Hi all

Wiswei (hello) from Cairns. I joined tonight to reply to a couple of posts I've read. (Can't believe that you can't keep chooks in a city!! That's just weird). I've been into "the fancy" for 30 years in suburban Australia and keep purebreed heavies which I hatch or raise from day olds. I Currently have Australorps, Barnevelders, Welsummers and New Hampshires. They're like the B-52s of the poultry world and lay eggs to match.

My birds range from 6 week old Barnies to a New Hampshire that is 9 years old. She is from an egg-laying line and still pumps out 5 eggs a week unless she 's moulting. They live in a 3m x 3m (10' x 10') deep litter chook shed with an acre to range on. They are locked up each night so that the scrubbies (pythons) don't get them.
