I am so frustrated with runny poo....
what is a good broad spectrum to put in their water?
It is so hard to give liquid in syringes, defitnely hard to give half a capsule in food....
Safeguard didnt help Valzaben didnt help...Fish zole didnt help
wish all vets had to treat ALL
one member said 1/2 dose of 250mg amoxicillin another Member said 125 per 2.5 lbs...... for a reg size chicken
the dang capsules came in 250mg doses.... just wish it was tablets so much easier to give
where can one obtain Baytril in tablet form?

I would take a couple fecal samples to your vet and have them float it... They'll be able to identify what kind internal parasites, if any, are in your birds... Try and note which sample came from which bird... (may need to isolate for that).

Short of that, you can do a float at home with a kit and a microscope.

Are you seeing anyone hunched or puffed? Lethargy? Not eating or drinking? ... Or just runny poops? How long has this been going on?

Is it getting warmer at all where you are? I know it's only April, but freak heat waves can make chickens drink more water than normal, which can cause runny poops...

Can you post a picture of it?

Edit to add: What method and dosage did you use with the Valbazen?

More edits: I'm not sure Baytril comes in tablet form. I've always seen it as an injectable... Also, treating with antibiotics without knowing what you're treating FOR may harm more than help... Not all antibiotics treat all bacteria. It's best to get a diagnosis from a vet with a fecal or blood test to work out treatment.

as I said over and over . local vets dont wanna be bothered. Plus I dont trust the ones I went to before..... none has a way to culture......
runny poo been going on for long time for Baby Girl off and on. The other for weeks
I just dont want them to suffer. Plus Baby girl is sterile. I am afraid they all will end up sterile

If they don't have a way to culture, how do they do what they do?? I wouldn't trust those vets, either.

What do you mean, she's "sterile?" She doesn't lay egg? Or her eggs don't hatch?

What does her diarrhea look like? Yellow/white? Liquid with white? Bright green?

Runny poo does not mean anything is wrong or they need treatment, it could simply be their diet or the amount of water they are drinking...

Contact a local university and see if they have a poultry extension that can do the test or direct you to someone that can, or contact the local 4H community and see if they can direct you towards a vet that specializes in livestock...

But, again runny poo does not necessarily mean they have a problem...

Most vets will prescribe amoxicillin at about 57 mg per *pound* twice a day. For tablets of Baytyril (enrofloxacin), google "enrofloxacin for fish". Be warned, it's very expensive compared to the liquid. Also remember that it's banned for use in poultry.

like I mentioned before . I called them The state labs(ky anyways) make you go thru A VET....period.Rather than bringing in a ample of poo or a dead chicken.
runny poo all the time esp with undigested food means something Right? eggs geting lighter colred everyday for some. rough eggs for a few now everyday too.....
I argued wth them over the phone. It did no good.....

I tried the egg, applesauce etc to dose a few.....too much work... tried the yogurt.Baby girl is terrible trying to medicate. and TWICE a day?????
now at least three have the constant not formed poo all day and night long....
Baby Girl has been sterile since her few "practice" eggs back in July of 2014... maybe 1/2 dozen odd shaped tiny ones since then....
she lately nests again.... goes thru the motions... but nothing. I have accepted that..... Like I HAVE mentioned over and over she prob has "colustrum perginges"
but I hate to see the rest of them go the same route..
two of the oldest have wheezing problems.. for over a year. one has the runny poo too
so thats why I am so frustrated
No one wants sick chickens.....so cant morally just give them away....
like Hubby and I just talked....
I could have bought pasture eggs cheaper($6 at Krogers) than the thousands spent so far on coops, fencing, worrying, labor of other. Not including our LABOR,,hours on this forum, loss of sleep

I never suggested going through the State on your own, I suggested you contact a your local university that has a poultry extension as I'm sure they have the facilities to test or have labs they work closely with them to do testing, and my other suggestion was to contact your local 4H programs, as they have connections and both are certain to have vets that work closely with them or are on staff...

Egg color getting lighter over sustained laying periods is normal, rough eggs is also not a sign of an illness, sometimes eggs just don't form properly and come out rough...

Thus the reason I suggest you contact a local university poultry extension or your local 4H that can put you in contact with people locally that are willing to help you...

Administering random antibiotics without a diagnosis can be harmful and is not advised... And putting antibiotics in water is not a good way to administer them as you have not way to control the amount they get as you can't control how much they drink...

It's best to give medication as a direct oral dosage or an injection...

yeah,twice a day.... worrying that they fight you so much. they may aspirate...
and adminstering antiobitics which I really dont wanna do, but Im all chickened out. It is no longer enjoyable. cant sleep worried about them.
My Husband hates see me crying because Im at wits end
and if I give them away the next owner would just "cull" a nice word for killing them.... Baby Girl cause she doesnt lay eggs and Goldie cause she missing big span of butt feathers.... others cause they wheeze or whatever. Roo cause... just cause he is a Roo....

they ALSO dont hve signs up telling you about "flystrike" and the countless illnesses.....and the hearbreak...
