Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Tried to get to the next page and they said the site was down!

So I had to go on FB and chat with folks!
Yes we got some rain at last! We were eating in the restaurant down the street and the wind was blowing the rain horizontally! THe manager was walking around asking folks if they drive a Kia...I guess I tree fell on one out in front! What a bummer! (we parked in the back)
I am very tired now...DD20 said my horse is shivering outside...and a tree fell near the pasture. Guess I better put my headlight on and go and take a look...poor guy!

I hope no one else had too much damage on their property...I am glad for the rain but I dont care for the wind! There is still much thunder and lightening going on out there...

Sleep tight--sweet dreams too! Terri O

Well praise Jesus we did not get rain, just a High Pressure front from Canada that gave us a nice cool breeze and temps of 70 with humidity in the 50% range. VBS is going well, lower attendance this year, just in the 30s as opposed to the 70+ from last year. Pretty good for a church that only has 30 in attendance on a Sunday Morning.

The ladies have dropped their laying rate down due to the weather, they have never seen a string of highs like this before. The meaties are plumping up since they are on meat maker ration. The new chicks are doing well and getting bigger already.

We played softball last night and won and played tonight and lost. I went 3 for 4 through both games and had a homer with 2 runners on. Now I am paying the price and applied blue lotion to my shoulder. Yep you read that right Blue Horse Lotion for sore ligaments on my shoulder, I feel the aches roll away.

Welcome to all the new guys, if you ever make it up North you will experience the REAL Wisconsin.

Later,
KEN

It's raining, it's pouring (lightening, hailing, thundering), my old man is snoring.

He's not so old (but is snoring), a whopping 36 isn't bad, huh? I am glad that a good chunk of us are all getting the well needed and long deserved rainstorm. But now we will have to think about mowing (once the grass comes back to life)

Thanks for the comments on my first egg everyone! DH (aka old man) and I debated what to do with it. He wanted to eat it, I wanted to finish off the store bought eggs first. This way it will allow me to enjoy the thrill of getting the eggs first, then I can have a meal of them.

My hen, Stella, (that laid the egg) was intermittingly(sp) squatting today after laying her egg. It seems like what I can only relate to labor contractions. She will be moving about, then suddenly she'd be squatting and tense with her wings slightly spread. Both times that I saw her I was able to get close and pet her. THIS NEVER HAPPENS! She has always run away, even as a chick when we would come close. And forget petting her, she will raise a fuss! I assume that she is just getting used to the sensations and her body is attempting to regulate its laying cycle, right?

CS if you were close to her when she squatted it may be because she thought of you as her rooster and was squatting for you

. After you petted her on the back did she shake? That is a very cute explanation of what she is doing.

BBP thats rotten!

That would freak me out finding one of my critters legs in a bucket.

bl4 sounds very promissing.

Cind, how about a cashier position at a 24 hour Walmart or Pick n Save? I am sure they would give you a stool so you could sit for a while & stand too. And the 3rd shift can't be too busy.
hu.gif
I know what you mean by them not hiring much lately. Our Walmart laid off a lot of people a while back, but lately I have been seeing some new faces.

Bl4, congrats on finding a temporary home for the duckies!

Terri, just wait. Every year those darn Jap beetles multiply like crazy. Then you can kiss your plum, cherry and crabapple trees good-bye. They will have them completely defoliated in no time.

Is that new horse of yours out in the rain? Can't he fit in one of your barns? The poor guy.

Twiz, sorry to hear about your SLWs. I'd be kinda ticked too. I bought 3 lav orp chicks a while back and all 3 of them are roos, so I kinda know how you feel.

Cs, congrats on the egg! Good girl, Stella!

Mlh, you never fail to crack me up! Great jam recipe.

Nice pic of the nosey chicken, too. Wow, the Bubster got a lil chubby, didn't he?

BBP. so sorry about the ducklings.

Now it's time for bed. Sweet dreams, all! I'll be dreaming about more rain!

Loving the rain, but not so much when I was driving home from Milwaukee in it. Almost tried to find where Terri lived! Had to pull over for a while right near lake mills area. Kids thought it was fun, mom not so much! Had a fun day at the zoo with my nieces and nephew and my kids. Wore my dear old mother out though. Came home to the lovely rain and saw we had one of the young coons in a trap.that is number 3 of 4 young ones, and then to work on their mom too. Had one not so smart bird (my chanteclear, tinker belle) sitting on a perch in the rain. Everyone else had gone in a coop. Crazy bird. Oh well. Hoping production is up and after my week in Disney... My 18 week old teenagers will be lose to pol. Ow old are some of those with pullets that are starting to lay? Give me some ope it is sooner rather than later.
I know the silkie will be a while before it matures...how are large fowl Cochins? Cheryl... Do the bantam leghorns usually lay early or later in maturity. Comb is small and pink... Don't know if thy get a big floppy comb for the girls??? Then I have a d'uccle and a beautiful mutt. Here is to hoping some more eggs are owing...my customers are asking for more eggs...and my girls are still olding back in the heat. Darn them

Hi All!

Bl4... Good news that your in-laws can take the ducks! Better news that it looks like you may have a helpful ally!(sp?)

Carol... I doubt there would be one on Free Cycle or the Re Store (there is one in the Milwaukee Area) People don't generally pull them unless they fried. I'll check anyway.

Twiz... Hope you find mom and the kids safe and sound!

Judge.... Personally, I would not poison with other animals around, way too big of a risk. We were discussing here before about rat traps placed in a box so the chickens wouldn't get hurt but would still get rats. Do you have a DH or someone that could do "Rat Patrol"? (Yes, ya' old coots... I watched the show!

)

FT... Hope thing went well for DH!

MLH.... Handsome Boy you got there!

BBP.... Hope you get what got your ducklings... SOON!

As far as working goes,,, the thing about even a "cashiers" job goes.... you can't just sit if no one needs checking out. In most places you are expected to clean and stock. I can't do that anymore.I spent years working nights at gas stations. I worked a factory for over a year (hated it) but they promised no standing when they hired me. Went great for almost a year then they put me on a machine I had to stand at. I was in so much pain I never made rate and they fired me :( wasn't fair but nothing I could do at the time. Allot of stress going on at that time too. Including my 2nd son in Afghanistan 2nd ship in after 9/11....... Anyway... I have applied at a couple of places but...
idunno.gif
I have stuff I want to rummage but since Yong son moved in... I can't get to most of it, nor do I have the garage to hold it in!
barnie.gif
If I could find my wedding band set from my first marriage I would sell that... but I think it was stolen by the gal that was living with us.... and wouldn't stay away after!
somad.gif
In any case, it's NOT where I would have put it! Well, enough of my woes......

The chickens seemed to enjoy the cool down just before the rain! It's still been showering on and off all night and is suppose to most of the day!!!
wee.gif
ya.gif
Bet even the chickens will like that! It's still not going to save us from the damage of the drought, it went too long, but it might at least save something! Maybe if we get enough, there might be at least 1 cutting of hay!

Should be getting an estimate on the pump today.

Night all!

Hadn't really thought of that... maybe because I'm dyslexic, can't spell worth sh!t and my keyboard skills are not good at all.... Jim could probably type faster than me! :/ But keep the ideas coming! (spell check is my friend!)
