Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Welcome To Winter All... Holy frozen waterers... Went to my grandaughters 6 year Birthday Party today. They sure grow up fast.

Enjoying a huge bowl of 7 layer salad...that's a meal by itself, however I also have a big venzun sausage sandwich with onions and mustard....delish if I must say so. Suzie made a 9x13 glass pan of 7 layer for the party...it came home empty...folks loved the bacon in it... glad she left one pan here for me.

I'm thinkin it was in fact dooner CC. Hope it all works out well.

Amyable....What's up with that? Hope you make the bash again.

Later.... bigz

Hey all--quick update. Just candled the eggs. 3 went out and 5 are developing. We even saw movement in a few! I think I tossed 3 or 4 from my breedings too. Not fertile...now how in the world can that be! I certainly dont have any fat roosters around here!
Well my friend from Thorpe just called and she is having dinner down at Aztalan so I am going to go out there and see her. Havent seen her is many years...I bought my first horse with her! (and took over her 4H club!)
Later all--Terri O

My call duck eggs are developing. Not surprising since the drakes have been very busy. Now I just have to get the little suckers to hatch. I lose a lot in the last week :(
someone brought a HUGE egg into work today. His special black hen layed it. He had it weighed at the post office and it weighed out at more than what he found the world record to be. He's getting the paperwork to try to get it in the record books.

Cool! How much did it weigh? Was it a chicken egg? Good luck on the call hatches...what did you lose a lot of in the last week? Eggs? My calls are not laying yet but I did see them mating today for the first time...unfortunately I have two males that were supposed to be girls! Doesnt that just figure?!
Good night...time to get the coveralls on again...Terri O

I lost my Dad on Feb.2 what can I say. He was a wonderful Dad, Husband, Brother, Son and Friend. Everyone who knew him felt that way. He was 90 years old and ready to return to Gods arms.
I thought that deaths always came in threes. Well Dad was number 4 for DH and myself.

I miss talking to all of you and read a few days of posts. It sounds like your doing well and trying to keep warm. What a winter ??
I can't wait for spring. I now have DH convinced that we need a Roo. Maybe this spring. If there are a lot of extras maybe one will find his way here.
Stay warm and hugs to all of you.

The duckings die in the egg. It's real depressing. Usually the ones that do hatch do so because I help them. I think it may have to do with their short neck and small bill. They don't seem to have the stamina bigger ducklings have either.

It is the head size in relation to the rest of the body. The chick is literally trapped inside the shell and is unable to zip. I have had the same thing happen MANY times, it is so disheartening to see the fully developed baby peeking at your from the hole it has pipped but yet it is so still.......

Close to hatch time, I will go out and monitor the pipping process, if the baby has pipped internally for over 24 hours, I will break a hole in the shell for it if it has not done so already. After so many hours I will check again to see how much blood is in the veining of the membrane and try and decide if I should begin to help the chick zip out (I do not want to rush this since the baby is absorbing the yolk). I am usually outside with a tweezers and a high power flashlight so I miss the critical blood membrane and only help with the shell part. That seems to do the trick, but sometimes I am not fast enough at releasing them from their prisons.

The new 3 gal heated waterer from Fleet seems to be doing its job, and since it holds more water than the old one, I am not out there every day refilling it!
