Just curious, how "robust" are Silkies from TSC or any big hatchery? Any medical nightmare stories, like a larger than normal propensity for, ssy, wry neck or other issues? Or, are they overall healthy and a good buy if breeding/showing are not a concern??

TSC Silkies are more like Chinese Silkies. They are bigger. Some have single combs. Some have an extra toe on only one foot. And some didn't even have feathered legs! I loved my TSC Silkies, but for good Silkies, I wouldn't recommend TSC. Romaine's parents were both TSC Silkies. You could search my YouTube channel for other videos of them. Any Silkie on my channel is either from TSC or is the offspring of two TSC Silkies named Beemer and Basil and were hatched out by a bantam named Lucy.

Awesome insight! So they are larger? I find that interesting, I always thought hatchery chicks ran smaller in adult size. So I'm guessing Chinese Silkies have waaayy more variations in detail? How was your Silkies healthwise?? Were they all broody?

They never went broody. I did all my hatching under a Silver Duckwing Old English Game bantam hen named Lucy. I had gotten three Silkies from TSC, and one of them had some type of health issue. It ended up passing away a little over a week after I got them which made me sad. The other two did well, though. They also looked good until their first winter. The rooster was a little mean and the hen was friendly. I don't know too much about the Chinese Silkie, in fact, I don't know if they're actually called that. It's what I've heard. The Silkies in China are bigger like the ones I had.

Thanks aplenty for the insight, what happened after their first winter?

They are a little funky looking depending on which one. They are all super broody and my rooster is very gentle and never been a jerk to me or my kids. I really have enjoyed my tsc silkies as just good little pet chickens. I would like some better quality maybe just for the looks but I love their personalities.

The broodiness for me is the important thing, this is great to know!! Yours look more crested or puffy than some, thats good to see as well. What hatchery does your TSC use?
