Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

good AM,  was up at 5 again..  did lots of reading already..  and some more tractor research.

Cind, there is a better product out at Menard's for fixing leaky tires..  It is called SLIME  or something like that..  I just  took the tire off the rim and poured a small amount into the tire.. then I rotated the tire around to spread it all over inside ..   It takes a lot less of the product if you do it this way.. then you can fix more tires..

before you put the tire back onto the rim, sand the rim a bit to make it smooth,, and then goop up the bead with dish soap and a bit of water to make it slip on easier..

If all else fails.. put a tube in it..

I did not return here last night.. Gramma was difficult.. she wouldn't stand up to go to bed.. so at midnight, I just fully reclined her chair and threw a quilt over her..  she sure can get bull-headed.

Kim, Annie traded days so next weekend she will be home..

Dora didn't want to come in last night..  there were dogs all over the countryside barking..  I guess she just wanted to converse ..

All of the turkeys have shunned the coop lately.. (except Tommy)..  I think it is just too crowded for them..

I want to send a woman the address to join Cheeseheads..  what do I tell her to do to join ?

Just seen your post we musta posted right around the same time, next weekend is fine, that, will give the boys a bit more time on the high protein rations......... gonna add some corn with the sunflowers I think, that and the 22% meat bird should make some good tasting chickens....... along with morning eggs.......hehe might as well spoil them while they are here, I feel bad they won't get to be roosters someday....never knowing a hen, well I guess ya can't miss what ya don't get...... poor boys.

Beautiful pictures ya all I love the fall colors.............wish they stayed longer though like maybe Sept to Dec............ that would be a nice long fall....Kim

I finally found my notes (should have known it was from listening to the Chicken Whisperer~love his show

) and the stuff I was talking about that is not only good for scrapes, minor cuts, abrasions, and a bunch of other stuff (incl. ringworm and rainrot) on all sorts of critters but also encourages regrowth of hair and feathers is called Nu-stock. Not quite as cheap as Blu-kote but I found it @ Foster and Smith for 8.99 for a 12 oz. tube. Cheapest I was able to locate and should be able to avoid shipping by going to their outlet store my next trip to Rhinelander. Can't remember which guest he had on (professor somebody) but said they used it on one of their chooks that had been injured and the feathers grew back fast. Thanks to all those trying to help

Ordering my Valbazen from Firstvet. $31 incl. shipping for 100ml. Cheapest I found with shipping. I know it's not the best deal since I could get 500ml for $50 from Country Store in Antigo (or order online from FF which comes out about the same after adding in s&h) but I only have 4 chooks so it's no bargain if you're throwing it away because it expired before you could use it. The price you pay for living up nort'.

Turned out to be another nice day up here after all even after the wind picked up but getting pretty cold out now. Tomorrow is going to definitely be a day for inside projects, apple pie and pot roast in the oven.

so sorry for all the losses this week, it's so hard especially when you don't know why.

Wow! chicks in the fall? Not up here, they'd be in the house all winter!!!

Putting the light in the coop this weekend, but no heat unless it gets crazy cold (which it's been known to do where we are) otherwise I just have the heated waterer all set to go. Who else lights their coop?

We will start lighting our coop probably towards the end of the month so that we can separate the hens into breed pens and add the roosters and be collecting eggs to set mid Dec. We have our lights on a timer and slowly push the time up till around 15 hours.

If I can find good homes for the 6 golden comets, she is yours, She is my favorite. I am figuring they all go or none of them.
Hopefully I will hear soon and get back to you

for those who missed it, I would like to rehome the ladies for the winter. They are golden comets and are all laying except one that is going through molt. They are a year and 6 months old so have a good year and a half of laying. I really want to get a flock of bantys and silver laced wyandottes and expanding isn't an option in my suburban neighborhood. I live in Wausau
if interested pm me.

