Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Someone called me today asking if I wanted to buy her 10 yr old mare for $500. Only problem is she's pregnant! And she bought her 4 months ago at an auction so has no idea what she's bred with. Now, the chance is slim but what if a mule pops out of there? I needs myself a mule! I went and looked at the horse today and she ignored me. She's not in your pocket like my horse. I really didn't care for her. But they did have a 5 yr old mare they were selling that was pretty lovey. Too bad she's 5 and greenbroke. Because that coupled with my inexperience would equal a major disaster.
Got Pictures?
That's a shame that whoever brought it to the auction didn't know who it was bred to. If it would pop out as a mule it would be worth more then a horse. Mules are nice. Bit different to train then a horse but nice. And not as hard to train as a donkey. Bit less stuborn.

So are you looking for another horse? I can keep my eyes and ears open. Like Wcc said there are a lot around. And they'll only get cheaper the closer and closer we get to fall and winter.
Remember you can't ride the color, but it doesn't hurt to have a pretty horse too !!! lol

I am kind of looking for another horse. The one we have now is just too big for my 9 yr old at 16.2 or 16.3. The trainer told me two different measurements. Eiither way he's very tall. The mare yesterday was a black quarter horse. She was nice enough, probably what a good horse should be. Not invading personal space constantly. Her hooves were freshly trimmed and the vet was just there to examine her. They said at least 30 days till she's due.

Good Morning Everyone! My foray into the garden to finish weeding is on hold because... drum roll please. IT'S RAINING sort of, small cloud. Hope it's enough to save the black raspberries! They looked good yesterday but they need a serious drink. Yup FT those look like happy ducks! Hope ET goes back full time real soon!

Can't remember what I read either. Think the heat is making it worse than usual. Ya that's it. Think it's done raining, didn't even make it through the trees.

Better let the kids out.

Good morning folks! I'm laying here wishing to beans I could still be asleep.: at 6:18 I had one child in here, at 6:40 I had another child in here, and at 6:45 I have another child downstairs. Dumb kids... Sleep in for Pete's sake!!,

Della is doing better. Heat exhaustion was part of the problem I think. But no eggs from my 3 layers right now. Poor girls... Too hot.

I has an Australian Spotted duck hatch last night! There is another internally pipped. I Only got three out of 16 to this point. Heat spike in Bator while in Minnesota did most of themin. I guess we'll see if these three hatch....

I bought a new coon trap at FF the other day. I got a BIG b@stard the first night. My hubby said 50 lbs. so minus the fish tale mentality of a man, I'd say it must have been 35-40. I set the trap right by my mini coop to catch him. Last night I set it right by the ducks kenel. Caught a momma. I came out to check the trap last night and there were 3 teen coons around my mini coop, a fourth hiding by the ducks, and mom in the trap. SERIOUSLY have a coon problem here!

Oh oh oh! I got a free, yes FREE, bunny hutch yesterday! A friend of mine posted on Facebook that their bunny died. So she said just pick it up it was mang Tom sad seeing it. This thing can be a great brooder! Or an excellent chicken hospital! Or a broody momma house! Its a bit rickety, so unless I want to rebuild it to make it coon safe, it's going in the garage. But still..., so excited! I'll post pictures soon.

Ok that's it for now. CC, I'll wait on the cage until I get a visit from you and Steve. I'd like to see what he's like in a non drinking environment ;);) He is easy on the eyes though... :D Oh and I want to see that beautiful bike!

Good Morning!

Just got back from a week long Brook Trout camping/fishing trip up North. Had a blast and limited out everyday - Sometimes twice a day
hu.gif
Got to LOVE fresh brook trout!!!

As usual, I've been lurking and not posting - My life doesn't seem as interesting as everyone Else's ..... LOL

Question about storing eggs for incubation... It's gonna take me about 4 days to gather 24-30 eggs for the incubator, what's the best way to store them before I start the process?

When's the next bash ????

Morning all!

Got half the AM chores done. Critters are done but the garden and flower beds still need to be watered.

DH is reading the online newspaper from the county we used to live in back in Cali. The county has no money so one of their solutions is to cut back senior meal programs to almost non exhistance. Grrrrr. That really chaps my hide. Those poor people. Many of them rely on those meal programs for at least one meal a day. Grrrrr.....

DrH-Raining!!!!
ep.gif
I'm so jelous!

FT-Is that GRASS!!!! in your duck pen? I forgot what it looks like....So pretty!

BBP-I agree with FT. There are a lot of horses being dumped so wait. Ask your trainer for assistance. She probably knows of some horses that would be better suited to your family then a pregnant brood mare or a green broke 5 year old. Honestly, I would avoid her and get a horse that your son can ride, learn and grow on.

