Wisteria Vine Toxic?

Hello We have wisteria in the back yard and the girls eat the dried leaves with out any issues at all. If they pick something up and don't like the taste of it they won't eat it and leave it alone. Mine have picked up the green leaves off the wisteria tasted and then like"spit" it out. Funny girls lol...

Same here, we have plants on our property that are listed as toxic but I have never had any problems with my birds (this includes Muscovy ducks) eating them. There are certain plants they like and will savage until the plant is dead and others they seem to know not to bother with.

As others have suggested, I am not even sure if the plants work the same in birds as in humans because wild birds would certainly be more scarce than they are if poisonous plants were a major threat.

Im a nubee I have 13 chickens in a 15x5 chainlink dog kennel they are all girls and one day will
supply my home with "real" eggs...cant wait
I bought them a 6 rollout nest box and they are just now getting the hang of it...
I have a clean water and food system I got them off of ebay they are 4" pvc tubes that house water
and food...the water has chicken nipples and the feeder is enclosed and has a hood covering
for rain...altho the girls scoop out the feed on the ground...they seem to prefer to eat off the ground
I guess its their natural nature instinct to forage for food
I have 6 golden buffs and the others are a mix of I would have to do research to know exactly
who's who...don't have the time
They are 16 and 13wks some chics died during shipping they replaced with the golden buffs
When I cut my grass I give them the cuttings and its gone in 10mins...its so true that they will eat
anything I saw one girl one day eat a feather!!!...they are worse than goats ahahahahahahaaa
I have one that is being pecked and her back is bare so I bought at the tractor supply store a huge
20lb wild game seed flock block hoping that the ones that are pecking her back will take to the block instead
I went online and found a list of animal/chicken poisonous plants and what I have in my yard
that's considered poisonous the girls cant get to anyway
and all my grasses/weeds are safe...they also love the purple flowers of my Mexican poppy plants so do my leopard
tortoises'
I have a question about grit/oystershell...do I need to add it to their feed???
I give them Dumor poultry grower/finisher and I also give them grain scratch and fresh grasses
Oh by the way I live in SWFL and their bedding is sand...I tried the horse jimmy grass and they just
scratch it outside of the pen...my quess looking for bugs...they are so funny when one gets a bug
they make this alarming noise which attracts the other girls and they chase her all over the pen...too funny!!!

I know this is an old feed...but my chickens LOVE wisteria leaves...that's waht i was searching for and found this...but it makes sense wisteria is very antimicrobial...they put this in the AIRBORNE product you see advertised for people who fly to stay well...Chinese have used wisteria for thousands of years as medicine. interesting.....
