Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Just found out my cousin has changed her wedding location from Chicago to Baton Rouge! Our side of the family is all in the Chicago area; his is on the West coast..... who does she think is coming to this wedding????

I looked into Amtrak tickets..... 6 people round trip = $1054. So I thought, maybe round trip airfare would be cheaper??? HA! 6 round trip tickets to fly would be $2400. This does NOT include rental car OR the hotel stay (or meals, gift, clothing purchases, etc.....)...

Does she think we all won the Mega Millions or something? I believe the attendance at this wedding is going to be very low...... who can afford this??? Oh, and I forgot to mention this the weekend before Halloween???? So a bunch of kids get shafted out of Trick-or-Treating????

My kids were looking forward to this wedding too. I was planning on taking them on a tour of the museums in Chicago, make the whole experience delightful.

OK... I read the post but got distracted when you started talking about bantys.I realized I hadn't seen Jasmine for a few days!

Either something got her or she's brooding somewhere. I guess I'll take a trip around the yard tomorrow.... so many places to hide!

Anyway, Final count is 19 fuzzy butts! However I set 41 so that's less than 1/2

#19 keeps rolling over backwards and sits like a little Buda. We'll see. 2 zipped and didn't make it out and there were 6 others that were OK at day 10. The others I couldn't tell, they were too dark for what I had for a light.

Sorry for not responding much tonight... very busy and wondering about Jasmine... BTW she's the hen w/chick in my Avi.

Night All.

Cant sleep so I will chat!

BL4 Love that dress. Too cute!

In my coop we have banties and large foul together and no issues. I have a rabbit hutch in the run for the silkies to climb into at night because they would not do the ramp to the big coop, but my favorelle and a banty cochin go up with the big girls. Although I do have a GLW that climbs in with the silkies. My roo(actually 2 now that I had a sex change silkie) is a silkie and mostly sticks with the silkies so no problems with him. I like the mix if you can do it.

I had a banty Turken and she was OK with the hens, she even had a buddy at roost time to watch over her. However, I think the LF roos did some internal damage to her. I guess it come down to "ya' never know",,,, every flock is different.

Can't sleep either... sucks, I have stuff to do!

Good Morning All! Hope all that are hatching and bating have at least as good of a rate as I got this time! I owe it all to Jim's instructions. The % increases with each bating session. Set 26 eggs and 19 hatched this time. Checked the duds and 4 were only partially developed and 3 never pipped. Could be any number of reasons for that. But the last 4 chicks are in the brooder and will be moved to Donny's this morning and THE STINKY BATOR IS OUT OF THE HOUSE!

Now I can get back to work

Bigz that sucks about your fertility rate. Young roo? Bf4me that bator should have been taped from day one! It really really helps. Cind betting Jasmine is sitting on a clutch.

Are we still on for Sat.? Putting the back blade on the Fiord and going down to fill in some spots in Donny's driveway by the barn that I didn't do last year. That'll be fun! Then back to mow the yard and get my fishin stuff together for tomorrow. CC I'm thinkin that's where that egg came from but it could have been one of the older hens too. The chicks were a big hit yesterday at L's work. Had around a doz people that stayed after excise and a couple came in just to see them. Had some silly ?'s about chickens but the one that stuck with me was Did that little egg come from one these chicks? I was very tactful which just about killed me. The lady that wants me to be a pallbearer at her funeral told me that she wants a chicken at her funeral. I promised her that my finest bird will be there. Now that's a chicken lover!

Jim, I do not think we will be attending this wedding. Only if we win the lottery before October!

I know that the rest of my family will not be going either (mom and siblings + families). Nobody can afford to get there.

ok... hope I did the right thing but wanted to check with you experts here..
So we had 7 chicks that are now 3-4 weeks old that were in a brooder tote they were quickly outgrowing. And I have momma hen beauty the silkie with 2 EE crosses under her that was in a dog kennel that the babies were starting to jump out of. They are just over 2 weeks

So I had moved my big babies into a kiddie pool with an xpen around it and a top over with heat lamps in our garage. Spacious and they love it. I wanted to see what momma Beauty woudl do if we tried to move her and her 2 babies in. So big girls were in for a few days and then moved Beauty and babies in yesterday. Seemed ok at first but then Beuaty started nipping at all the chicks, even her babies. Her babies were very interested in the big girls and wanted to play with them which ticked off momma. After a few hours of her spooking all the chicks, I took momma and babies out and put them back in the kennel. Momma wanted nothing to do with the babies. Still nipped at them. So left babies with bigger babies and put momma back in with general population.. Hope that was the best decision.

argh... tricky chickens!!! And so many are looking like roosters from the hatch with Carol... really need some girls here!
