OK i may be a nurse but I am in a Nursing home..so I really dont deal with this much cause I am in long term care not retirement...

but DH is having some symptoms

coughing (non productive)

fever (low grade)

loss of appetite

sweating (really bad)

earlier in the week he was not sleeping up every hour, now today he has slept all day

very low energy

he does NOT have
irritability
restlessness
mood swings
depression
lack of concentration

can I get some feedback from EX smokers, or addiction counselors, IS THERE A DOC IN THE HOUSE?..lol

How much did he usually smoke? For how long? How long has he gone without a smoke so far?

Those sound like normal symptoms but if he is doing very poorly then he should see a doctor.

gee i guess i should have included that info..

smoked 1/2 a pack - a pack a day for 22 years..

last smoke was 5 days ago

It sounds like smoking was a large part of his life so it will undoubtedly be a challenge for him physically and mentally. I'm no expert but there are plenty of websites and toll free numbers that can give him professional support and advice for free.

But I reiterate, his symptoms sound normal but I would contact a doctor if he starts actually getting ill.

Good luck!

I had none of those symptoms when I quit several years ago. But everyone is different. Sounds to me like he has some bug. Good luck.

Doesn't sound like the normal withdrawal symptoms to me, but when i quit i did have some sweating and also, i had a very difficult time sleeping for almost a week...i don't remember any coughing or fever though.

I have been in the process of quitting smoking (down to 4 a day now, from 1 pack a day), and have been suffering from some of the same symptoms.
Insomnia
Coughing
Low energy levels
No fever, but sweating a bit more than normal.

It sounds like how his body is reacting to the lack of nicotine to me.

I was thinkin flu but then i looked online and low and behold its the same symptoms...

when i quit i had nothing but i am one of the lucky few that can drop it with no side affects nothing no cravings (drove DH crazy) i just felt sick every time i was around a smoker just the smell of their clothes would make me ill

and if i lit one i would vomit...so thats my body tellin me it was time and bam cold turkey done...

xtremevermonter,

I am so sorry I thought I was responding to the OP. Certainly meant no offense. Just typed in the wrong name.

I publically apologize. Mea Culpa.
