I suspect this is going to get heated... but I'd really like to know.

I am writing several research papers right now, two of which deal with women in the military. After having read more research papers than I care to recall, on either side of the issue, I'd like to know what average people think, and what reasons people base their opinion on. This discussion is for my own personal interest, not research. I am just trying to get a feel for how people feel about the issue, and what personal reasons they have that I may not have considered.

Do you think women should be able to serve in the military? Why or why not?

I don't have a problem with women in the Military but I have a problem with women being in combat. I think it is not only acceptable but needed in support and Intelligence units, etc.

Several reasons.

1. I was raised that a man is supposed to protect women and children. Not being chauvinistic, just don't like the thought of women being in the line of fire. It makes me cringe.

2. Distraction. Most Military is male, men and women together in close quarters..... I think most guys might have something on the brain besides doing the job they need to do. A distraction can mean a death.

3. The uniforms are very unflattering to the female body.

I'm of both minds here, I agree with MFB 100% on combat roles yet..................................

There are exceptions to every rule, but using a broad generality (please don't hate me) but guys have 50-70% more strength, endurance and less emotions to get all conflicted about.. (not saying many never get conflicted, trust me, they do) .. Now My big sis Danielle just got back from her 3rd tour in the sand box. She's an apache mechanic and runs the machine gun hanging out the door as they fly around. Her bird, she will protect it. Does her apache jump into the middle of the fire on purpose? Naw, she is more of a support person, but if pressed, can run a belt fed machine gun with the best of them. She made sure she could physically do the job, and absolutely no special considerations were needed nor given because she is a woman.

If she can do the job, let her.. If she can't keep up with the rest of the crew physically, then get a support role and serve in the capacity you can. As far as mixing boys n girls, well nature happens.. But most professional solders are well...... professional.

I belive everyone deserves the right to prove themself, the only down side to woman in the military is the number of woman getting assaulted by our own military men.

I hadn't heard about that, but I can imagine the problems. If found out, the military is very quick to boot predators of any sex.

I don't think women have anything they need to prove..and really need to be at home picking up what the men cannot do while they are doing their military duty.

Not all military women are married.

+ ........ Not all military women are wanting to marry..
