women working "MEN" jobs

I get paid as a part-time Legal Assistant to a corporate attorney, but AT HOME, I just finished painting the entire exterior of our house. I'm really proud of myself for doing this, since this is mostly a "man's" job. I know there are women out there who do it, but not many!

I have been a Police Officer for over 27 years. When I started I was one of only 5 women working with over 100 men and we really had to "prove" ourselves worthy! Didn't help that I was only 5'2" and 108 lbs. back then. I was also the first woman to get married and have a child. I am now getting ready to retire the first week in January (81 days - but who's counting!).

back in '72 I hired on at the phone co. as a 411 operator. The money was less than I wanted so I transferred outside as a lineman. Only the second girl in the field at the time and the men didn't really know what to make of it. retired 5 years now and my husband has 3 women on his crew!

I've worked in a shipping dept, hard work but I loved it. The men complained I worked too hard, bunch of slackers lol.
I have also worked as a private investigator & my boss was a woman. We would have P.I. workshops & very few women there.

My DH and I work together, he's a CPA and I'm the office manager/bookkeeper.

But at home, I'm the "handyman". I built my greenhouse, and put the chicken coop together, I do the yardwork, I fix things around the house (small things, but still

) He does the tech stuff, computers, TV with all the goodies attached etc.

I used to work as a computer programmer.

When I was in school, I would say that it was about 60-40 in favor of men, but enough woman for me to think that everyone (at least in CS) finally got over the dunderheaded double standard, and I wouldn't have any problem with the "Good Ol' Boys Club" mentality.

Boy, was I wrong! I worked as a programming consultant, so I didn't stay in one place too long (thank God), but in all the places I worked, there was only one other woman programmer, and the double standard was there loud and clear (paid less than the men for the same experience/job, kept out of the loop on important job details, etc.).

After I left my last consulting job, I found out later they had replaced me with two men, and paid EACH of them double of what I was making!!!!!!!!!!!!

If we continue to classify jobs as Men's work and Women's work, we keep the outdated beliefs alive. It's 2007 and we all know that gender or sex has little to do with capabilities. Come on, no one would say that only men can be doctors or only women can cook, right? Work is work.
I sell chemicals.

I'm a mechanical engineer at a nuclear power plant. There were maybe 3 other women in my classes and the same goes for my jobs. The job is easy and logical but men usually think they are the only ones capable of doing it, which is crazy and wrong.

I married an electrical engineer so we have lots in common. At home we tackly fixing things equally. I'm in charge of the trash and recycling. I am very much a planner when it comes to choosing the best thing to buy. We cook and clean about the same.

Chickenbutt-
My DB is a mechanical engineer like myself... it really comes in handy having another engineer around when I'm explaining something that other fields would never see!
