also, I found a stray cat by my house today. My husband says he saw her carrying a gopher into the weeds the other day. His theory is she has kitten in there. I'm going to trap her and have her spayed if she's not bagged up like she's feeding little ones.

Another Good Morning All! Cind I had that run door board cut, primered, and painted ready to go then things got in the way. Scratched enough things off the list to where it was IT'S turn. Was just thinking this morning that maybe I'd get a green treat and skip all the painting and waiting. But then it wouldn't look right with all the rest being white. IDK. Meatloaf was excellent! Think I'll take the foil off for the last 10 minutes to get it smokier next time. CC was watching the leaves falling here too. The crab trees look like it's late fall. TO good luck at the fair! Carol and Cind hope you get that part of your life over soon! L is pretty well through it now. Jim glad you got a ride both ways sorry you didn't get what you wanted. Have a couple that does stump grinding around here they call themselves Stumpy and Twiggy. It really fits them. Raim is her "popes nose" bald? That's what my self proclaimed good christian ex MIL calls it. The coop door blew shut yesterday and when I went to open it one of the black hens went screamin by me flew up on the nest boxes then down on the bar and into a nest. Express delivery. Didn't make it half way back to the house and she was singing. Fun knee! Had a weird response to my CL ad no return E mail address. Think it's a scam. Posting on CL was a lot easier than I had envisioned. Maybe FT is in the pokey? Headlines read. Limping naked woman covered in feathers attempts to steal horse!

No it said she was wearing a One-One when they saw her HOP on the ATV with stolen horse running behind !!! lol You're Bad Doc !!!

Back from Lake Mills!

Terri you are a Godsend, thank you thank you thank you thank you...... and Big Fam; thank you thank you thank you!!!!!! My yard is soooooooooooooooo much quieter!!! I was luckey enough to spend a great day with my girls, we did hit the Johnson Creek outlet mall and have a good time wasting time.... left around 4:30 and made it back home by 6:45.... not too shabby!

Jim, if the police take my birds, they are not taking them to the local shelter. They will just kill them and be done with it. My fault for having them illegally. I am trying to remedy the situation the best I can in a way that the city will allow it. All I can to is try to change their minds and get the ordinance changed.

BigZ, I would move in a heartbeat if we could. Right now the banks are so tightfisted with their money it would be amazing if we did manage to get a loan. We would have to sell our house first. Right now we would be hard pressed to find a buyer willing to pay what we need they to pay in order for us to have a substantial down payment for another property. We have foreclosures all over town and houses available at Sheriffs auctions; why would anyone bother going through a Real Estate agent?

We could sell our house at a loss and rent out of town, but I really do not want to lose all the equity we have built up in this house with all the work we have done. My sister just had her house appraised in an attempt to refinance their mortgage... the assessment came in 3k short of what they needed, and they have made that house look amazing. There is an adorable house just 3 doors down from me for sale for under 100K, why would anyone pass that house up to buy mine for over 100k???? (What I need to have a big enough down payment).

The whole situation is a catch-22.... danged if you do and danged if you don't. I wanted to be out of here years ago but the recession really put a giant crimp in our plans...... so here we are..... stuck.

My oldest DD is checking to see if her BF will take the ducks temporarily.... if I do not get the ordinance passed we will find a permanent place for them. I would still stay on here though.... you guys are the best!

How can you dunk them completely under and not risk them sucking in water?

I think maybe I will give one more try at talking my neighbor out of some eggs. She has two roos, each with their own flock. The young one has hens from the same place mine came from. With her roo it could be an interesting mix. hmmmmmmmmm.

Why not just give her some infertile eggs if you don't want chicks. It will make her happy and after she has sat for 3 weeks so so she should abandon the nest. I let my birds go broody with no eggs, they will eventually come unglued to the nest.
I did however let some of my broody hens sit on eggs and now have chicks hatching !!!
I found 10 guinea keets that have just hatched out in the tall weeds with two hens sitting on them and two males guarding over them (which is how I found them in the first place two days ago)
Looks like they are all mostly pied. I love my keets.

I would love to get some different colors some day. I have a few that have a very light sky blue coloring on them. Not pure, just mutts but gorgeous.
Jim so are you going to just have the whites and purples then or ???? Do you still have lavenders? Just curious. What does Marlene have?

So sorry to hear about your ducky situation.

Let me know if there is anything I can do to help out. And if worse comes to worse your ducks could come here.
Not a bad idea though to set us something in the basement. Who would know if you brought them outside for a playtime. I'd keep a vari kennel in the backseat of your car and if you get caught just say they are visiting and then load them up in the kennel and drive off. Smuggle them back in in a beach bag or shopping bag and come home with the carrier empty.
Some day the whoever did the complaining will get whatever they deserve. Gotta believe in Karma !! What goes around comes around. Hopefully you will be in the right place at the right time to see it !!!

Yes the housing market stinks for a seller right now. My duplex in Racine isn't even on the market. I should have sold it for a big loss years ago instead of a huge loss that I will be taking if I sold now.
In my next life I'm going to be born rich instead of beautiful !!!!

Easy does it, Jimbo. Nothing a few deep breaths and a few brewskis won't cure.

You do bring up a great point. Strength in numbers. In the few town meetings I went to, it seemed that whomever brought the most neighbors in favor of their side of the story was the one who won over the town board. Bl4, your kids have friends that come over to play with the ducks? Ask them to talk to their parents about how cool the ducks are and that the town wants you to get rid of them. Maybe the parents would speak up if their children asked them to? It wouldn't hurt to ask. All they can say is no, right?

In the short term, try to get some people to go before the town board to persuade them to let you keep your ducks, or at least get an extension. But for the long term, I'd work on getting the ordinances changed if I were you. If Milwaukee & Madison allow people to keep poultry, a small town certainly should also. Good luck!

One of Mooses kids decided to go broody in the middle of that heat wave last week.

What timing.

For 3 days, I kept pulling her out of that nest, but as Cind said, they're attached to it like a rubber band or super glue (MLH). Finally on the 4th day, when it was 110* in there, sense finally returned, or she just couldn't take it anymore, and she stayed out after dragging her out, again. I am so glad she gave up on her own. It was just too crazy hot out to be sitting in a coop. I didn't take a real good look at which one it was, though, and now I'm kicking myself. I wonder if it was one of Alice's kids? I have 5 Dom/Aussies: 2 are Alice's & 3 are from Ezmerelda (I know this because they have her tail. It is very distinctive). They also have her sassy attitude. Mini Moo is one of her babies. Nuf said there.

CC if I would have thought about shooting a video of Terri bathing her chickens I would have done it while we were there! Sopping wet from head to toe! She even enlisted my daughters to chase down and catch her chickens! Not that they minded, they had a blast finding all the little chicks that were running around....

Rose seems none the worse for wear.... her face and comb look like she had a bad case of acne but no big gashes and her eyes are good. I fixed the pen better so the others can't knock over the gate. Sure wish I knew what happen.
