Wives tale

This method is far more appropriate than picking up a chick by the neck to see what he/she does with his/her feet. (Yes, this method was actually done by a FEED STORE EMPLOYEE) to insure that the customer got all pullets.)

I do believe that this method might possibly pick out some cockerels early in the game. Will it be accurate? Probably not. But, this in combination with continued observation of comb/wattle development, and watching for those tell tale red patches in the case of EE chicks is helpful.

Bottom line in gender determination, can be based on first crow or first egg in some cases.

Sour, you crack me up.

It seems to me that all of the these "wives tale" chick sexing techniques could be tested quite easily by anyone who is hatching sex linked chicks.

Basically because the sex linked chicks have known genders as soon as they hatch due to down color, you could try these methods and prove/disprove them fairly quickly.

But I suspect, these would become busted myths.... to do it right though, there would need to be an explosion at the end... (not suggesting exploding the baby chicks though)
