And still eat the hen eggs what do you your chickens that is good for the hen and the chick?

If you're just feeding the hen that is raising the chicks it's not an issue b/c she won't be laying for a while. If you're feeding others too it's up to you. Mine eat the medicated starter and I don't have any problems eating the eggs. A very minimal amount gets in the eggs, but it's a decision you have to make. Just make sure you're not allergic to the active ingredient just to be safe.

I make a "cage" from 2 X 4 wire, and put a pan of chick starter so the small ones can eat it but the hens cant.
The chicks cant reach the hanging feeder that the big birds use

My hens that hatched there on eggs stop laying till the she winged/ stopped taking care of her chicks, so I feed her the 22% starter/ grower along with the chicks..

Actually this is fairly important that the momma hen NOT get the medicated starter. So doing this is a good thing.

I try to feed the hen the same thing she always has been eating and keep the chicks form it by using a hanging feeder as stated above.

We only had the 2 adult hens when we added the babies to our flock. Esther was broody, so we just slipped them under. We gave everyone the same thing.... chick starter. The 2 adults were not laying...so not a big deal. It was also medicated. I talked to many people who said it was fine just to not eat any eggs. Since we werent getting any anyway no loss.

Transitioned everyone back to the normal layer pellets at 16-18 weeks and we were fine. Esther just recently started laying again so yay!!!

My hens FLAT OUT REFUSE to eat hen laying pellets. I have no idea what their problem but none of them will have a thing to do with them. It was a drahma because I put it in the feeder in the morning and went to check on it that evening and it was filled to the brim.

I tried mixing it and they picked around it untill the pellets covered the scratch under them! I swear those hens are rediculas and spoiled and picky.

My hens will always choose scratch over pellets that is why it is only given as a treat.

As for the chicks I usually give the hen the chick starter because the set up I have won't allow a hanging feeder in the isolated pen.
