Hello everyone I'm new to this website. I need some advice.
I have a 1 year old hen who's suddenly off colour.
Shes very unsteady on her legs and can't balance properly. She can walk and isn't limping. She's eating and drinking fine. Her poos look healthy. She's also gaping for air and looks depressed.
I've bought some layers pellets with some wormer in just incase its gape worm. Has anyone else have any idea what this could be?

Hi,

Has she laid an egg recently? Since this came on suddenly I'm wondering if there could be an egg stuck further up in her system. How does her abdomen feel? I'm just wondering if there could be a pressure build up somewhere.

Do you have any Nutridrench? If so I would give her some. If she's eating drinking and pooping OK I wouldn't think it would be an electrolyte imbalance or vitamin deficiency but that wouldn't hurt to give her a boost.

This isn't something I have dealt with but if I at all thought it could be an egg issue I would give her some calcium. It can't cause any harm to try it.

Hi, I dont think she has laid in the last couple of days although she is with other hens which are laying so it's hard to say for definite. I will check her over again. She has a full crop so I'm guessing that's good.

As long as the crop feels normal it's good. Check it first thing in the morning to make sure it is emptying overnight. If her poop is normal it probably is.