Good evening everyone. Went to a friend of mine's place tonight after work...she and her DH are moving to Hawaii! So she had some stuff she wanted to give to me...lots of chicken gizzards and livers! LOL--who but me would drive to get those? I see some gizzards and rice in my future....I also got some pods to plant Moon Flowers. I think I am going to put them where I hope they will grow and leave them out for the winter. I guess they are better at doing that then being planted...since I tried that for lots of years already...maybe better luck letting them plant themselves?
Tommy has been just adorable tonight playing with his treat dispensing toy! I refulled it with woodpecker food and he might have it empty by now! He has become very adept at getting the treats to come out. He learned it so quickly...now I am thinking of other things to teach him! He has been sneezing yesterday and today...I put him on Tylan...not helping so far. I hope it helps! Oh darn...I just sipped the last of my sherry and I didnt share even a tsp with him! (shhhh! he doesnt know) Ha--he is playing another game with his toy! I guess I will get him out and hold him a while.

Evening All....busy day here today with the gardens. Picked a 5 gal pail of cranberry beans. Me and suzie will shuck them in the next day or two. Prolly enough for a gallon jar. We have one gallon done already by cutting the dry ones as they appeared this last month. Worth growing for sure if you like bean soup or ho-made baked beans.

Just back from Camp. The monthly meeting was a good one with a wonderful meal. One of the guys said a couple other folks have spotted the wolf only a 1/2 mile from my house. Guess he hasen't moved on after all.

Did your package arrive today Cind?

Sure can feel a chill in the air tonight.

Nice pics of the pretty leaves...alot came down with the wind today here.

good PM, I took the starter in today.. they can't get at it until about Monday. I figure it needs new windings.. it definitely grounds out.. so much so that it drained the battery down..

David, I could give the red stars a home until they quit laying.. I won't promise that I wouldn't eat them after that..

Brent, what wolf ? I thought you had bobcats..

OK , a couple of games of free cell and then to the showers..
then a Miller and off to bed..

Cind, I sure wish I could have gotten some of your green goop. Sounds divine! I hope you can bring some to the spring bash. Maybe you can sell some?

So terribly sorry to hear about Roadrunner. So sad.

Gina, glad you stopped to say hi. Walmart now carries both Bragg and Heinz ACV with the mother. Sorry about your roo.

Ghost, my BOs are just finishing up their molt and their combs & wattles were pathetically pale. One of them spent days on the roost & would not come down. If she came within reach, I'd get her down & made sure she ate & drank. Otherwise, I made her some eggs & would hold the bowl up by her until she finished it.

Yes, I need my head examined.......... But now they are both back to doing their very important chicken things, as MLH would say.

Giving them a good look over is a good idea, though. I admit I did the exact same thing to mine just to be sure, plus put some electrolytes in one of the waterers. One of my pullets has been sleeping in a nest box too the past few nights. I also have plenty of roost space, but the "older" girls just have to bully the young ones especially at night. The entire day can be completely uneventful, but once bedtime rolls around, it's "are you ready to rumble" time. Sheesh! Crazy birds. Interesting coop idea & very cool looking, but all I see are places for bugs & rodents to hide.

Beautiful pics, Vicki & Amber!

JJ, we had a partial rainbow down here too yesterday between all the clouds.

At least the wolf never came back to your yard, Bigz.

Been a busy day trying to get yard & coop projects done before the cool down tonight. We had a little rain come through, but not too much. I let Stella out for a few hours to mingle with the flock & suprisingly there were no issues. I think they were all afraid of that "super saddle" of Bf4's.

I suppose I'll have to get that back to you along with your cage, AGAIN, hey Bigfam? How do I keep winding up with that thing?????
I got the coop cleaned out yesterday & then spent the rest of the afternoon coughing. Think I might need to get some masks like Unk.

Yikes, that dust was bad. Too darn dry down here this year. My eyes are still itchy. Think I'd better turn in. Sweet dreams, all!

Hi All!

Sorry about your roo Gina.

JJ... I swear chickens are the best thing to lower blood pressure! If I get upset about something.... I go sit in the coop!

Great pics everyone! I'll check out the slime stuff, Thanks!

Cleaned more in the coops today... You would think it's never been cleaned before!
barnie.gif

Made some fire starters tonight.... the kid has to learn you only need ONE and a little kindling!
Lots to to do yet....
Night all!

Jim Sounds like a good plan, I will drop them over the weekend of 13th or 14th or have Ghostrider pick them up when she stops to visit you. Yes don't tell me if you eat them, I am one of those wierd city folks, who think chicken comes from the grocery store, LOL