Well, best get myself gone. Finish up the morning chores before it gets to hot to move. When will we get snow???!!?!?!?!? Come in snow!!!

Here, this might help us to keep cool!:

Good morning folks,

hey Tom, good to see the post. Now you made me wonder why didn't I fish early this season,,,,lol too busy now

from my reading keeping the eggs around 55-60º in a turner is best,,,,no turner then rotate or in cartons with a block under the end, move the block a few times a day

FT, no I don't sell hay, I work with a friend they have horses and cattle, they use 5-7,000 sq bales and all the rounds for the beef
check around Argonne,,,lots of hay over there,,or all those fields near where the swap was??,,,heck of a lot closer than Merrill but for those low prices maybe worth the trip,,,hay has been min of $3/bale here for the last 4 yrs and that's off the field, then again this is good mixed hay for the most part

another hr in the gh/gardens then today is chicken project day

Jim I found that info and emailed you the link

this town is a freakin circus this year with the mid week holiday,,,,,businesses are happy, natives are hiding, perfect tourist weather

Morning
frow.gif

just popped in for coffee
caf.gif
and a quick catch up before I start weeding. My sweet hubby filled his big tank from our little "pond" (use term loosely,
wink.png
) last night and is already outside watering the gardens. Boy, what a keeper
big_smile.png
. Have to get some weeding done before it gets too hot. Can't get anything done tomorrow. It's roadtrip time to my Onc in Greenbay. I really hate the long drive there and back but he is such a great dr. and the clinic so wonderful it really is worth the trip but it pretty much sinks an entire day. Oh well, supposed to be hot again and at least our little car has air
smile.png
.

My big black "girls" have been doing fine and laying well but they say the humidity is supposed to go back up. They definitely didn't like that last time. Started them on "worming level" DE in their feed yesterday. Didn't really show any signs but since I was able to get hold of Red Earth DE and a couple of the girls didn't seem to be regaining their health as quickly as I would have expected, I figured, why not? That is the other thing I need to do this morning. Clean the coop, dust with DE and spread it in their wallows. Not seeing anything but I have one hen who seems "itchy" and her feathers still look a bit "tattered" tho shinier, and not growing back as quickly as expected.

Any additional ideas from all of you very knowledgeable "poultry whisperers" is always greatly appreciated!

Have a blessed Sunday and a great holiday week everyone!

Hi Unkadan

And praying some idiot doesn't set us on fire,,,, again. Last time was 4 years ago 4th of July and cost us 300 beautiful, hand planted, 15 ft. tall red pines hubby and I put in as a property border and windbreak between us and our southern neighbor. At least the wind that time was in the right direction and kept it away from the house and the DNR did a great job keeping it from reaching our woods and the 1000+ acres of county/state beyond. (got right up to it and everything was super dry that year
ep.gif
) The wind did shift toward the house but by that time DNR + fire crews were on site and nothing else (at least for us) was lost. Neighbor lost some beautiful huge old pines that lined his driveway and the fire burnt right up to his front steps! The idiot's insurance company did deal fairly with us at least.

I love black horses !!! Then remember she'll have the foal at her side. Not much you can do with her while she is caring for the baby. That is a tall horse you have. That's as tall as my spotted drafts. Bet if you put an ad up on Craigs list explaining what and why you are looking and guarantee an excellent home (we'll vouch for ya) you'll get tons of emails. Glad I wasn't looking for a Quarter Horse. There are Sooooo many to choose from, I wouldn't be able to make up my mind.
You might even want to look at getting a Haflinger. They look like mini belgians and they can carry adults and they are from what I've seen 14 hh at tops. Very unusual to see them any taller. Most I think are around 13hh. I love them. A plus with them is alot of them are broke to drive too !!!

Now you got me wanting to look at CL. LOL not like I don't already but just to see what's out there. Have you ever looked at www.MWT.com or www.MWT.net ? Mid West Tel. That is where I posted a want ad for a spotted draft and a man called me and told me about his percheron/morgan cross, my black mare Queen. She wasn't for sale but he saw my ad and she was his only horse so he thought he wasn't using her that much. Got her, saddle, bridle, buckboard wagon (AMISH made).

Speaking of missing in action, where has Tomski been ???? Hey Tomski you're a grandpa again. Just hatched out another lavender Orp from your hen. It's slow going with only one hen and one roo. Watch out though this fall I'll house all of the other chicks I have (from the mail and two from MI) and ours and I'll be in the Lavender business !!! LOL

Ok time to drink the coffee that's sitting in front of me. Think I might call and see how Cody is doing tonight. I'm sure they are busy during the day today.

Ooops, should of read before I posted...... Hi Grandpa Tomski !!!
