terri O

Afternoon All!
My it must have been miserable yesterday! There was a lot of chatter here and a few old faces stopped by!
Sold 15 of the Gold Star pullets today so that leaves just 5. Some for me some for Troll. I can finally but them in the coop at get them out of the chick tv. I will have to wait until Monday since it's so cold. Don't want to shock the little house chicks systems going from nice climate controlled digs to the cold cruel outside world! LOL

bf4-my chick tv is a 75 gallon fish tank. I had fish in it but with our water being so "wellie" and all I, had to buy filtered water. Cost way to much so got rid of the fish. Debated on what to do with the tank and finally turned it into a brooder. I have a nice stand for it and I got a metal mesh screen lid (for reptile tanks) on it. I set the brooder lamp at one end and feed and water on the other. Depending on the age of chicks, I will switch the wattage on the light bulb to either all more heat or less depending on how the chicks act. I love the tank as a brooder thing and wish I had a more room for more tanks.

CC-sorry to hear about your eggs...that's a bummer!
