It’s been an eggciting week! Our first chicks, White Jersey Giants, decided to lay way ahead of my anticipations! They’re about 21 weeks old and we couldn’t be more excited
It turns out the first eggs I thought belonged to the both are actually from Snowflake
She is a very dedicated layer and hasn’t missed a day yet. I was soooooo close to seeing her lay on Saturday. Very fussy about fixing the nest just so, moving feathers and bigger shavings in, then out… So far her eggs are pretty small
Fluffy on the other hand is far less consistency and builds up to much bigger eggs, a lovely orange hue. She was also the first to squat for me and has been much more interested in scritches on her bum than Snowflake, as well as bigger comb/wattles

But made it out at just the right moment! I was worried she was going broody because she usually lays earlier and grumbling. Feel around under her and nothing, shift her aside a bit since she buried her last egg under the shavings… As soon as I stepped back, she glared, plopped it right out, and stalked off in a huff. The speckles are amazing!
