Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Morning!!!

Been busy at work; we are preparing for our yearly internal audit so everything has to be in order. I have been doing chemical inventory, checking dates on chemicals, checking if they have labels (carcinogen, toxic, etc...) and checking to see if we have the MSDS on file. Since I am doing that, I am also gutting everything we no longer use. We have one workbench full of chemicals for disposal or to be taken to another branch that can use them. I would hate to see the pricetag of what we are getting rid of......

Had a nice chit-chat with my former pastor last night (he moved out of here to Alaska) he is such a riot! Always has a way of looking at a situation to keep you positive!

Well, looking at the time here and seeing I need to hit the road!

Everyone enjoy the day!

I sent 9 of my roosters to be processed this morning. 1 barnevelder, 1 black penedesenca, 1 mottled lav orp, an Iowa blue mutt, 3 cochins and 2 gold laced orps. I'm sad about it. The worst part is, I have another 10 that need to go.

"It's a blustery day"

freaking wind has been 22-35mph since yesterday am, shouldn't complain since tomorrow there will be a chill factor

closed up all but the vents in the pullet house have to get a cord run for the light, need to get another hour in the old big coop and finish getting birds moved, won't be hard keeping them shut in during the next couple messy days. I hope to get this coop hardwired next,,,,easier for sure with 3 waterers and the divided walls blocking the lights

fairly certain this won't last but then again I have seen totally chitty Oct here

the good news with the colder temps is I also plan to kill a couple deer (Ag tags) and get some meat in the freezer

Most of us have a hard time with that.......... I always feel like a trader, cuz I protected them since birth, stopped the fights cleaned the damage, protected them from the weather, predators, ect. then I chopped their heads off, how awful it is to have to eat........ but I could never become a vegetarian, don't get me wrong I love my veggi's, but I could never live on them, I'm a meat eater....and we have meat with just about every meal around here....LOL and I'm also pretty partial to chicken and eggs....... poor chickens
But I always cry .......... I hate to see a life cut short. Weird part is I'm a hunter and I have hunted alot, never had a hard time shooting or butchering what we were after, I always say a prayer of thanks, but don't cry.......seems it only happens when I raise it..........
Ya should have seen me when we did the pigs.... OMG..... I cut up meat almost all day we had 2 at 250/300 lbs each, I bawled so much my eyes were so swollen I almost couldn't see.......... I never would have guessed, that pigs of all things would be so personable, don't know why I thought they would be easy peasy. I even named them after what I planned to make of them, Bacon and Sausage, I didn't play with them, just to clean their pen and feed them, and they were only here from June to November....... but it was awful, every time we ate them pigs I almost was sick....&. we did indeed eat them, but it left a pretty bitter taste in my mouth for sure.

So anyway Morning every one............chores are done and I'm just paying out all my money to the bill collectors......... House payment, phone electric
, loan, insurance...... everyone now has money but me.............. arggggggggg I hate bill day, and I'm actually late usually I do it on the 3rd Payday for me..... but I was procrastinating, because I hate being broke.........

BigZ you now have a Wolf too?.....man you are inundated with predators up their.......... hope they leave your chickens alone........

One.........Congrats on the egg........sorry about the bee..... I'm allergic to wasps....... I swell up like a melon when 1 gets me...... Hope your doing better today.

So anyway I'm getting my Tattoo finished today, I will post a picture when it's done......... will be so glad to finally see it finished, I have 14 hours in it already, this spring, but no funds kept me from finishing, now I have worked off the money, buy helping Jodi so I can finally see it done. So probably 3 more hours today, gonna have a sore butt from sitting that long....... That is actually the worst part for me, sitting still that long..........LOL ..... so later all..........Kim

good morning, OK you all had your chance,, I have been lurking for about 2 hours.. I guess it must feel better under the quilts.. what are you going to do when it gets cold ??

I don't have anything to write about..

BBP, where do you take your chickens for processing ? how much do they charge ? The last time I took any in it was $1.10/per chicken.. No bagging or freezing.. I heard it is up to about $3.00/bird now..

we have about 32 roosters penned up for the weekend after this.. weather permitting..

All I plan on doing today is maybe adjust the governer linkage .. and at 1 PM I have an eye appointment.. gotta go get an estimate on how much time I have left before I go completely blind..
I will have to get a looooong white cane so I can drive the Oliver..

OMG Jim I hope that doesn't happen, but the picture in mind from this is hilarious........:lau

Yep... Just what we need: Jim driving blind in a tractor in which he can mow people down, and a long white stick to finish them off if the Ollie didn't do it!

Awesome visual Jim!!!

Good visual Jim!

Well I survived making apple pies with almost 80 5 and 6year olds at Kindergarten this morning. Strategically went table to table and stole all the apple cores and peels for my chickens. Luckily the teachers know I have chickens and laughed at me. they get the benefits of chicks in the spring for school so they dont mind too much.

Ok are the baby chicks with mama in the shed coop ok with this chilly weather? they are about 4 weeks old and still so tiny to me. All bantams.
hoping to hook up the two coops tomorrow.... hoping it is not so blustery cold as it is today. this is horrible. i dont do well with the cold. we have soccer at 8:30 tomorrow morning... not thinking that will be very warm either. Second to last game so i will be glad when they are done. ok off to pick up my kids from school soon!

I am back from the eye clinic.. have to go back Nov for a test.. if it is not a good result, I might have to have surgery.. (laser)

when I got home I met Annie and my bro in the yard.. they had just captured 10 baby chicks and their black mama.. I guess she hatched them out in the blackberry patch.. we tossed them all in with the young guineas.. i figure that black Asian cluck can hold her own with those guineas..
the brooder is on, so if she even lays close to it, she should be warm enough with her brood.. 6 black ones and 4 yellow ones.. IDK who the papa is.. there are 34 roosters out there,,,pick one..(prolly all of them)

I just had a call about my pullets.. she wanted to know if I had health papers for them ? I said, no, I don't do that.. she: OK good bye......

I have another guy supposed to come tomorrow AM for 10 pullets.. anybody wanna bet ?? He has called here 4 times..

DrH, Dan, or anyone else who knows.. If I have a 12 V distributor, would it do any harm (or good) to put a resistor before the coil ?

Adam, I found the heavy washer that is supposed to go next to the bearings in the governer..So I am going to take the governer apart and take out that flat washer I used in it's place..

I bought a #2 battery cable today.. that is what the specs call for.. It is about 3 times the diameter of what was on there.. maybe it won't be so hard on the starter, eh ?
