Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Good morning everyone..
Kitty cam is all sleeping kittys
Sounds like tons of venison and processing
I am glad my moulting is done I add calf manna during molt to push it along faster. Not sure it works or not, but I have convinced myself it does.
Have a great day everyone..I am processing 6 week old chicks for Turkey day and a few duck.

After seeing nothing on opening day the guys came to my woods and each got a big doe in about 45min. I told them we should have started here! I was sick so didn't get to go out.... They picked up another doe later in the day to make it 4 so far for gun season. Yipee- can't wait to make sausage.
At what age do chickens molt? None of mine have lost feathers yet?-
Hope you all have a great day- off to paint my sisters kitchen for her birthday.

Morning chicken people! Grey here...I sure wish the sun was out...makes it much easier to greet the day for sure! Nothing much has happened here since last night I guess. Tommy is crowing up a storm here next to me and inside critters are fed. Heading out at 7:45 to do the outside and then off to work. I used to go out and get on the road right about 7:55 but then I run into all the buses and late to school parents on Main Street! I have to drive right by the road to the school to go to this early client and it is kind of a mess around there at 8AM! Told my lady that I would be there at 8:15 instead because of that---then the streets are virtually empty as I head through. We only have one stoplight in town and there are so many people that really dont understand the theory of a 4-way stop sign.

I put the MG cock back out with his "people" yesterday. He had had it with the basement room and the ducklings. It was funny to watch him re-acclimate! The little blueAm bantam (yes I still have him ODrH) and he were doing the sideways shuffle at each other. Hysterical to watch those stilt legs do that! (Gosh I wish Tommy would shut up!)

So today I am visiting with my friend between clients. We used to have coffee about 3 times a week while the kids played...now that they are gone we dont see that much of each other but she is working from home for the whole month (she took a traveling job) and she is bored...guess I am chosen to keep her company! LOL--no problem!

Well, time to head out for chores...have a great day everyone! TerriOfeelingthecrushtomakethatpiecrust!

All my chicks came last spring in March and in May, no one molted last fall, they all have this year except this years chicks and Suzie the BSL, so I'm assuming that they do not molt until there second fall. They did all go through mini molts as they grew last year, replacing baby feathers with adult colors and not as many fluffy ones...... Kim

Morning- cloudy and overcast here so far.

Have to head out shortly and go clean another unit....landlord was going to clean it and then decided that we can.....sigh

DH is trying to make this week a short week for work so that he can hang out with the me and the kids starting Wed- the kids only have 2 days of school this week.

Has anyone used a chocolate fountain before? If so any suggestions, thinking of setting one up for DD's b-day party on Sat.

Have a good one!

good AM, about all java'd up.. gonna work on the trailer again today.. I think I will get it all done..got 3 sections started yesterday.. just one stake pocket to put on and then I have to plane 10 pieces for the side rails.. I could not make the side rails interchangeable.. the tire spacing was not even, front to back.. No biggie, how often do you take the racks off ? I made the rails 14 inches high.. same as a bale of hay.. now when I get a load, at least the bottom layer will be stable.. and I made the inside width 48 inches.. wide enough to haul plywood or drywall..

the trailer holds only 1000 pounds of anything, but it comes in handy for hauling feed and storing it. now with the side rails, I can stretch a tarp over it and use the tie down rings to hold it in place.

OK enough talk,, more action..

Good Mornin, I feel as a bigmouth newbie I shall post now, I have also determined that I have earned it...just read 67 posts...will have to figure out how to keep up (as I have been). those 67 were since saturday nite i think. So glad noone exploded w/that heater thing-love those lil icons for affect. I picked detroit to win that game, although i think they're buncha thugs like virginia tech sports and i 'like' the packers. I try to feed the chickens in different spots, so they'll scratch up the pine forest. Finally figured out why they won't go in the field down near the road for love or scratch (I had a notion). Tookem to the edge again and two HUGE hawks flew in, I think i even said, in chickenese, "dang, lookout!" Then I gathered myself. sorry i made a big deal about the butchering i'd done, was kinda morbid the way i talked it up. All that really happened was, the razor was ineffective due to feathers and inexperience, I calmed them back down and turned them until they got tiredd of trying to see what i was doing and off with the backup machete. If anyone besides me didnt know, you have to cut RIGHT under the jaw, which Snooze went calmly. I cover as a recruiter currently, in uniform and a gov tagged vehicle approximately (squarish diagram) from pepin to humbird to ladysmith to dallas, and a little outside that, as in, if my obligations carry me near any of you ; ) to deliver or give to someone to get it to you, the book I have is called, Fresh ways with beef and lamb, it's a time life book. Maybe a loan as where some play the 'what if i won the lottery' game, I play the 'what if i was a sustinance farmer' game, which often follows the other game close behind. Like, i could put fence here, cut these pines, let hardwoods grow, get small hogs like american guinea X potbelly, yadayada (it's only 2 acres)lol. Just sayin', might EVENTUALLY want to borrow the book back if you still had it and probably not. Wouldn't be a biggie either way. Also, just did a chocolate fountain for my daughter's ninth b'day, I'm sure the wife knows what to do cause it went (and tasted) well, (good). Probably even sell it to you cheap unless she has some big plan to store it forever, used once. I'll get details in case you ask or are interested. Can even coordinate to just grab at my office in EC....just offering and woulld prefer to look at chickens....maybe next time if i'm too new....stilll ask me about the stuff, no problem, Gotta get pics of my flock on here, they're all pure bred, high dollar BYCs, which is just about the only acronym i now on here.....(insert confused icon thingy here andd have a great day)

CC...if you need a broody gal, would be glad to swap her sometime... She is very sweet and gentle, but drives me nuts when she goes broody and wont break it!

Looks to be a gorgeous week. Which is good for a houseful of family on Thanksgiving. Can send the kids to all run with chickens and puppy outside!
Now to get shopping and cleaning and cooking!

Judge, chickens go through their first molt at 18 to 24 months old.

Kristi, thank you so much for the offer to borrow your broody.

Luckily, my Moosettes seem to have inherited their mom's broodiness, and her bad timing. I had 3 go broody at the same time, in late September.

Grey day down here too. I sure hope the sun comes out later. Have a great day, all!

Got one whole egg yesterday...first one in 3 days. Feathers all over the pen and coop. One poor IB gal looks like she went through a chicken plucker, almost, she's all pin feathers and a few scraggly tail feathers. My favorite gal and the two roosters look much better, though, just have a few tail feathers to come it. Poor silkie roo looks punk with his top not all in quills and most of his neck.

Hoping to have some eggs coming soon, want to join the NYD hatch if I can.

Nope, still haven't seen a kitty awake.

Wow, sounds like a big ole buck, glad you found him and the hit wasn't for naught.

Gotta go, they're calling me. Have a great rest-of-day y'all.

Connie
