Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Good morning! Just one quick thing...Ken I would leave the older one in until the rest are ready! It is not a good idea to introduce just one bird.
Now I have to get to work on this house! I was supposed to call my BFF for "phone cleaning" at nine! Geeez...that sounds bad! LOL! TErri O

Morning all!
Not much going on here! Everyone is good and Emster is all better! He is back to normal and doing Emmitt Things! He is stil on 3 types of AB's twice a day though....I have to give him his pills this morning yet....

Was at the doctors yesterday. My Cardio and my Pacer Docs. It's nice to see both of them on one trip! Got an all clear from both but my Cardio doc did add baby asprin for me to take "due to the age of my valve". So I have to go get baby asprin today. I almost bet dh a steak dinner that Doc. Igic my pacemaker doc was going to tell me it is time to change the unit out, but nope! He said probably another year to a year and a half! I still say it will be before then, but hey! I'm not a doctor! LOL!...Good thing I did not bet that steak dinner...I would have lost!!

Well, Im going to go give Emster his pills
Later peeps!

ok... hope I did the right thing but wanted to check with you experts here..
So we had 7 chicks that are now 3-4 weeks old that were in a brooder tote they were quickly outgrowing. And I have momma hen beauty the silkie with 2 EE crosses under her that was in a dog kennel that the babies were starting to jump out of. They are just over 2 weeks

So I had moved my big babies into a kiddie pool with an xpen around it and a top over with heat lamps in our garage. Spacious and they love it. I wanted to see what momma Beauty woudl do if we tried to move her and her 2 babies in. So big girls were in for a few days and then moved Beauty and babies in yesterday. Seemed ok at first but then Beuaty started nipping at all the chicks, even her babies. Her babies were very interested in the big girls and wanted to play with them which ticked off momma. After a few hours of her spooking all the chicks, I took momma and babies out and put them back in the kennel. Momma wanted nothing to do with the babies. Still nipped at them. So left babies with bigger babies and put momma back in with general population.. Hope that was the best decision.

argh... tricky chickens!!! And so many are looking like roosters from the hatch with Carol... really need some girls here!

You done good.. now you can expect an extra egg a day..

Ken I would wait too.

Jim I asked you a question lol I would like to see your incubating directions if you would please.

I was thinking this morning of asking BL4 how Im I supposed to know when to stop turning these duck eggs (cause IDK how far into incubating they were when I put them in the 'bator, mama was sitting on them) Then I remembered that I already know the answer, DUH, when the eggs looks "full" lmbo DUH right.

so if most of the answers to our question on byc are not answered correctly or what we read is fiction....... should I even go else where to ask/search for an answer to my question or just ask it here? LMBO
my question is the same as FT, what humidity should duck eggs be at during incubation? days 1-18 and in lockdown??
later all
I gotta go check my checking account, if it says that I have money I will be ordering tshirts today.... if not I will order them on Friday lol
Tshirts anyone going...... 3 times? lol

good morning, I am so caught up on my chores and have a batch of pancakes mixed up just waiting for customers.. working on my first cuppa.. two turkeys eggs are pipped.. I think I will transfer all 12 of the eggs to the hatcher..

Ken, at 6 weeks your chicken should be street smart enough to go in with the big guys.. try it and watch for a few minutes.. you should be able to tell soon if things will work out..

I have a turkey staring at me through the plexiglas door.. I better get her out of there and transfer the rest of those eggs..

real chicken fights happen when the new chicken seems a threat to one of the flock.. otherwise it is just the pecking order in action..

DrH, If you are passing by here, and you have too many crappies,,, I know how to clean fish..
hint hlint

BL4, don't make me have to put "just kidding" in my replies..

Jim's refresher course ,, replies 101. I do not add LOL , or just kidding in my replies.. You have to figure it out ...

something I found in the incubating thread.........

I either use my Brinsea Octagon 40 which sits on an auto turner and the whole incubator turns side to side, or my hovabator genesis 1588 and hand turn. If hand turning the eggs are on their side. If in the Brinsea the eggs are air sac up. I keep the humidity around 35%-40% the first 23 days. I dont add any water to the incubator, only mist, and it stays around 35-40%. Around day 4 or 7 I start cooling eggs for up to 15 min per day, and mist them with water during that cooling period. Day 23 I stop turning and bump the humidity up to around 75%. I hatch them out in egg cartons with the sides trimmed down and holes poked in the bottoms. I use the paper cartons. They hatch on day 26-27.

REALLY?? what the h3ll would THAT do? would they even cool off on the inside?

ask your questions here before you take advice from the general population of the BYC..
we ( or at least I ) will tell you if they are full of sh!t or not..

If you have only duck eggs , run at about 50% humidity.. If you have chicken and duck eggs, run at 40% to 50%.. at hatching 50% is OK if that is as high as you can get.. 60% is better, I have hatched them successfully at 40%.. I found that ducks are very active hatchers.. Geese on the other hand still give me fits.. I am with Earthlady ,, geese should do water births.. I am letting the geese hatch all their own eggs this year..

I need your email addy to forward the instructions.. PM it to me if you want to..

It is a silkie... so figure an extra egg a week.... maybe 2... oh well, the kids adore them!

was just nervous that they were only 2 weeks or so old, but if she is done, she is. Feel bad that I prompted her to be done by putting her in with the other older chicks. Oh well, it is done. easier for me to have all chicks in one spot!
