I really need some advice, my Roo has started sitting in the corner with his head buried in the floor I have picked him up and his eyes are bright and he has strength in his neck but as soon as I put him back down he walked to a corner and put his head into the ground. I have earlier this week had to cull a female who had injured herself and caused brain damage. I'm hoping that the roo has not done the same thing. does anyone know what may be causing him to behave in this way? there is another male in the run and 9 females.
all advice will be gratefully received as really concerned that I am not doing right by my birds if they are hurting themselves to the point of causing brain damage.

Unless you had brain damage diagnosed by a necropsy or saw the injury happen... you may have been wrong. :( Can you describe that since this is too coincidental? Sorry for your loss also.

Are you able to post a video? What is his age? What do you feed including treats and supplements? Were your birds Marek's vaccinated? How much space? Recent weather pattern? Have you ever had a fecal float ran to test for worm or cocci load? Is he able to actually walk? What do his droppings look like?

He is in a pretty bad way, according to his behavior. :barnie

I'd probably take him out of the enclosure and isolate him till he gets better. If he does get better, I'd split the flock in two so the two roos don't have to be together. It might not be the cause of the problem, but two roos in the same enclosure often causes issues.

An up date .... the Roo started walking around okay. However went out last night to check on them and he has gone! Looked everywhere in the run and enclosure but he has disappeared, the chicken coup which is empty as not finished yet had been opened. So thinking that someone has stolen him as he wouldn't have been able to escape! Really upset at the thought that someone has stolen my pet.

That is so sad :( who steals a quail?
Are you able to install padlocks on your enclosure?
