Aw thanks guys
But, sadly, I didn't place at all. Not even in Showmanship
Apparently there was this new judge this year and even after starting the shows at 8:30 this morning, we ended at 7:00 this evening
At our fair, we do Pen of Three Pullets (Standard), Pen of Three Pullets (Bantam), Pen of Three Hens (Standard), Pen of Three Hens (Bantam), Pen of Three Ducks, Pen of Three Ducks (Bantam), Geese, Turkeys, Broilers, Eggs, Pen of Three Fancy Chickens (Standard, 1 male 2 female), and Pen of Three Fancy Chickens (Bantam, " ").
Ugh it took forever! I was in the Fancy Bantams class and that was sooooooooo long. But like an above poster said, I should enjoy the experience and I did
The judge was very nice and the only question he asked me was what is special about a male Sebright
(they're hen-feathered duh
). Other than that he just pointed out their flaws:
need Better/even lacing
Smutt
Curved leader/point on rooster's comb
White in feathers
1/3 bigger than preferred size
Otherwise, the judge said he liked the birds and what he saw.
Now for Showmanship.... I feel a little ashamed since I spend all my time on here and I didn't know the answers to a couple questions. He asked me How many primary feathers were on one wing (I said five, WRONG).. And he also asked me what NPIP stood for. I didn't get that one right, but now I know it stands for National Poultry Improvement Plan (or Program?). I also may have showed him the head the wrong way too. He said you're suppose to keep the bird inbetween yourself and the judge.
Either way.. now I know what to do for next year
Oh and the Grand Champion bird (out of ALL the classes), ended up being some Rhode Island Reds. They looked exhibition quality. I couldn't tell if it was a pen of hens or a roo and two hens.
Thanks for everyone's support!
Losing just makes me want to try harder for next year!
