Not sure if this is the right place to put this but wanted to let everyone in Sydney Australia know that there is a totally WONDERFUL vet at Pittwater Animal Hospital called Bryn who just saved my chickens (sooty) lifeI
I noticed the other day that she was all puffed up and she wasn’t as keen on her food as usual – she is the head hen so normally first in.
I took her to the vet and he said her crop was all full up as she wasn’t digesting properly, she had an x-ray which showed an obstruction and also that she had worms – I had wormed them with the worming stuff in the water but won’t be doing that again. He gave her a paraffin drench and wormed her and home she came...along with me armed with worming fluid for ALL the girls!
Three days of intensive care, crop massaging, phone calls to and from the vet and she went back today. She had a second paraffin drench and is currently back outside with the others being her usual self. We aren’t entirely sure about the obstruction but she is digesting and pooping – I am now an expert on chicken poop!
She has to eat layer mash for a week but then he thinks she may be back to normal. We aren’t sure if she has eaten shards from the dogs bones or parts of hoof trimmings or what but I am so pleased he saved her.
He was entirely wonderful. And didn’t charge the earth either.
