Hi! Thank you! We have been putting D.E. in our chickens food and water. It kills off mites and bugs. Razzle Dazzle is doing better today. She was lying down earlier with her buddies. She drinks and eats sometimes.

You're welcome. Adding DE to food and water? DE is formulated in feed at a very low percentage from some feed mills. Adding DE powder to feed would only irritate the respiratory system and DE won't do anything in water.

Too many would have to be fed which won't ensure the bird is getting the balance of nutrients. A few I use are Avian Super Pack, Vitamins-Electrolytes "Plus" dispersible powders for water treatment. I also use Probios dispersible powder in the water. What doesn't support the balance in feeds should be supplemented in water. Old time advice, old time success.

What dose per gallon? Do you use all the time or just when something's wrong? Does it matter if the containers plastic or metal? Thanks.

The dosage directions are on the container. I use Probios, vitamins-electrolytes 2-3 times a week all year long. I use Little Giant 3 gallon plastic waterers.

Yup. The dosage is according to body weight. Since I use it regularly, I don't need to use more than 1/2 tsp per gallon. It's important to clean out waterers everyday, especially with supplements like I mentioned. You likely know, but I just say it in case a new person observing. Keep those waterers out of the sun. I'm fussy about it, but that fussiness leads to chickens I don't have to treat for diseases.
