Was walking throught yard yesterday by the coop and this is what I found. It was weird had an oldies station on and This girl is a woman now was playing.

Earthy, all ducks need is a water source deep enough to clear their nostrils. They do not need to have pools or rivers and the like... but they are SO much more fun to watch when they can swim!

DH came in to tell me that a duck and a chick hatched today !!!!!

I didn't set them until late in the evening for the April hatch. The chick is from an EE mom and either a lavender Orp dad or an Australorp Roo. It's dark so I think it is from the Aussie. Three more of the same EE eggs, 1 which is pipping and 30 more Duck eggs to go !!

They are runners and possibly pure Rouen or Rouen/Mallard or Rouen/Runner or Mallard/Runner. Chances are they are 99% Runner since I have about 17 Runners and only one Mallard Drake and one pair of Rouens in there.

Oh and I have one of two goose eggs pipping !!! It's either a white or brown chinese or combo of each. Got it from the guy I got the trio of Sebs from. So I guess there is a slim chance it has some seb in the mix but I don't think so.

These are my first ducks to ever hatch and my first Gosling to hatch too !!!!

I may have missed it. I'm really not looking but if they would have been adult hens I woiuld have been interested.

And get out of my head! I've been thinking may be I should get a nice breeding pair of Gold Laced Orps to go with what hatches out. Where are you getting yours from?

I think the 29th of April ? I wrote the date on the eggs and just looked at them about 1/2 hour ago but do you think I can remember !!!

I'm headed to the store to buy some higher watt light bulbs. My mallard ducks are looking cold. Their 90 watt bulb burnt out and I only had 40s!!! I swear I have higher then that but ????? Geez !!

So I may as well hit the grocery store while I'm at it. Tomorrow I have to ship out some paint eggs I sold and some guinea eggs I owe someone from the egg swap.

Oh and did I mention that 7 of the eight muscovy eggs I got on the swap are fertile and developing nicely? So I'll have some new lines to my scovies.
