Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Hey guys... Della my Delaware might be egg bound?? She has been sitting on the nest all day. So hot for her!! So I finAlly said no more and pulled her off. She had a white bag hanging out of hervent. Looked like an amniotics sac almost. She was fine yesterday. I don't know if that even is a sign of egg bound?

I brought her in and gave her a bath. I saw all sorts of bugs swarming around her back end. So now she's wrapped in a towel getting pets for a bit. (wet chicken does not smell good btw).

HELP!!!

Vicki, that price for DE is outrageous! Fleet Farm has 40lb bags for $12.

Twiz, that does sound like an albino raptor.

On a field trip in ornithology class our group spotted one, and my prof was so excited, they are really rare!

DAS, you do not have to apologize for posting your kitty pic. I'm amazed yours catches snakes! I'm very glad 2 of 3 cats are home. Thanks very much for the well-wishes on our wanderer. I'll let you all know if he ever shows up.

BigFam, never had an egg-bound one, but I did just cull a hen that I suspect was an internal layer. Her abdomen was huge, and there was a bigger-than-a-softball mass inside her with yolks and layer upon layer of whites. It was awful, hope yours is not that and recovers.

Summer Day Here....good advice Amy....I'm one of those never pay more guys....I suppose you are feeling good with a private beach, eh!

Up early and had the tiller/cultivator going by 6:30 getting the last of the before a break done. Doc...

hope all is well in nekoosey....

Sad day here for a funeral tomorrow....I'll keep it short, but why in the he!! would you end life because you were told that it's time to retire at 68 ? It's the whole life that the guy close to us had going, what about the survivors ....selfish, numb...what the heck? He had everything one could want and more than almost most folks could wish for....In the Name of God...the merciful One..have mercy.

Stay safe... bigz

ok ...hopefully someone can help me... I am going to post on emergencies page too... I have one chicken with heat exhaustion. I took the hose and carefully put the cold water and rubbed it on her (thought just cold hose might be a shock)
what else can I do... would bringing her in to AC be too much of a shock.

She can hardly walk and I saw her tumble over a few times. Panting. Tried to eat some mealworms but kept missing and did not really want to open her beak more than a little. I was at work so had put out some frozen pumpkin this am and lots of fresh water, but just got back to tending them at 5:30 when I got home.
any thoughts?

Maybe wait until a little later to bring her inside? In the meantime, can you put her by a fan to help cool her down? Putting water on her will help too, or a cold, damp washcloth or towel to lay on. Give her plenty of cold water to drink. If you have any electrolytes, add those to the water. Just try to keep her calm & quiet, then bring her inside & keep an eye on her. Maybe give her some chilled canned fruit or applesauce (something with lots of liquid). I wish I had better advice. Good luck!

Thanks for the link!!!:) I'm pretty sure it's an albino redtail because it has an orange tail.

Candled the eggs in the bator today!!! So far so good, only 3 that appear bad.

TO, here's one that we got from you:) The embryo was moving when I took the picture off of my cruddy itouch haha, sorry for quality!

BigZ - Sorry for your loss, I'm sorry.

Kristi - Sorry no help here, I do hope your chicken is feeling better soon.

Good evening everyone. Well it wasnt near as hot as I thought is was going to get. Our high was 83 today. Not sure why since people below us and people above us seem to have had 100 degree weather today. Weird. So far the crew seems to be doing fine with the heat. I have 2 kiddie pools refreshed every morning and I ran the sprinkler a bit today. I put a tire swing up for the kids today, it was a hit :) I also weeded half the garden. It looks like half my plants never grew now that the weeds are gone. I swear I am going to read read read about gardening. I know this is only my 2nd year trying to garden ( well I did it 1 year about 5 years ago but we had black dirt and I really didnt have to do anything, it kinda just grew on its own), anyway I need to read up on gardening. My plants are tiny and minimal. There is a place not far from here that sells dirt for $7 a pick up truck load, I think I should get a few loads once this years plants are done.

Oh and how tall am I suppose to let the potato plants get before putting dirt around them? I keep adding dirt but they are growing really tall.

Well I guess that about it. Nothing much new happening here :) I hope everyone has a great night.

hi folks,

lucked out on the temp today, the humidity left and we had a nice wind, even at 85 it was nice, till/cultivated 15 rows and watered the taters b4 8am,,, raked 34 acres of hay at noon, the boys got it bailed,, one field done

Apyl, potatoes grow above the seed, the more dirt you add the more taters you get,,,when they start to flower you're done pretty much for new formation. That said now is also when the taters need the water for maximum production,,,,you can skip the adding more dirt and mulch heavy with straw or hay (if you find a farmer with hay that got wet b4 bailing you can get it for cheap,,,,or free from the field)

Bigz never a good scenario when those things happen, sry for the loss

Tomorrow a road trip for a memorial, another on Sunday, waiting for the 3rd to drop (pun intended)

Finally found electrolites locally, all the chickens got "smart" water now, seems it kicked up the hormones in these **** roosters, the worst offender is a cripple OE, friendly as hell to me but nasty to the boys near him.

keep cool
