How do you sex mixed chicks? Can you tell by there wing shape? If so what do they look like girls verses boys?

You look at the same factors you do for most breeds.

1. Comb
2. Wattles
3. Feathers

Wing shape is not an indicator for gender.

It looks to only be about 3-4 weeks old which is to young to say for sure. I’m thinking boy though. Update at 6 weeks

Boys have bigger combs and wattles compared to females. Boys also have saddle and hackle feathers.

That bird is too old to be wing sexable.

When I got the brown egg layers assortment I first worried about figuring out the breed since that would have a bearing on sexing them.

But since they all ended up being single-combed breeds I just watched for those male combs to pop up -- getting lucky in that all my boys were clearly identifiable at 3 weeks (plus one ambiguous Blue Rock who was tagged for watching at that age but was clearly female at 6 weeks).

You’ll likely have some hens, especially out of 17. Thing is, if they all end up being boys there isn’t much you can do about it. They are to young to say at this point and a lot can change in 2-3 weeks.
