Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Thanks guys, the house is in Sheboygan co.

Great thing about this house is it has a chicken coop attached to the 3 car detached garage! So I can get chicks right away without having to wait until DH builds me a coop! Woot!

FT) when I prep my blueberries soil I mix in a good dose of coffee grounds. Makes the soil more acidic. They like a soil ph around 4 I believe. Jim is also right in adding pine needles, that will help with the soils acid level. I just dont have any pine trees in my yard! So whatever will lower your ph will be best.

Ugh the littlest one is super whiny this morning. Don't know what his problem is. Can't wait until he can talk.

I got back from the Fur and Feather about an hour ago. If any of you were there I did not know who you were.

I was hoping to get some used feeders and waters. No luck. Lots of bantams and duckling this year, some rabbits and a few people brought goats. I spent $10 on raffle tickets. Thing were pretty much done by 9:00, some people were closing by 8:30, guess they sold out. All in all I came home with nothing!

Guess I should have saved the gas.

Incubator question. For the last 2 weeks the temp has been right at 100* (maybe 99) anyway, yesterday late afternoon my son's friend cam over with her 12 yr old. When I checked the temp at about 10:30 the temp was up to the high side of 102*! I KNOW someone was putzing with it because the little tubing I use to get water to the bottom was pulled out.

Thanks.

Hey egg hatching question....

How has your luck been with shipped hatching eggs? I was thinking of getting a few sets as I have an incubator and thermo, and it would be neat for the kids. I just wanna know everyone's success rate. I see some lavender orps with my name on it...

I PM'd you!

Hi folks,

a quick break and catchup on the reading,

FT from what I have learned about the blueberries,,,,first year simply dig a big deep hole and fill with regular peat moss (not pH corrected) this will add the OM you need and help hold moisture that needs to be constant the 1st couple of years. Provide water regularly,,,,maybe once they take off a very light app of that fertilizer but don't do it after mid July,,,you don't want new tender growth going into fall

best thing is send some soil samples to a lab ASAP,,,,,our soils up here vary and any advice given without actual lab results can prove worthless.....that goes for anything you grow actually
Pine needles will make a good mulch,,,,beware of voles hiding in it though

MidWest Labs out of Omaha does a great job, fast and reasonable rates

Moved the 6 wk old Marans to the new cage/pen,,,settled right in and seem to enjoy having a view,,lol

Afternoon All!
Got up early and got my chores done to got to the Walworth Swap. It was small and like Cind said chicks, ducks and geese. Oh and goats. I was going to see if I could find a buck but no luck-there were no breeds there I was interested for what I was looking for.
I did meet up with H&R and her Fam and that was fun to see them again! They are so awesome!!
I'm thinking nest time I got to a swap I'll have to carry a BYC sign! LOL! Then we call all try to find each other!

After that, on the way home I stopped to get rabbit food and then lunch. Went to the dump and completely forgot my gas can to get feul for the lawn tractor. *sigh*. I'm being remiss in mowing down the dandelions....

I think I'm going to juggle rabbit cages around before the storm. I'm waiting on Dh to get home to help with that chore!

Other then that, everyone is fine here.

Raiq-That is a great home! Good luck with selling your house!!! As far as shipped eggs go, I can only tell you that the last few times for me have sucked. No hatches or only one or two hatching. I have had much better luck in the past but usually between 40-70%. Depends on how far the travel and how they are handled through the USPS. I don't spend a whole lot on shipped eggs because I never know if I'll get a box of scrambled eggs.

Cind-I wish I could help....I'd say they got cooked? but Jim might be able to give you an answer.....

Cindlady they should be fine. Mine spiked at 104* when I first used it, but it wasn't there long enough for the eggs to cook on the inside. Just readjust, which could take hours

And tie up that little snot the next time she comes over.

I'm all done reading now!

Yup Jim that was me beepin! Whens Nora due? Cind Let em go and see what happens. I took a sharpie and made a mark on the thermo. Ya nefer know. Hopin Donny's eggs are alright was gonna tweek the heat up a tad before leaving and forgot 97* when we got home. We'll see. Turner comes out Wed. Think they'll be fine like Jim says the hens don't sit tight until the end. TO you are correct that Peaches was a PR roo and Peatwo is a second generation but he is whiter and after his molt he has very little color left in him But I still love him!

I was told by an old timer that pine needles were the way to go for Blueberries. He swore he grew them as big as his thumbnail. And he had big thumbs. Had a great time up nort ! Not much for fish but wasn't expecting to catch any. Laura did get the nickle for the first fish, about a 5" perch and I got a 15 1/2 walleye. Dang near killed me to put it back. I was lookin at it and droolin, a little tear formed in the corner of my eye as I slipped it back into the water. He was pretty excited to see me though he milted all over the place.

Youngsters have no self control. Just glad someone is touchin them! Depending on how my hunt goes we might be going back up for the opener. Always nice to go up for the first time and find that everything made it through the winter OK.

Going to the in-laws today to celebrate Easter... I made GF bread in the bread machine, I was skeptical when I added the GF flour (it smells weird) but the house smells almost just like baked white bread! Then I made a chocolate cake with a secret ingredient: ground up chickpeas! The ingredients are very simple; the chickpeas, 4 eggs, 1 1/2 c melted chocolate chips, 3/4 c sugar, 1 1/2 t baking powder. I added vanilla, a few T melted butter, 2 T dark cocoa powder, and 1/4 t salt. It is in the oven right now but it looks just like a regular chocolate cake. I'll let you know what the verdict is later on.

Raiq; my only experience with shipped eggs was not great. A lot of broken air cells. If you are willing to meet someone someplace to pick up eggs I think I would go that route.

Time for a nap..... a 20 minute one anyway...

I am all for beating that kid like a rented mule.. from now on, lay down the law.. anybody touches anything that they are not supposed to will never come visit again.. unless it was a really long time, your eggs might still be OK..

DrH, it was an easy cheap shot,, I passed on it earlier today.. but no harm in taking it.. right FT ?

I would rather take a licking than try to hatch USPS eggs..

You should be able to find some mutt eggs within driving range .. maybe luck out and get some nice eggs..

I got all but 5 sides of my drawers cut out an planed today.. I will get back out there and do those 5 sides and then start the dado cuts ..

I took 22 chicks and 2 turkeys out to the brooder this morning.. at first I separated them, but then I thought, what th' heII, let's try putting them all together.. went off without a hitch.. GOOD, now I have only one water and feed dish to fill instead of two.. still waiting on a few late hatchers.. whatever doesn't hatch by the time the next batch is due will be tossed,,
